FLOW ~ VINYASA YOGA (ACTIVE MOVEMENT CLASSES)

Ashtanga ~ The Ashtnaga Led Primary Series is a vigorous & challenging Vinyasa practice ~ with an emphasis on refinement of postures & breath. This class explores deeper elements such as bandhas, drishti & ujayi pranayama.

*Ashtanga Basics ~ introduces students to roughly half of the Primary Series postures, focusing on the form and integrity in asana, breath, and posture transitions. This class offers both a comfortable introduction for students new to the practice, as well as an opportunity for regular Ashtanga students to focus on details.

Yang Vinyasa ~ A spicy, more energized Vinyasa flow class that will physically challenge you. A variety of asanas are incorporated to keep the body & mind engaged. Prepare to sweat!

Vinyasa ~ A steady flow of yoga postures in which movement is coordinated with the breath. This practice moves at a more moderate pace, a bit slower than Ashtanga and Yang vinyasas, with additional focus on refinement & alignment of postures. Vinyasa Basics offers students a more accessible sequence of postures - a great way to see if Vinyasa is for you!

EMBODIED VINYASA FLOW, EMBODIED ASANA & SOMATIC YOGA (SUBTLE MOVEMENT CLASSES)

Embodied Vinyasa Flow ~ A Vinyasa flow class centered around experiential anatomy & somatic principles which supports conscious, free, easeful movement. This movement meditation allows the student to observe habits, increase body awareness, enhance motor learning, sharpen mental focus & increase overall understanding of themselves & the world around them.

Embodied Asana ~ An Asana class centered around experiential anatomy & somatic principles which supports conscious, free, easeful movement. This movement meditation allows the student to observe habits, increase body awareness, enhance motor learning, sharpen mental focus & increase overall understanding of themselves & the world around them.

Soma Yoga ~ Unravel tension, increase mobility and create new pathways. Gentle, fluid movement sequences incorporate lying on the floor, prone, supine and side lying to provide an exploration in subtle awareness. Asana is rarely incorporated, but sometimes offered. Discover the joy of full embodiment, ease of movement and peaceful expression.

FORM & FUNDAMENTALS (STRUCTURE & ALIGNMENT CLASSES)

Fundamentals ~ Explore the basics of yoga in a steady, mindful manner while developing the breath. Progressively develops strength, flexibility & body intelligence through asana while elements of vinyasa, pranayama and meditation are introduced. Props are often used in this practice.

*Fundamentals Beginner- Level 1 ~ Focuses on standing postures& preps for inversions. Explore the basics in a steady, mindful manner while developing the breath. Props used.

Yoga Core ~ Poses that awaken, strengthen & stabilize your body’s core in an Iyengar practice. Poses are refined with the use of props. Some prior yoga recommended.

Iyengar ~ Focus is on correct posture, alignment & symmetry. Poses are refined with the use of props. * Beginner- Level 1 focuses on standing postures, & preps for inversions. Levels 1 thru 2 delve into more advanced postures and extended time in inversions. Level 2-3 classes are for seasoned practitioners able to sustain long inversions, focus is on advanced variations.

Wall Ropes Class ~ Discover wall ropes in the Iyengar tradition and open the shoulders, increase upper body awareness, broaden your range of motion, as you deepen your experience of inversions, back bends and other poses. Be sure to check that ropes are securely in place and that a teacher is in the studio prior to using. A minimum of 1 year of prior yoga is required.

THERAPEUTIC & WOMEN’S YOGA (FOCUS ON SPECIFIC MODALITIES

*Therapeutic Yoga: Neck & Shoulders ~ The focus in this class is unwinding tension from the neck & shoulders to create greater range of motion. Too much time leaning forward over a computer, texting and driving all create imbalance in our neck & shoulders. Learn how to release the tension in this overused, ignored area & rediscover freedom of movement once again.

*Therapeutic Yoga ~ Allows students to re-educate movement patterns, as well as increase body intelligence & awareness. In this class modifications & props are used generously in order to target areas of compromise. Poses are mostly passive with some core stabilization. The aim is to learn how to adapt and modify postures in order to best serve each individual.

*Yoga for Women ~ Designed to honor being a woman through gentle, nurturing asana & ancient yogic wisdom. Poses focus on the Endocrine system and the Pelvic Floor. All levels.

SOUND MEDITATION & RESTORATIVE YOGA (PASSIVE INNER EXPLORATIONS)

*Restorative ~ A quiet, inward focused, cooling practice that uses supported passive postures to deeply relax the body, replenish energy & restore clarity to the mind. All levels.

*Sound Healing Meditation ~ Experience the healing power of sound through chanting, toning, mantra, with singing bowls or harmonium. Connect the breath & sound to create a deeply relaxed meditative state. Discussion of principles included. The practice includes seated active meditation and supported restorative postures with guided visualiztion & sound.

MEDITATION

* Mindfulness Meditation ~ Sitting in meditation, ease into your week with a combination of guided meditation, chant or mantra, followed by a silent sitting practice. Geared toward the Vipassana lineage this hour long practice includes time for Q & A. Appropriate for both the beginner and advanced practitioner.

* Belly Dancing ~ Learn Egyptian belly dance, incorporating fluid patterns & sharp articulations as you begin to move in new and different ways. Let the movement and rhythms guide you in a dance shared throughout time & across continents. All levels welcome.

SERIES CLASSES

4 WEEK HAPPY & HEALTHY EATING AT THE HOLIDAYS SERIES ~ Join Celia Naples, Certified Holistic Wellness Coach, for ways to retool your holidays celebrations with healthy fooods options and ways stress impacts our eating habits. This series is based on a supportive group of likeminded individuals who share similar struggles & goals. Tools provided are a workbook with details to support your goals. Specific recipes geared toward Healthy Holiday classics are offered to support your modified diet, as well as recommended supplements to aid in digestion and keeping your body in balance. All this is encompassed in group on the same journey providing feedback and support through their own discovery process. A one on one consultation with Celia is also included in the cost of this series. This is an action-oriented program & will provide strategies, assessments, tools & support to guide you to your personal definition of success.

8 WEEK SUTRAS & STRESS SERIES ~ We all experience heightened stress around the holiday seasons. Come experience the difference that breath work (pranayama) and reframing our life experiences through the lens of the Sutras can make this Holiday season. Explore the yoga sutras to gain insight about our habits and learn practices that develop self-understanding & acceptance. Clarity is gained to help shift defeating behaviors and self-awareness is cultivated. The sutras say, as we develop this practice, we open to the light of intelligence and a steadiness is established within. Create a place where you find stability, to be at home in your core or center.This series will focus on the sutras, discussion, meditation and pranayama ~ and a subtle asana practice at times. There is required reading material that will need to be purchased for this series - please inquire at the desk or check flier for details.

COMMUNITY YOGA CLASSES

Community Yoga classes taught by DYC Teacher Trainees ~ A win / win for everyone! DYC $5 Community Yoga classes are beginner-friendly classes that will be taught by Teacher Trainees enrolled in DYC’s current 200 Hour Teacher Training Program. Class formats vary and include Yoga Fundamentals, where attention is given to alignment details, or beginners level Vinyasa Flow. Each class will include instruction in foundational yoga postures and how to use props to support your postures. Modifications will be offered for each posture. Remember – even your favorite DYC teachers started in their very same shoes. Come support our DYC teaching students as they begin sharing their love of yoga with our community!

*All proceeds from these classes will go into DYC’s Hanuman Fund, a scholarship program that assists aspiring yoga students and instructors in their training.
