Mesa Lab, El Pa so , TexasThe Mesa Lab has a storage area with partitioned walls andlocked door. Only the authorized users have access to thisarea. The area is located away from hearily traveled / workareas. The entire compound is protected by 6 ft. chain linkfence with 1 ft. barbed-wire outriggers. A high security lockis utilized at the gate.

McKelligon Lab, El Paso, TexasThe McKelligon Lab'has a storage area separate frut. the labarea. Inside this storage area is a partitioned wall storagearea for the gauge (s). Only authorized users have access tothis area. The entire compound is protected by 6' chain linkfence with 1 ft. barbed wire outriggers. A high security lockis utilized at the gate.

The following Nuclear Safety Program will be observed at :

all times. A cory of this procedure sheet will be main- s

tained with the gauge in the shipping case as well as inthe license f ile wit h t he Radiation Protection Officer.1. The nuclear gauge will be securely restrained in ve-hicles to prevent theft or loss while unattended or in an i

iaccident. Metal clamps, chains, bars, or storage cabinetsiwill be used.

2. The nuclear gauge and its shipping case will be hidden!from view while in an unattend23 vehicle to minimize at- !tractive nuisance value.'

!3. All users will wear film badges when esing the nuclear i

jgauge. badges will be stored away from gauges when not inuse and will be protect.ed from external heat. ;

11. Aut horized users will be familiar with the instructionmanual of the equipment and follow the safety precautions.

12. Only user maintenance will be performed on the equipment.Maintenance requiring dismantling of the shielding orshutter devices and/or repair to the source will be doneby the manufacturer.

13. The equipment will be leak tested semi-annually using the )instructions and/or kit provided by the U.S. Army Ioniz ingRadiation Dosimetry Center Attn: DRSMI - MCI - DCNLexington, Ky 40511 or other authorized agency. }

14. Responsibilities cf the Radiation Protection Officer.

a.) To assure that byproduct materials possessed under the '

license conform to the materials listed on the license.b.) To assure that use of the devices, particularly in the

field, is only by individuals aut hor iz ed by the license.

c.) To a ssure that all users wear personnel monitoring equip-ment such as film badges.

d.) To assure that gauges are properly secured against un-authorized removal at all times,

e.) To serve as a point of contact and give assistance incase of emergencyi .1uge damage in the field, fire,theft, etc.) and to assure that proper authorities arenotified promptly.

f.) To assure that the terms and condit ions of the license'are met and that required records are periodically re-viewed and maintained in compliance with license.
