~ BIOGRAPHY ~ Jimmy Angel is a survivor of Rock ‘n Roll, the Mob, and the Feds—a David and Goliath story. James Oliver Tyler began his ascension to “Jimmy Angel Teen Idol” when four men dispatched by the Colombo crime family snatched him from Joe Cuoghi’s Record Shop in Memphis. Jason Gutierrez (GUITARIST & PRODUCER) is a world-class musician and songwriter, in addition to being a producer, engineer, and owner of Enfield Studios in Reseda, Calif. He began playing professionally aged just fifteen as lead guitarist for The Ernie Valens Band a.k.a. Valenz, led by the cousin of famed rocker Ritchie Valens. Formed to honor the songs of Ritchie Valens, the band played an

integral role in the campaign to honor Ritchie with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and induction into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. In the summer of 2001, Jason’s career took off when he joined the worldwide tour of Hip Hop legends The Pharcyde, culminating in performances at the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival. That same year, he co-founded Funk & Soul band Maintain, notably one of the more prolific Neo-Soul bands in Southern California for the next ten years. In 2012, Jason was featured in Recording Magazine for his hybrid analog/digital production work on Soul singer Fanny Franklin's debut record, and was introduced to Jimmy Angel by his father, Sal. The rest is history – Jason became the bandleader and lead guitarist for Jimmy Angel and The Jason Gutierrez 3, and produced LOVE FEVER at his studio. Jason also plays in his own band, The Zip Guns, and still performs with The Ernie Valens Band a.k.a. Valenz, and The Pharcyde.

Sal Guitarez (THE BASSIST) was “born with a guitar in his hands,” strumming his way through grammar school, high school, and on to San Francisco City College, where he received his degree in music–while living down the block from The Grateful Dead during the ‘flower power’ days of Haight-Ashbury. Sal studied classical guitar at Cal State Northridge, and was the Video Producer for legendary Classical

Guitarist Andrew Segovia’s final Master Class at USC in 1986. For the next thirty years he was always playing, only setting down his guitar long enough to get married and start a family. With credits too extensive to list, highlights include co-founding the Ritchie Valens Community Talent Service. Sal’s first student was Ritchie’s cousin, Ernie Valens. He taught him to play Ritchie’s songs, and later became a founding member of the Ernie Valens Band a.k.a. Valenz, and secured their recording contract with Del-Fi Records. Sal is also one of Los Angeles’ most highly regarded guitar instructors, but in 2012, a thumb tendon condition threatened his livelihood. Sal prayed for help, and a friend introduced him to Jimmy Angel. Jimmy liked the way Sal handled his bass, and offered him the gig. Sal accepted, adding his driving technique to the pocket, and rounding out the nucleus of Jimmy’s super-tight band. Sal says, “It is some of my best playing. I thought my performing days were over, but God sent me an Angel.”

Jon Biggs (THE DRUMMER) is a California native and lifelong resident of the San Fernando Valley. His obsession with drumming and music began with his stepdad, a guitar player and avid collector of records and videotapes, who turned him on to a lot of great music. Jon knew what he wanted to do with his life when he held his first pair of drumsticks. His first music teacher was a huge inspiration, and in 1987,

he started playing drums in the school orchestra, Jazz band, and marching band. He was hooked. Before long, he was playing the Sunset Strip and backyard parties. Jon’s first big break came in 1991, when fresh out of high school he joined Alternative band Violent Winter, touted as “the next big thing.” By 1997, the band had dissolved and Jon was faced with the idea of getting a “real job.” He began working for respected drum builder Pork Pie Percussion, while gigging on the side. In 2011, the luster of the “real job” had worn off, and Jon jumped at the opportunity to join Funk & Soul band Orgōne on their North American tour, and realized being a professional musician was his calling. Jon met Jimmy Angel through fellow musician Jason Gutierrez, and signed on as drummer and percussionist in Jimmy’s crusade to “Get America Back.” He has never looked back.
