ورشة عمل أساليب تعليم وتعلم موهوبين
1
1- Identifying gifted child is the most difficult part of the job
2- Out of level testing: do a test that is hard enough so smart students will do well while not-enough smart students wont
3- Giftedness is natural curiosity
2
4- Giftedness beyond what you do, it is the way you think
5- Talent in every one but how to discover6- Gifted children usually get least
attention because people assume they will do better no matter what we do with them. However everyone needs encouragement and help to make the most of their abilities and succeed in life
3
7- Children are interested in one topic after 2 weeks they are interested in another, after 2 weeks they are interested in a different one. They change their interest very quickly, but what you like when you were 4 years old and you still like it when you are 6 and 8 and so on is what you are gifted in.
4
8- Giftedness differ from intelligence: everybody have intelligence in one area (Mathematical, social, linguistic, etc) but this does not mean they are gifted in the same area
9- (Giftedness is a greater awareness , a greater sensitivity, and a greater ability to understand and transform perception into intellectual and emotional experience) Annemarie Roeper
5
Just if the child is capable this does not mean that the program is fit him, some students are very good at doing exams but they have no curiosity to learn more. by putting them in these programs they become board and other students are affected by them (achievement differ from giftedness)
6
Dr. James Delisle way of solving this kind of problem
a- Ask the student to explain his/her behavior (most of them can’t)
b- Inform the administrator that this student does not fit in the program
7
Some gifted children do not do well in the school and you know they can (the reason is the school is too easy for them so why work?)Sometimes they are hard to control because they think they know much more than the teacher and they challenge their teachers
8
Sometimes it’s a social disadvantage to be a gifted because people think that gifted kids are good at everything they do. However some gifted kids are good at many things; others are exceptionally able at only a few things. Some gifted students are also learning disabled which mean that they might not be very good at schoolwork
9
In 1930,s a gifted woman said (Isolation is the refuge for genus not his goal) and this explains why gifted people try to be alone because they do not want to make enemies by letting people feel they are in higher levels than them)
10
Separate gifted children from normal children only at higher levels and only in special topics such as math because there is no need to put people who are struggling with math with others who have no problems with it (however at earlier stage it is a bit difficult)
11
Not everybody can transmit knowledge even if they are very good in what they are doing (doctors, engineers, etc)
Assign gifted students to teachers who like them
Talk with gifted students about how they differ from other kids
12
The greatest gift to be given to gifted child ( I respect your mind enough so I’m going to give you something different from others)
Change content of what you teach and change process of how you teach
13
Favorite teacher is not the one who teach you but the one who ask you what do you want to learn or teach you something about your self
14
When gifted kids are in contact with each other one of two things happen:
a- They contact as a family because they know they can finish each other sentences
b-They are afraid they are not good enough when they find good people
15
Gifted children most times prefer the company of older children or adults because they listen to their ideas and this is a great issue for them
For a successful summer program: a- What are the classes goalsb-What do the children need
16
Group work is very good for kids just make sure to monitor the group to know everybody is working not only the smart one
If you want to solve the problem you do not need to dig the hole deeper, you might need to dig a hole in a new place.
17
When students come to summer program give them Tic-Tac-Toe sheet and ask them to sit in groups to do it
18
Differentiated programming is a big term for what is really a simple educational concept providing instruction that meets the differing need of all students. For the gifted student, it means the opportunity to advance as far as possible. For the slower learner, it means more support and attention to mastering one skill before moving to another.
19
Between these two ends of the educational spectrum are thousands of other students with varying abilities, learning styles, interests and needs, all of which must be met. This is what differentiated programming attempts to do
20
Call on students randomly, not just those who have raised their hands, because sometimes those who raise their hands are the same ones every time
Utilize "Think –pair-Share" , 2 minutes of individual think time; 2 minutes of discussion with a partner; then discussion with entire class
21
Remember "wait time", a minimum wait of 5 seconds following a higher-level question. Then more students will respond and response will be higher
Ask follow ups, why, does anyone agree or disagree
22
Ask someone else to summarize, students are forced to listen to each others
Allow for students calling "Sarah, please call on someone else to respond" by this way you put the students in charge
23
Ask students to unpack their thinking" please describe how you arrive at that conclusion
Cue student responses " there is more than one answer to this problem, so think broadly"
24
A salient descriptor that characterizes the personality of a gifted child is intensity. Intensity takes many forms that can be both strength and weakness. Recognizing and understanding these intensities can help towards improving the social and emotional life of the child
25
Intensity of thought "his mind is always whirring"Always ask why, why, whyCan’t sleep early because he is exited
Sometimes speak so quickly that you do not understand what he wants to say because he has so much in his mind to say
26
Intensity of purposeOnce he makes up his mind to do something, he’s not satisfied until it is accomplished (does not want to give up)
Intensity of spiritThey’re always looking for someone less fortunate
27
Intensity of soulShe Ask questions that philosophers have asked for centuries and gets upset when we can’t give her definitive answers to them (old soul in a young body)
28
Intensity of emotionShe internalize everything anyone says about herWhen they’re happy-so happy –jumpingWhen they’re sad- it is the end of the word
29
