HOT Training 2015 in Detroit

REVIEW OF HOT TRAINING

RIDING IS WHAT WE DO

One of many courses that I took at the HOT Training in Detroit last month was

called Riding Is What We Do It was about riding safety

The SEE Technique

S ndash ldquoScanning 360 Degreesrdquo Look around your bike for objects

E - ldquoEvaluaterdquo Watch what others will do (What if)

EmdashldquoExecuterdquo Do what is safe

One of the situations this can be applied to when riding through construction

zones We need to look around the whole area we are riding in to make sure

there are no objects in our way or cars that could potentially cut us off as we

pass through the zone

FOG Lines

These lines are on all major and secondary high-

ways There are two types of Fog Lines

The first set of fog lines are on major highways

and they are white and yellow The yellow one is

on the left side of the highway and it tells us that

the edge of the road is there and the shoulder of

the road The white one is on the right side and

this line is very important as it always leads to an exit from the highway

In major fog our vision can be impaired and we canrsquot see as far as we want to

If the fog is so bad that we canrsquot see then this line will always get us to the

next exit of the highway

The second set of FOG Lines is white

on each side of the road with either a

double yellow or solid line with a bro-

ken line These lines indicate that the

road is a two way road and we should

observe each line to be in the correct

lane The right one will always lead to

the next exit as well

Night Riding

While riding on the highway at night it is important to ride in the far right hand

lane as most drunk drivers driving the wrong way will think they are on a two

lane road

Taking Curves

When taking a curve on the road the instructor said to take it in single file as it

is safer as we can use the outside inside outside method as this allows us to

have the space we need to make the curve correctly

I hope this will improve all our riding skills and we have an accident free riding

season

A Newfie walked into a bank in Toronto and asked for the loans officer He told

the loans officer that he was going to Newfoundland on business for two weeks and

needed to borrow $5000 however he was not a depositor of the bank

The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan

so the Newfie handed over the keys to a new Ferrari

The car was parked on the street in front of the bank The Newfie produced the title

and everything checked out The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for

the loan and apologized for having to charge 12 interest

Later the banks president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Newfie for

using a $250000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5000 loan

An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the banks underground garage

and parked it

Two weeks later the Newfie returned repaid the $5000 and the interest of $2307

The loan officer said Sir we are very happy to have had your business and this

transaction has worked out very nicely but we are a little puzzled While you were

away we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire What puzzles us

is why would you bother to borrow $5000

The Newfie replied Where else in Toronto can I park my car for two weeks for only

$2307 and expect it to be there when I return

4 Arizona trip

Mik and I met Arnie Phyllis Marshall amp Heather in Arizona on Feb 19-26 We rented bikes in

Scottsdale and off we went into the desert Our first day was a 300-mile ride to Prescott and

Black Canyon City Our journey consisted of mostly day rides with one overnight trip to Bis-

bee (which is a neat old copper mining town with art galleries antique stores and coffee

houses) In Bisbee we stayed at the well-known haunted Copper Queen hotel that was built in

1898 Included in the overnight trip was a stop at Boothill Graveyard and Tombstone On our

adventure back to Scottsdale we stopped in Tucson to visit the Pima Air amp Space Museum as

well as the airplane bone-yard which is the largest in the world

Our day rides brought us through the Apache Trail Tonto National Monument Tortilla Flats

and the Lost Dutchmans Gold Mine

Throughout our trip we encountered many scenic roads with plenty of curves and nice weather

throughout

Unfortunately all good things come to an end when we had to return back home only to en-

counter -25 weather conditions with wind chill on top of that Dave V

Grizzly the joke guy

$2307 and expect it to be there when I return

numerous antique motorcycles on display from both Canada and the United States This ride is

about two hours east of Toronto and in addition to antique motorcycles and cars there is a

micro brewery a chocolate factory and a cheese factory which produces some of the finest

cheeses coming out of Ontario The event has in the past been held on the first Saturday after

the July first weekend which this year will fall on Saturday July 4st John Archer

I hope this will improve all our riding skills and we have an accident free riding

season

The second set of FOG Lines is white

on each side of the road with either a

double yellow or solid line with a bro-

ken line These lines indicate that the

road is a two way road and we should

observe each line to be in the correct

lane The right one will always lead to

the next exit as well

lane as most drunk drivers driving the wrong way will think they are on a two

Grizzly the joke guy
