A note for VoIP set up
» Quality of Service (QOS)! – Most all of the “approved” SIP trunk providers use an interface device to
improve the QOS and performance of Voice Traffic over the broadband connection.
For Example; EdgeMarc device or Packet 8 equivalent.
» If you choice “Other” and go with your own SIP Trunk provider consider that Response Point uses standard protocols and setup. At a minimum, your service provider must support: – SIP signaling – G.711 audio encoding – Session border controller or application level gateway for NAT traversal – Registration using the SIP REGISTER method.

Packet8 Business VoIP Service – RPA - Description
– The Packet8 solution uniquely overcomes the NAT traversal problem by providing an inexpensive supplementary hardware device, the Packet8 Microsoft Response Point Adapter (RPA), that works in conjunction with Microsoft Response Point hardware to connect seamlessly to the Packet8 service from behind any NAT/firewall architecture. The Packet8 RPA functions as a SIP Back-to-Back User Agent (B2BUA) on the service provider side, registering and communicating with the Packet8 service. On the client side, the Packet8 RPA acts as a SIP proxy and SIP registrar to the Microsoft Response Point PBX.
– In essence, the Packet8 Microsoft Response Point Adapter acts as a proxy to the Packet8 service, while also performing any NAT traversal functions for both SIP and media traffic on behalf of the customer’s Microsoft Response Point phone system network. These NAT traversal functions include: sending frequent keep-alive packets to keep NAT port bindings open to the Packet8 ITSP; inclusion of appropriate SIP headers and parameters for SIP signaling through a NAT; performing STUN and/or TURN allocation requests for media ports; and modification of the appropriate Session Description Protocol (SDP) address parameters to advertise publicly addressable ports for media.

XML - Extensible Markup Language
» IP phones are a powerful tool that has been under utilized in the past 10 years.
» Now that IP Phones function like PBX/Key System phones it’s time to take advantage of that engine under the hood.
» The Power of an IP Phone is realized using Aastra XML API– The XML API interacts with the telephone via External or Internal
Web applications.– Reseller can develop their own Vertical Applications– Carriers can develop services to sell to their base

XML Examples
» Media: browser built into every telephone.– Any Web Site with an RSS or XML feed can be tapped.
» Other applications (this is more strategic!!)– Amber alert “instantly” to all phones.– Hot Desking, log in – log out without affecting the PBX or Carrier.– Professional office (Law Firm) Account Billing System– Back End Billing System access via XML Script on the phone.– Corporate Directory at the user finger tips (no PC required)– Low Touch IP phone deployment. Drop ship phones to site!
