Ensuring Both Coverage and Connectivity of a Wireless Sensor Network
• Study the coverage and connectivity issue from different angle– Do not rely on the assumption
RC 2RS– The previous results can be
regarded as special cases of what we proposed
– More general decentralized solutions
• Distributed protocols for – Determining the levels of
coverage and connectivity – Achieve the expected levels of
coverage and connectivity– Prolong the network lifetime

sensors’ communication
ranges are no less than
twice their sensing ranges

Our work is the first work allowing
an arbitrary relationship between
sensing ranges and communication
distances of sensor nodes.
We develop decentralized
solutions for determining, or even
adjusting, the levels of coverage
and connectivity of a given network.
Emergency Guiding
and Monitoring
Applications in Indoor
2D & 3D Environments
Finding a navigation path from each sensor to the exit without passing any obstacles (Daniela Rus, Dartmouth College)
Our protocol incurs lower latency and
costs less message overheads
Our design allows multiple exits and
multiple emergency events in the sensing
field.
The structures of 3D buildings are taken
into account in our design.

Schemes for Object
Tracking Sensor
networks
A tree-based location management scheme was proposed by H. T. Kung and D. Vlah (WCNC 2003). Some issues are not taken into consideration.
We propose a location management
scheme for object tracking sensor
networks which takes the physical
structure of the sensor network into
consideration.
Compared to earlier work, we also
consider the query cost.
We also propose a location
management for multi-sink sensor
network in which a user can issue the
query from anywhere.
