Whatever your interests, there are lots of groups of like minded people to share your passion with in
Tumbarumba Shire.
SPORT
Equestrian
Tumbarumba has a strong equestrian community. There are two active pony clubs in the shire –
Jingellic and Tumbarumba. These clubs provide children with the opportunity to meet new friends,
learn new skills, receive instruction by qualified coaches, compete in a safe environment and have a
whole lot of fun. Tumbarumba Pony Club holds rallies every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. Tumbarumba also
hosts the annual Zone 20 Pony Club camp each summer.
Tumbarumba Polocrosse Club has open, mixed and sub-junior competitions at their annual carnival.
They also host a Stockman’s Challenge and Team Penning annual event.
The annual Tumbarumba Campdraft is a popular event in Tumbarumba, and utilises the newly
upgraded Tumbarumba equine centre.
Other volunteer-run equestrian events organised by local clubs include the Tumbarumba Rodeo,
Lions Charity Trail Ride, and Tumbarumba Gold Cup races.

Football
The Tumbarumba Australian Football/Netball Club is part of the Upper Murray Football Netball
League. The Tumbarumba Greens Rugby League Club is part of the Group 9 Rugby League
competition. Both codes also have junior competitions. A mixed touch football competition is also
held in the summer months.

Cricket
In summer, the Tumbarumba District Cricket Association holds its season, with most villages in the
Shire fielding a team. Junior cricket is played on Saturday mornings. Tumbarumba Primary School
also has a strong girl’s cricket team.

Tennis
Both Tumbarumba and Khancoban have active tennis clubs, with social competitions played in the
summer months. Children’s tennis clinics are also run in Tumbarumba – generally in the summer

Golf
The Golf clubs in Tumbarumba Shire are very active, and are located at Tumbarumba, Khancoban,
Welaregang (Tooma) and Walwa/Jingellic.

Netball
Tumbarumba has Junior and senior netball teams that participate in the Upper Murray League.

Bowls are played at the Tumbarumba Bowling Club, which also runs barefoot bowls in summer.

Tumbarumba Motorcycle Sports Club
If your children are into motorbikes, they will love going to the rallies at Tumbarumba’s motorcycle

participating in little athletics.

Fishing & Boating
Tumbarumba Boating and Fishing Club holds family fishing weekends at Sue City, between
Tumbarumba and Cabramurra.
Khancoban Angling Club is a family friendly club that continually invites and welcomes new
members. The club holds at least four fishing competitions throughout the trout season. More

ART & CULTURE There is an active artists group in Tumbarumba, centred on the Artists on Parade gallery. The gallery
holds regular exhibitions and workshops, as well as music soirees. The gallery recently purchased a
baby grand piano, which is often used in performances by visiting musicians.
The annual Tumbarumba Art Show is a fundraiser for Carcoola, the local child care centre. It features
local and regional artists, and the opening night is one of the highlights of Tumbarumba’s social
calendar.
Photography buffs may like to join the Tumbarumba Camera Club. They regularly organise field trips
to some of the region’s most scenic and interesting sites.
The Tumbarumba Film Appreciation Society meets for a film showing every Thursday evening at Nest
Cinema Cafe.
The Tumbarumba Historical Society is extremely active in researching, preserving and promoting Tumbarumba’s cultural heritage. The society oversaw the extension of the Tumbarumba Library in 2013 to include a purpose built local history archives room. The library also has a number of active book club groups that meet regularly, as well as a Friends of the Library group.
Tumbarumba’s local theatre company, THATCO, produces amateur theatre performances each year. The Pioneer Women’s Hut and Heritage Quilt Museum at the Glenroy Heritage Reserve is one of the
most unusual small museums in Australia. It reflects the ingenuity of women in finding solutions to
the challenges of looking after a family in early rural times. The Glenroy Cottage Crafts Shop is also
on site, and volunteers sell local handmade crafts and produce.
While driving in Tumbarumba Shire, tune your radio to the local community radio station, Radio Upper Murray. Local announcers broadcast out of both Tumbarumba and Walwa. The Tumbarumba Pipes and Drums was established in 1960, and its first official engagement was in 1961, leading the Anzac Day march from the War Memorial, an engagement carried out faithfully every year since. High School hall.
