This Sunday May 8, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Second Palm Sunday. This holiday is named after the Palm Sunday and the church service is similar and the same hymns are read. On Palm Sunday we celebrate Christ's triumphant entry into Jeruswelcomed Him with palms, olive branches and cries of Hosanna. On Second Palm Sunday we celebrate Ascended Christ's triumphant entry into heavenly Jerusalem, where He is greeted with praise and delight by angels. Specific only to the ArmenSunday was established by marvelous event from the history of our church

According to tradition, during St. Gregory the Illuminator’s imprisonment in the pit, every day he was visited by the same angel. However one day, the angel did not come. The following morning, St. Gregory asked him about the reason for his absence. The angel responded, that during His Ascension, Christ had passed through the 9 ranks of the Angels, and they celebrate that feast every year. The angel visiting St. Gregory was from the fourth rank of angelic hosts, therefore, his rank of angels commemorates and celebrates Christ’s Ascension to heaven on the fourth day following the Ascension.

The Second Palm Sunday falls on the fourth day following the Ascension of our Lord, has a 35 days movability and meets from May 3 to June 6.
