IBM Upward Integration License Installer The License Installer allows users to perform the license registration process on manageme

The License Installer comes with a command-line Windows utility that performs the primary licensing functions after installed, which are:

Cluster Overview

Collects and analyzes cluster inventory information and health status to assist with the operation and management of the hosts and the cluster

Provides a snapshot view of the cluster including the total number of IBM hosts and non-IBM hosts, overall health status of the IBM hosts, resource usage of disk, memory, cpu etc.

Rolling System Update

Non-disruptive system update which automate vMotion driven host evacuationprior to installing the update to avoid workload downtime:

1. Put the system in maintenance mode and evacuate all VMs to other available hosts in the cluster via vMotion

2. Update firmware and restart to take effect

3. Take the host out of maintenance mode to accept VMs

4. Process is repeated for the next system until all systems have been updated.

Rolling System Update – Task manager Task manager helps you manage rolling update tasks. A task contains all of the information and options for a rolling update. To access Task manager, select a vmware cluster, and navigate to rolling update page by Manage -> IBM Upward

Integration ->Rolling Updates, then click Task Manager in the left menu list;

– All the hosts in current cluster display on the left and are organized by machine type – Available and installed firmware versions for each machine type and host are listed on the right– Select a host to view available firmware from the right and choose the updates you want to apply– If a machine type is selected, the selection of firmware is applied to all the hosts that have this machine type



Rolling System Update – Create task Step2 : Select update options

– Update Parallelization specifies the number of hosts that can be updated concurrently. The default is 1.

– Reboot after update specifies whether to reboot the host after updates are applied

– Force downgrade specifies whether to update firmware if the installed version is newer than the one you selected.

– Schedule specifies when to initiate the task.

The Advanced System Settings provides the ability to view and change the current system settings on the host : Monitor the power consumption, thermal, and fan speed and show trending information

Power capping sets the upper limit of power consumption

Power throttling allows you to receive warning or critical alerts when power consumption exceeds the values you set

Predictive Failures

IBM Upward Integration for VMware vSphere allows you to set management policies against the server based on a hardware predictive failure alert. It evacuates VMs from the server or notifies you based on defined policy when predictive failures detected.

The Policy and Rules page allows you to add, edit, and delete a rule which defines the conditions and corresponding actions being executed on the target server.

The Predictive Failures page allows you view predictive failure alerts from the server and the triggered policy history.

You could select one or more conditions to form your rule, and each rule can only have one action: migration or notify.



Predictive Failures – Policy and Rules

You can define one or more rules for the managed esxi host



Predictive Failures – Event log and Action History All Predictive failure events comes from the endpoint are listed in the Event log table.

When the conditions of a rule are met, the defined action of the rule is launched on the managed endpoint. All of the triggered rules and action results are listed in the Action History table.

Note: Migrate action Status displays as “Success” or Failed. A Notify action record has no status information, this record just indicts this action was successfully trigged.

Configuration – View Boot Order The values of boot order settings are displayed based on the last refresh. The last update date and time is displayed above the left column. The left column shows the optional device, and the right column shows the current boot order.



Configuration – Refresh Boot Order Click Refresh button to get latest setting value for this section. Refresh button turns to Cancel when refreshing. If it is clicked, refreshing stops and nothing

is going to change.



Configuration – Change Boot Order To change the order, you can move a boot order option up or down and between the two columns, by

clicking the corresponding buttons. Click Save to apply your change. A failed icon is displayed to the right of Refresh button if failed or

nothing if succeed.



Configuration – View IMM Settings Click a link(e.g. IMM Port Assignments) in the left pane. The values of the settings are displayed based on the last refresh. The last update date and time is

displayed to the right of Refresh button.

disabled. If Cancel is clicked during refreshing, refreshing stops and nothing is going to be changed.

version. If your host does not support a setting, it would be disabled to indicate this setting is currently not

UIM for Microsoft SCOM Premium features

IBM Upward Integration for Microsoft System Center has several premium features that require an activation license. The following additional features are fee-based and require the purchase of an activation license on a per managed endpoint basis. Activation licenses can be purchased by contacting either your IBM representative or an IBM Business Partner. These features offer the ability to:

Establish Out of band - In-band (OOB-IB) communication using reflection to synchronize the information obtained out of band (using SNMP) and in-band (using OS).Launch a Flex System Chassis CMM Web Console from the Operations Manager Console.Discover a Flex System Manager (FSM) device and launch an FSM Console in the Operations Manager Console.Monitor Flex System Chassis and Chassis modules using both SNMP v1 and v3.

*This feature requires installing the 4.0 license tool; the activation version is 255.0.Launch a Windows IMM Web Console server from the Operations Manager console. *This feature requires installing the 4.0 license tool; the activation version is 255.0.Utilize Active Power Management and Monitoring on uEFI and IMM System x servers and blades running Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 with IBM Director Platform Agent v6.2.1 or later. You can monitor and manage overall system power usage and generate alerts when power consumption rises above predefined consumption thresholds.Customize and set power consumption thresholds for Power Monitoring alerts.

Set and enable power capping thresholds that manage maximum power consumption wattage.

Monitor the power data of client System x systems by viewing the System X Power Data Chart.

Reflect the health of BladeCenter x86/x64 modules to the BladeCenter x86/x64 blade servers affected by those modules. BladeCenter and Blade hardware health correlation and event propagation provides BladeCenter specific hardware health condition monitoring under the Windows health explorer view.

Enable the Hardware Management Software Configuration Advisor for IBM Systems (SW Configuration Advisor) program, which analyzes software dependencies of the IBM Hardware Management Pack on a managed Microsoft Windows system. The program is run from the Operations Manager management server. SW Configuration Advisor detects the presence of the IBM Hardware Management Pack software dependencies, and makes appropriate configuration recommendations.

Ability to remotely power on and off blade servers using the Operations Manager console. Discover the Integrated Management Module (IMM), and correlate it with the host. Set the predictive failure alert (PFA) policy to IMM for Brickman base Systems.

Note: All of the features listed above are available when the licensed feature level is at least 3.0, unless version 5.0 is noted for a particular licensed feature level.

Export IBM System configuration data to a IBM Configuration Pack:

The IBM Configuration Pack contains configuration items and Setting Collections in a .cab file and up to DCM standards. This IBM Configuration Pack can be imported into the DCM server.

Export IBM System configuration data to a configuration description:

The configuration description is an XML file that describes the configuration data. You can share and edit configuration data: you can export IBM configuration data to a configuration description, or a configuration description can be imported into the IBM Configuration Pack Editor.

Import IBM System configuration description:

You can import a configuration description file, which can contain one or more IBM configuration items and Setting Collections.
