The Photography Section of the Media
Club will have a meeting on
Wednesday, Feb. 24th in Mrs. Gage’s room (Room 128).
Congratulations to the the Deep Run Wrestling Team. Our Wrestlers finished the season undefeated in the
district owning the District Championship Crown for the 2nd consecutive year. The team finished 5th at
Regional advancing Kasey Early, Jack Walsh, Jon Kim, Peyton Walsh and Matt Lassiter on to States. Kasye Early became the First State Champion in Deep Run History as he defeated his opponent in the State Fianl
Match this past weekend. This is not just a huge announcement but a huge accomplishment. Great Job Kasey Early. Peyton Walsh earned third place as he defeated the number one ranked Andrew Perryman from Robinson High School. The team placed 13th
overall at States. Great Season Wrestlers and thank you for representing Deep Run with so much Pride!
The Deep Run TSA chapter will meet Tuesday and Thursday during
extended study in room 129. All members need to attend one of the
two days. If you need to work on projects for the regional fair the lab will be open after school on both Tuesday and Thursday for you to
work. See Mr. Gross in room 129 for a pass or if you have any questions.
all members of the Best Buddies Club. There is a mandatory informational meeting for all
members on Tuesday, February 23rd. The meeting will be at 8:15 in
the morning in Mr. Kern's room. This is an important meeting regarding future participation in the club and
everyone needs to plan on attending. If you have questions please see Mr.
Kern.
The next NHS meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 24 th in the auditorium. Please note that this meeting will be in the morning at 8:15am. All
members should plan to attend.
Tryouts for the boys soccer team are Mon-Wed Feb 22-
24.We will be trying out of site. You must have a VHSL
physical form completed Stop by the bulletin board in the
commons for more information. Bring running
shoes and cleats.
Tech Center Open House for both Highland Springs and Hermitage will be on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact

The 2010 RIDE FOR KNOWLEDGE will be held April 4- April 7th. Colleges to be visited include
Spelman, Morehouse, Clark-Atlanta University and more. There are mandatory seminars you must
attend. If you are interested and need more information please come
by the school counseling office.
If you are interested in exploring the opportunities a women's college has
to offer then join Trinity Episcopal School for "GIRLS NIGHT OUT".
Ladies can meet college admission representatives and students from
Salem College, Sweetbriar, Hollins, Agnes Scott & Meredith College.
This event will be held on Tues., Feb. 23 - 6:30-8:30pm.
An OPEN HOUSE FOR THE HERMITAGE & HIGHLAND
SPRINGS TECH CENTERS will be held on Wednesday, February 24th from 4-7pm at both Centers.
This is a great opportunity to explore what the Tech Centers have to offer and to meet the
teachers that make it happen!
10K T-Shirts will be on sale for pre-orders during Lunches February 22nd-26th. It is a
dri-fit running shirt and costs only $12. You may bring cash or Checks payable to DRHS.
This announcement is for all students interested in running
Outdoor Track and Field. There will be a Mandatory Information
and Sign Up Meeting in the Commons during extended study on Wednesday, February 24th.

The Deep Run Lady Wildcats captured an amazing last minute come back win to knock off Tucker 45-43 in the Colonial
District Tournament last night. Freshmen Kelly Siewers hit 2 3-point shots in the last minute, Nicole Gram stole the ball with 6 seconds left and right before the
clock hit zero, Nicole Pandak banked in a lay-up to win the game. The Lady
Wildcats will now take their momentum to the District Semi-Finals vs. Hermitage
Wednesday Night after one of the most exciting finishes in school history.
Seniors: If you have NOT signed the border for the
senior picture, members of the yearbook staff will be
coming around to Extended Studies Tuesday -
Thursday this week.

Physics students who have already signed up to go to Busch Gardens
need to bring payment of $70 to Mrs. Swartz in room 208 as soon as
possible
Those students 16 and older are encouraged to donate blood on February 23 rd when the Virginia
Blood Service will be at Deep Run. ALL students must obtain a
parental permission form --- found outside rooms 208 and
232. Have these signed and take them to Mrs. Matthews in room
231 for an appointment.

The Armenian Education Center is holding a $1,000 Scholarship Essay contest that is open to students in grades 9-12. Check the
Scholarship Drawer in the Career Center for more
information. Essays are due no later than April 1st.
The Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund is offering 6 $2,500 scholarships in memory of Janice M. Scott who died at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. This scholarship is
primarily based on financial need, but also academics, community service and writing ability. Applications are due March 31,2010. Please request
transcript by March 17, 2010. Applications and additional
information are available in the Scholarship Drawer.
Rensselaer invites academically talented students to apply to the PREFACE
Summer Program 2010 at Rensselaer! PREFACE is a two-week residential summer experience for talented high
school sophomores and juniors who will enter 11th or 12th grade in fall 2010, and have expressed a strong, early interest in pursuing a career in the engineering and technological professions. To apply visit:

The Mark Brennan Impact Scholarship is given in memory of a former student who attended Deep Run. 2 $1,000 scholarships will be
awarded to seniors who plan to further their education beyond high
school. Applicants must have participated in one varsity sport at
DRHS. Applications are due to Mrs. Kaplan by March 5th. Applications
and additional information are available in the Scholarship Drawer.
Attention Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors: The VCU School of
Dentistry is sponsoring the Dental Career Exploration Program for
students interested in exploring a career in dentistry. This program
will be conducted during the summer. For more information

The Joel Booth Memorial Scholarship provides $500 to a
senior at Deep Run who has been a member of the Glen
Allen Youth Athletic Association for a minimum of 3 years. Applications are due to
Mrs. Kaplan by March 1st. Applications and additional
information are located in the Scholarship Drawer.
The Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) recognizes
outstanding athletes in 12th grade from high schools

Join our Deep Run Team for the Monument Avenue 10K! The race is March 27 th and you will get a Healthy School T-Shirt for signing up for the race at sportsbackers.org. If you need
help training, we are also having a training team which will start January 16 th, you can sign-up in lunches this week. Also, if you have artistic
talent, please enter our t-shirt design contest, all entries are due January 22 nd. Finally, we have a pledge website and are trying to raise $5000 for the Massey Cancer Research Center! We hope you will be a part of Deep Run for the Cure and help all of our past, present, and
future Wildcats who are battling this disease!
GRASP is offering scholarships to seniors who
meet with the GRASP advisor. Applications are due March 15th. Check Scholarship Drawer for

Virginia's Bus Company is offering 5 $2500 scholarships to students
planning to attend Virginia Tech and who have parents or grandparents
who have been or currently are employed within Virginia's pupil transportation community. Must

This message is for all AP math students. Be sure to pick up a permission form from your math teacher for the AP Math Prep Session that will be held at Deep Run on Saturday, Feb.

On Friday, March 12th don't miss it when the boys and girls basketball teams take on the
Faculty at our Faculty/Student Basketball game to support Massey Cancer Center! Tickets are
ONLY $2 and will be on sale during lunches March 8th-March 12th. The game will be during
a Pep Rally Schedule at 2:45 and halftime entertainment will be watching some of your
teachers get pied in the face. Remember every $500 we raise for Massey Cancer Center, we
get to pie a teacher in the face! If we raise $5000, we get to pie Mr. Pritchard in the face!

It's time again to see the men of Deep Run strut their stuff. Mr. Deep Run 2010 will take place this Friday
at 7 p.m. Come "Meet the New 'Cats on the Block." Tickets are one sale
in the mornings in the drama room or at all three lunches. You can also
get tickets from any drama student. Get your tickets early - there may not
be any left to sell at the door!
