A concept of the online summer school
“RUSSIA – FAR EAST” 2020
Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Vladivostok, Russia
Russia - Far East Online Summer School offers international students several course modules each lasting 3 weeks of intensive training. The School is multi-modular, which means that each participating student can choose from a variety of course modules. As compared to the Russia - Far East Summer School held in previous years, the Summer School of 2020 greatly expands the range of academic modules offered to the international students.
The program is represented by intensive course and designed for students any level of studies and any degree usually from Europe and East Asia. Last year the school gathered 60 peoples from 8 countries (both from Europe and Asia regions). As a result, participants improve their language skills and receive practical skills in the selected educational program.
Target group: Undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, and non-matriculated students: all students who are interested in studying Russian
Language of instruction: English/Russian
ECTS: 4.0 credits, including:
Participation fee: 25,000 RUB
Featuring:
• A lot of Russian Language • Lectures & Practice classes • Optional modules • Comfortable online platform
The main course of the program is Russian Language and Culture.
ECTS: 2.0 credits
The course considers being taught in accordance with participants' language skills, so participants beneficially study Russian at the appropriate level. The special course is compiled for each level, which allows participants to learn the necessary knowledge from the basic rules of the language to the complex vocabulary with practical training. As a result, every participant gets the Russian level certificate by postal mail.
By competitive selection, the best teachers of Russian as a foreign language from FEFU are invited to work at the RFE. Among the main requirements for teachers: experience with foreign students; experience of staying abroad (in order to better understand how it is to learn a foreign language abroad); the diversity of the course; experience in summer schools for foreigners (including previous RFE); youth and cheerfulness. When preparing the course, teachers consider the specifics of the native culture of RFE students in order not only to teach the language, but also to give an idea of the history, culture, life and traditions of Russia. The Russian Language and Culture course includes: study of rules, grammar and vocabulary; phonetics; watching films and videos in Russian; listening (and even singing) songs and records; study of Russian history, culture and art.
Classical methods help to teach academic Russian in accordance with the requirements of the TOERFL exam. Interactive methods help participants immerse into the world of everyday Russian. For example, watching classic films and listening to popular music in Russian. Thus, participants are included in the process of listening to authentic speech, which is filled with colloquial constructions and dialects. During the training, teachers strive to develop a conversational skill among the RFE participants, and it is their familiarity with audio and video materials that contribute to this. It would be useful to write out phraseological units and even Russian jokes that are often used by Russians in conversation, this will allow a foreigner to “read” the connotation of phrases, to recognize them.
The requirement "youth and cheerfulness" applies to teachers for a reason. Teachers should make the classes as fun as possible. Usually, participants in the RFE Summer School are sociable and active people from all over the world, so games help a lot. Teachers come up with various quests in which students need to apply Russian language skills. Undoubtedly, students will learn a lot about the Russian language and Russian traditions, thanks to these games
Participants can choose an additional module to increase their knowledge about Russia:
