    From Starting to iding

    3hen engine is cold*depress 7oth car7uretor tic&lers 2 seconds longer as the time at

    #hich petrol is coming out o+ the over+lo# 7ore o+ the +loat 7o#l lo#er part =odels $3$ and '3$4 or open cho&e as +ar as possi7le, never use intermediate position =odel

    )$3$4.3hen engine is hot*do not actuate tic&lers or cho&e.

    For starting*turn on ignition> red, green and orange indicator lights must 7e on.

    'epress starter utton.I+ ou start manuall depress &ic& starter 7rie+l and then &ic&

    through +orce+ull, onl at #arm engine eventuall turn on throttle slightl ma?. 13"turn4. I+ engine )$3$4 does not start #hen it is ver hot, put cho&e +or short time on

    medium position, throttle closed.

    t low outside temperatures*cran& engine #ith &ic& starter t#o or three times, #ith

    ignition s#itched o++> actuate starter +or no longer than 1 seconds to protect the 7atter.0 second attempt at starting #hich might 7ecome necessar should 7e made onl a+ter a

    short pause o+ 2 to ! seconds, and it must not 7e o+ much longer duration than the +irst

    one. starter protection switchprevents unintentional repeat starting #hile the engine is

    running> This protection s#itch is actuated 7 the alternator. Onl i+ the engine P= is

    su++icient +or the alternator to produce current #ill the starter loc&. Please avoid restartingthe engine 7e+ore it has stopped completel so that no damage #ill 7e done to the teeth o+

    the +l#heel or the starter pinion.

    3hen the engine has startedand the idle speed increases, the oil pressure indicator light

    orange4 and the charging indicator light red4 in the instrument cluster must go out. I+ theoil pressure control lamp lights up #hile driving, declutch immediatel#and turn o++ the

    ignition. I+ the engine oil level is ade8uate, consult our B=9 dealer. I+ the charging

    indicator light stas on during operation consult our B=9 dealer. This is an indication

    that our alternator is not #or&ing, and #ill ultimatel result in a dead 7atter.Letting the engine idle !or etented periodsis harm+ul since this #ill cause the engine

    to overheat. %or =odel )$3$, s#itch o++ the cho&e latest #hen engine starts +aultconcentric running.

    )o start riding*disengage clutch, depress +oot shi+t lever neutral indicator lamp, green,

    goes out4, release clutch slo#l and appl a little throttle at the same time. Properoperation o+ the clutch increases its li+e> there+ore, avoid popping the clutch in at high

    P=.

    )o shi!t intosecond, third and +ourth gear, declutch and simultaneousl release the

    throttle, pull up +oot shi+t lever once per gear, then let in clutch and appl throttle as

    needed. Figure 11

    up; the shi+t lever partiall green neutral indicator lights up4.

    Aven the most care+ull machined parts re8uire a certain 7rea&6in period. The

    per+ormance and longevit o+ our motorccle depends to a great e?tent on ho# care+ull

    it is 7ro&en in. The surest method is to:1. ever e?ceed the permissi7le ma?imum speed in each gear

    2. ide mostl on #inding countr roads> avoid turnpi&es!. I+ turnpi&es cannot 7e avoided, tr to var our speed constantl> do not operate at a

    constant speed +or long periods.

    ". 0l#as approach the ma?imum allo#a7le speed and immediatel 7ac& o++.

    Fuel$%or per+ect operation the =odels '3$ and )$3$ re8uire the use o+ a 7rand6

    name high test +uel #ith a minimum octane rating o+ -- O4. The =odel $3$ can 7eoperated #ith regular gasoline, #ith a minimum octane rating o+ -2 O4. In the event

    ou are +orced to use gasoline #ith a lo#er octane rating, ou can prevent detonation 7&eeping the Angine P= a7ove 2$, 7 shi+ting do#n earlier than usual and 7 turningthe throttle ver slo#l.

    7ngine Oil$9e recommend chec&ing the oil level regularl. (uring the 7rea&6in it

    should 7e chec&ed ever ! miles. To top up al#as use the same 7rand and tpe, +illonl to the upper mar& on the dip stic&. Too much oil in the Angine is useless and ma

    cause damage. The amount o+ oil 7et#een the t#o mar&s on the dip stic& amounts to 2.1

    pints. The oil level must never 7e 7elo# the lo#er mar&. Dnder no circumstances open

    the +iller cap #hile the engine is runningE Push the dip stic& in #hen chec&ing, do not

    scre# it in. Figu re 14 1"

    I! #ou desire to switch to a di!!erent rand o! oil* do so onl# i! #ou change the oil as

    well as the !ilter.

    Our engines are designed to operate #ith all high grade, 7rand name engine oils> the do

    not re8uire an additives. %or tpes o+ recommended oil see Technical (ata.The same applies to transmission, rear #heel drive, and drivesha+t housing.

    it is operated. High speeds, +ast starts, and 8uic& stops cause, 7esides greater +uel and oil

    Principall, use 7oth 7ra&es simultaneousl +or all 7ra&ing6operations and 7ra&e so+tl 66#hich means increase the pull or the pressure on the 7ra&e levers graduall so that the

    #heels #ill never loc&, i+ at all possi7le. 0l#as shi+t to neutral #hen stopping. (o not

    let the engine idle in gear #ith the clutch disengaged. iding the clutch or letting it slip+or long periods o+ time causes local overheating and unnecessar #ear.

    0l#as turn o++ the ignition #hen stopping the engine and close the petcoc&s #hen

    standing still +or longer periods.

    )ra8el reparations9e recommend ta&ing along the +ollo#ing spare parts #hen ta&ing longer trips: one air

    +ilter cartridge, one set o+ spar& plugs and light 7ul7s, clinderhead and clinder 7ase

    gas&et, some scre#s and nuts =' F =*, spring #ashers, ting #ire, ru77er 7ands appr..2; #ide, cut o++ +rom motorccle or auto tu7es4 one pneumatic tu7e al#as replace

    punctured tu7es4. Should ou o#n a motorccle #ith considera7le mileage, #e suggest

    ou 7ring it to a B=9 dealer to have it chec&ed thoroughl. Be+ore going on a trip it is

    important to chec& the +unctioning and condition o+ the light and ignition sstems, theclinderheads, clinders, pistons, clutch, 7ra&es, control ca7les, car7uretor, #heels and

    tires. I+ an repairs are necessar the should 7e accomplished 7e+ore ou start on our

    trip.I+ a trip is intended to ta&e several months and also cover countries #ith di++icult travel

    conditions, it is recommended to add the +ollo#ing to the alread mentioned spare parts:

    a set o+ ignition points, a centri+ugal spar& advance, and a set o+ control ca7les, to 7e

    attached parallel to the ca7les in the ccle #ith adhesive tape.

    Chec& ever ! miles, 7ut at least once a month, #hether the acid level o+ the 7atter is

    #ithin the level mar&ings o+ the acid level #indo#. I+ the level is too lo#, +ill #ithdistilled #ater not acid4. The top o+ the 7atter should 7e &ept clean and dr. Protect the

    (ismount head light 7ut do not disconnect, let it hang do#n 7ut protect it and the +ender

    Insert throttle slide = 5 ma&e certain that the locating ta7 o+ the cover is placed properl into the

    recess o+ the housing.

    Insert 8acuum piston = (5#ith diaphragm and needle valve #ithout oil> place the

    locating pin o+ the diaphragm so that it +its into the corresponding recess o+ the upper parto+ the car7uretor. The t#o pressure e8uali@ation holes in the vacuum piston must 7e

    angle meter is availa7le, proceed as +ollo#s: emove spar& plugs, insert ' mm allen#rench into the alternator rotor 7olt and turn engine clocise in direction o+ rotation

    5. Transmission

    )he !our-speed transmissionis mounted directl to the engine housing. The

    transmission permits changing the gear ratio to permit the engine to operate in idle P=ranges at all times. The transmission consists essentiall o+ an input sha+t, counter sha+t,and output sha+t, all three o+ #hich are carried +ront and rear in over6rated 7all 7earings>

    and o+ the shi+ting mechanism. The input sha+t has in +ront, the drive gear and in the rear,

    the gear to actuate the &ic&starter. The clutch push rod is located inside the input sha+t.

    The drive gear is mounted #ith a cushioning device to a7sor7 shoc&. The counter sha+tand output sha+t have " gears each #hich are constantl meshed.

    Shi+ting is accomplished 7 pushing the +oot shi+t lo#er up or do#n. 0 segment gear

    turns the shi+ter cam plate #hen the +oot shi+t lever is actuated> The 2 shi+ter +or&s areengaged in slots provided in the cam plate and into sliding dogs. The 2 dogs engage into

    the appropriate gear. The 2 dogs have ) #indo#s #hich engage into ) corresponding

    do#els on each gear. The dogs are splined on the ha+t and move a?iall 7et#een 2 gears,there7 engaging them. To prevent the gear +rom slipping out the cam plate is spring

    In neutral, a contact pin mounted on the shi+ter cam plate closes a circuit, the green
