. NARRATIVE

1969 w a s marked as a year of change for CARAEMRON ONE TWO ONE. Rumors

were propagated that the squadron would move from SP-2 t o LP-13 at Naval

Air Station Norfolk, during the s m e r and the question arose of moving the

entire squadron from i t s hme base in Norfolk t o Naval Air Station Quonset --

Point. A l l situations were in a s ta te of flux and a l l personnel listened

eagerly for the la tes t scuttlebutt.

January was characterized by post-deployment leaves for detachment

personnel. L i t t l e f l ight operations were conducted and maintenance utilized

this time for completion of corrosion inspections and for mrrecting out-

standing discrepancies.

On January 1 2 , Detachment EIG3EEN flew two ai rcraf t t o Marine Corps

Air Station Beaufod t o p&icipate i n a FIREX. The E-1B's primary mission

i n the exercise was range sanitation and possible SAR coordination. On 17

January, the a i rcraf t returned t o Naval Air Station Norfolk having achieved

one hundred per cent availability during the exercise.

Detachment THIF?Y-EIWI' flew down t o Mayport, Florida, in preparation

for deployment t o the Mediterranean. After completion of load-aboard, USS
