Functions of the Guidance Department Academic (course selection/scheduling) Career/College Personal concerns

Students can request an appointment with their counselor by filling out a Counselor Request form and

leaving it with the front desk in the Guidance office. When counselors receive requests, they will call

the student to their office as soon as possible.

Graduation Requirements(Class of 2014)

HSPA Spring of Junior Year 120 Total Credits

4-Pe/Health 4-English 3-Math (Algebra 1 and Geometry) 3-Science 3-Social Studies 1-Foreign Language 1-Practical Art 1-Fine/Performing Art 1-Finacial Literacy (2.5 Credits)

College Bound Students

 Students planning on applying to four-year colleges should take a minimum of 16 courses at the college prep level or higher. Students planning on applying to selective colleges should take a fourth year of Math and a third year of Foreign Language to be competitive. The minimum 16 units must include the following areas:

› 4 - English› 3 - Math› 3 - Lab Science› 3 - Social Studies› 2 - Foreign Language (SAME LANGUAGE) › 1- Elective

Athletic/Activities Eligibility

Fall/Winter: Students must pass 6 classes, or 30 credits to remain eligible for participation.

Spring: Students must pass 6 classes, or 30 credits in the second marking period. Additionally, Students must be passing 30 credits at the end of the first semester (Marking period s 1 and 2 averaged).

Attendance Policy

Missing more than 14 unexcused days per school year will result in No Credit Status.

Excused absences: Note from parent/note from doctor

Cutting class: 4 cuts = No Credit Status
