Established in 1989 Mckimms Limited, was initially set up to service Shetlands

requirements for high quality surface preparation and coatings. Mckimms Limited is a

family run business with a long and well established reputation making quality and

customer satisfaction two of the main reasons for our continuing success. We have

invested heavily in training, technology, plant and equipment providing an efficient

service of the highest standard to many organisations across Scotland’s Northern Isles.

Our modern blast cleaning and specialist coating facilities within the Sullom Voe area

allows for the high grade finishes expected in modern day projects. Depending on the

project and chosen paint system we can offer a guarantee from 12 to 60 months.

Mckimms Limited operate a fully certified Quality Management System ensuring high levels

of quality assurance are maintained throughout the company. We have been accredited to

ISO 9001 since 2007 and Investors in People since 2005.

Location

Mckimms Limited are based in Sullom Voe in the Shetland Islands.Our premises are situated across 2 sites, both 1.5 miles fromthe Sullom Voe Oil Terminal and Shetland Gas Plant, making itan ideal location for projects both on and off site.

Our yard is only half a mile from the Shetland IslandsCouncil Ports & Harbours base making it ideal totransport boats lifted with their 70Tonne boat hoist.Our rates are very reasonable and we can accommodate

numerous boats at any one time.

To add to our blast facilities we have recently designed and installed a new blast enclosure

which allows larger projects to be carried out under controlled conditions through to

completion. This is 90m2 of heated blast room with automated grit recovery and dust

extraction. Located directly opposite one of our spray shops projects are then transfered to be

coated up.

In our yard we can undertake any size of project. If it can be transported, we can accommodate it. Here we can perform open blasting using various environmentally friendly abrasives, we have various shelters and scaffolding to provide cover should the

project require.

In our secure yard we can offer yard space and storage rental to suit your requirements.We can supply various storage facilities, should it be simply laydown area or yard space,

storage containers, office & workshop space or more permanent solutions for long term rental.

At Mckimms Limited we have a wide range of plant and equipment to allow us to carry out

our work in an efficient and safe manner both on and off-site. We also have a range of

equipment and plant available for hire.

Our machines are fitted with Chalwyn valves and spark arrestors making them safe for

PLANT & EQUIPMENT HIRE


Pressure Cleaning is an essential stage of our painting process. It is important to remove any contaminants from the substrate prior to blasting. Our high pressure machines fitted with a

turbo lance are efficient in removing heavy rust or paint prior to blasting in order to cut down

on grit used to clean the surface making the job more efficient and cost effective. Some of our

pressure washing services include:

We have numerous high pressure washers including Petrol,Diesel, Electric and Air driven machines allowing work to

be carried out in any circumstance. We also have towable

bowsers with or without a pressure washer mounted to the

trailer making for an efficient service in remote locations.

These are used for heavier applications which include rust

removal and surface preparation in any marine or industrial

environment.

PRESSURE CLEANING


At Mckimms Ltd we have facilities and equipment which allow grit blasting to be carried out in

most conditions and circumstances, both on and off-site. We use various types of

abrasives, from re-usable steel grit to the softest expendable materials, each for different

requirements and surface profiles. Our facilities and equipment include:

Open Blasting

In our extensive yard we can carry out blastingjobs of any size. We have the materials and

equipment to completely cover in a project should

it require. We also have a number of fully mobile

sets of equipment allowing blasting to be carried

out on or off site. We have over 30 blast pots

ranging from single bag ibex units to 7 bag 2452units for larger projects.

Blast Rooms

We have 2 separate heated blast rooms, both with dust extraction, automated grit recovery

and cleaning systems. We use re-usable steel grit making for a more cost effective and

productive project.

We also have a Blast cabinet used for

smaller applications (brackets, washers,

wheels, etc).

Slurry/Wet Blasting

Slurry blast units are ideal for heavy

industrial cleaning applications and

typical uses include but are not limited to:

cleaning of ship hulls, tank internals,

offshore maintenance and general steel

fabrication. The media is totally saturated

in water within the system, fully

dampening any airborne fines and dust

during the blasting process. This is ideal

in areas where excessive dust may be an

issue.

ABRASIVE CLEANING


Closed Circuit Blasting

Eductomatic The Eductomatic is a portable closed circuit suction unit. It provides effective containment of dust and abrasive. A range of heads are available to provide a seal against

most surfaces. A 360° swivel blast head enables cleaning at all angles and with a total weight

of 3 kg it is light and manoeuvrable. A recyclable abrasive is normally used which is cleaned

by the unit, with all dust contained in an attached dust bag.

Eductoblast Combining Hodge Clemco’s standard portable blast cleaning equipment and abrasive recovery system creates an efficient closed circuit blast system - The Eductoblast is

an air powered unit and is ideally suited for use with metallic abrasives. The collection hopper

is particularly useful for safe disposal of lead based coatings.

Pipe Internal

We have invested in 2 specialist pieces of equipment to allow us to blast pipe internals from

2 inch up to 36 inch. The Hollow Blast will effectively blast pipes from 2 inch up to 12 inch,

the abrasive hits the tungsten carbide deflector tip and fans out to clean the 360 degree

interior.

Our Spin Blast machine will blast pipes from 8 inch up to 36 inch. Complete removal of

virtually any contaminant to white metal can easily be achieved, making it a favourite of

refineries, pipe liners, chemical producers, water and gas companies.

Abrasive Recovery Units

Our air operated recovery units provide a cost-effective

abrasive recovery solution. With only one major moving

part, the recovery unit requires no electrical power, making

for an overall more efficient blast cleaning process. It usesa cyclone to separate dust from reusable grit, which falls

under gravity into the hopper for safe disposal or re-use.

Meanwhile, the dust is drawn into a filter box before being

discharged through the Jet Pump as clean air.

Mobile Dust Extraction

Mckimms have recently invested in a new state of the art

6000cfm fully automated air driven dust extraction system.

The sole use of air for the automated reverse jet pulse

system and motor eliminates the chance of sparks, making

it ideal for refineries or live plants. It is mobile and caneasily be moved using the dedicated lifting points by

forklift, crane or hi-ab.

In our fully equipped paint shop facilities we can apply any paint system under controlled conditions. We are experienced in applying a wide range of coatings to suit any specification

and are also the local agent for Sigma Coatings, part of the PPG group.

We have the ability to apply anything from basic holding primers to glass flake tank coatings

using airless, conventional and high volume low pressure (HVLP) paint spraying methods.

Thermal Spraying

We are fully trained in thermal spray applications and use the MK73 Flame Spray System. Thermal spraying is employed worldwide in countless applications where a metal surface is

required to be applied in an efficient, cost effective and quality controlled manner.

Materials commonly sprayed: Zinc, Aluminium, Zinc Aluminium Alloy,Copper, Nickel, Brass, Bronze.

Servi Wrapping

Mckimms have received full training in servi wrapping and since

becoming approved applicators in 2008 have been involved in many

projects from start to finish. We stock various sizes of the servi wrap

and primer, which is kept in controlled conditions.

Pipe Internal Coating

We have 2 pieces of equipment that allow us to coat the internal of

pipes from 3 inch up tp 38 inch. The Mini Rormaster R9003 is used

to coat pipe internals from 3 inch to 6 inch and the Rormaster IIR9001 will comfortably spray pipe internals from 6 to 38 inch.

We use the R9400 Control Gun to accurately control the spraying

process.

COATINGS & APPLICATIONS....

Inspection Services

At Mckimms we have a full time ICOR Level 2 Coatings Inspector and a full time Nace Level 1Coatings Inspector. We not only offer inspection for our own work but can offer 3rd party inspection for

any project, be it for a day or more lengthy contracts.

A detailed inspection report is presented on

completion of the job.

Hydro Testing

It is very important that blast pots and otherpressure vessels are regularly tested to ensure

their integrity has not been jeaporadised due to

corrosion or damage. We have been trained and

certificated to carry out hydro testing on pressure

vessels. Once the equipment has been checked

and we are satisfied with the results we will issue

a certificate and test plate for each piece of

equipment, as standard blast pots are usually

checked every 12 months.

Equipment Servicing & Repair

We stock an extensive range of spares for most

equipment and plant used for all disiplines of blasting and painting. Genuine Graco repair kits

for pumps and guns, tips, paint lines, hoses, fittings, filters, breathing air box and

compressor spares.

We are fully trained and certificated to service and repair Spray Units, Breathing air boxes,

Blast pots and dust extraction equipment.

Yard & Storage Rental

Within our our premises there is scope for outside contractors to rent secure yard or office

space, shed and storage rental. We have numerous options and locations within our premises

which can be tailored to the clients specific needs.
