A FAMILY CAMP

Meet The Bertino’s

Accreditation

Why Nabby?

We’re proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association. ACA Accreditation is the best evidence parents have of a camp’s commitment to a safe and nurturing environment for their children. ACA Accreditation means that your child’s camp cares enough to undergo regular reviews of its operation.

Camp Nabby is an 8-week summer day camp designed by professional educators. This means we do everything in our power to create a fun, positive and encouraging environment for the families of northern Westchester. To sum up our summer programs we created a mission statement: we exist to educate and inspire young people and their families to choose healthy, play-filled lives.

Our philosophy is simple:it’s all about the kids!

Education

We believe that teaching and learning should bring joy.

Fitness

We believe that physical activity is the key to a happy, healthy life.

Laughter

We believe that some things, most things, are funny.

Play

We believe that creative, flexible play is overlooked and underrated.

We stand firmly behind our mission because we believe in the long-term benefits of our program. We believe in creating diverse summer experiences that translate into lessons that last. And we believe that the stories that begin at camp, have the power to influence decisions for years to come.

Values & Beliefs

In 1970, Frank and Flo Bertino became the second owners of what was then called Nabby Day Camp—attribute to founder Abraham Nabatoff. In 1997 the family torch was passed to Joe Bertino, Frank and Flo’s son, to run the day-to-day operations of Camp Nabby.

Joe, a retired physical education teacher and swim coach of 35 years, has been dedicated to Camp Nabby ever since. While Joe manages the facilities and staffing, his wife Rita oversees the enrollment and transportation and their son, Matt, helps both of them as an assistant director. In true family tradition, they are joined every summer by sisters Gemma and Maddieand brother-in-law Dave.

The facilities at Camp Nabby are second to none. Spread across 17 acres, we take pride in making the most of our surroundings and providing the very best for our campers. In addition, we look to add something new every camp season to keep things fresh and exciting.

STAFF

Counselors & Specialists

FACILITIES

Pools, Courts, Fields & More!

Our staff is led by two program directors—one for the junior campers, 3-8 yr olds, and one for seniorcampers, 8-13 yr olds. Under their supervision, each individual camper group is led by a head counselor and a combination of assistant counselors and CITs. In addition we have staff in charge of specialty activities, sports, health, maintenance and dining. In all, there are 110 staff members responsible for making Nabby a special place for our campers. We realize the importance a great staff makes, and we take great pride in hiring the best possible candidates.t

Scaled Sports

An important feature of Nabby is our scaled to size athletic facilities. These facilities enhance the success of campers’ skills with more hands on participation while creating the ‘real’ feel of the game.

JUNIOR CAMP

Kindergarten - 3rd GradeOur Junior Camp Program is designed to keep your child active, stimulated, and safe. Children ages 4 1/2 - 8 1/2 learn about sport skills, form new friendships, and get exposure to a variety of activities. To balance sports and games, our structured weekly schedules include special activities (gymnastics, music, arts and crafts and nature) all taught in covered indoor facilities. Appropriate personal living skills and social interactions will be developed over our eight-week summer, and parents should see growth in their child’s confidence and self-esteem.

Free Play

It is our belief that every child needs

some time to engage in a few less

structured activities, including imagi-

nation playground, spray and play (our

mini water park), or just some time on

the playground.

We became part of the Nabby Family 7 years ago and haven’t looked back. While other families look forward to vacation, we look forward to Camp! Eight weeks of fun in the sun, playing, learning and growing. It’s a special time and delivers so many lifelong memories and benefits that I can’t even begin to list them all in a short review. Thank you, Joe, Rita and the rest of the staff for making our summers as good as they possibly could be!!! // R.S.

SENIOR CAMP

4th - 8th GradeSenior Camp is a more active, elective day than what is offered in our structured Junior Camp program. The morning is more athletic, with no specials (i.e. Nature, Arts & Crafts, Music). Tennis instruction is also scheduled for each group every morning. Each afternoon campers can choose their own program, including all specials, during interest periods.

Every week Senior Campers, ages 8 1/2 - 13, have the opportunity to choose their afternoon activities. They may select a sport or activity for two separate 45-minute periods every afternoon. Senior Campers can challenge themselves to learn a new sport or devote more time to their favorite activity. Interests include all camp specials, team sports, or individual contests such as archery, gymnastics or tennis. These activities are co-ed and are directed by our Senior Camp staff. Also available is a 90-minute period for campers who want to specialize in a more team-oriented sport (i.e basketball, baseball, lacrosse).

Every Wenesday afternoon features a special event involving the entire co-ed Senior Camp. Relay races, Capture the Flag, Predator and Prey, and the ever popular Apache Relay, are just a few of our mid-week traditions. There is much excitement and anticipation in striving for these coveted championships—and a place in Camp Nabby history!

Interest Period

Epic Events

Hands Down, the very best summer experience for your child. Swimming, dodgeball, baseball, soccer, archery, zip line, rock wall and so much more. Excellent, experienced staff and beautiful setting. My sons both attended Nabby for many years, then both worked there as counselors. This will be my tenth summer as a counselor myself. Just can’t get enough. // L.Z.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS & SCHEDULESThe Cubhouse

All camp groups follow a daily schedule. Most activities are structured in 30-minute intervals. Each group has two swim periods, various ball field activities, and specialized instruction time. Our Junior Campers have more special instruction time than our older campers. Our Senior Campers have a more athletic schedule with tennis added daily and interest periods of their choice in the afternoon. Every group has a period reserved for snack, lunch, and some unstructured free time for improvised activity.

Rainy days are often looked forward to at Camp Nabby. Having 11 separate covered areas, our campers and staff are provided a different, yet still active schedule. A one-hour movie time is balanced with a variety of activities such as dodgeball, mini-golf, hockey, gymnastics and basketball—all conducted under covered areas. Campers stay on campus all day and are kept busy and active. Although it’s possible to get wet while moving from one building to another, we all know this is camp, and it’s just water!

Schedules

Rainy Days

A co-ed program composed of children 31/2 - 41/2 years of age with a specialized schedule specifically designed for the social benefits of the pre-school child. Our qualified staff includes a certified teacher and offers a 4:1 camper to staff ratio. Children swim twice daily in a shallow, child-friendly heated pool where they can feel secure being in the water. The activities for this age group include our specials—Nature, Music, Arts & Crafts, Gymnastics—taught by our specialty counselors in covered, indoor facilities. Our other activities, including team sports, are all conducted on our fields and courts scaled for age appropriateness. Many of our activities are covered to shelter the campers from overexposure to sun and rain. We provide young children an opportunity to participate in the fun and excitement of the camp experience while promoting their social skills and self-confidence under the supervision of our mature staff.

Both our LIT (14-yr-old) and CIT (15-yr-old) programs are limited in number and open to new applicants. Applications and fees for these programs can be found by registering online.

In-Training Programs (LITs & CITs)

I can’t say enough about what Camp Nabby has given to my children. My kids countdown the days every school year. They live for this Camp and have made wonderful friendships. They have learned so much. As my kids say “Camp Nabby is a magical place”. The last day of camp is always a tearful one. Can’t wait for another summer filled with fun and memories for my kids!!// Y.S.
