CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

FROM OUR PASTOR “You will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden…” Have you ever wondered why Jesus asked for a colt that had never been ridden for his entry into Jerusalem? Wouldn’t it have been safer to take a more experienced animal into the loud and boisterous crowd that was gathering around him? When the gospels offer us such details, there is usually a reason. As people, we put great weight on experience. Frequently it trumps energy, enthusiasm and even learning or education. We often defer tasks to people of more experience, not trusting our own, untried ability. Jesus behaves differently. When the Master has need of us it seems that inexperience is a positive thing. We can be totally green, as green as an unridden colt, and it makes no difference. Christ will still call us and use us when he needs us, then provide what we need to accomplish the task we are given. Will we be as open to his leading us as the colt? This last week of Lent may be a time to take a couple minutes to reflect on our lives. When has God used us, despite our inexperience? How, or in what new ways, might Christ be calling us at the beginning of this holiest week. Is there something we could be doing for the Lord if only we had a bit more experience? Maybe this week, we should try to do it anyway! EASTER EGG HUNT Next Sunday, between Masses, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt taking place on the church lawn. Plan on staying a bit longer to celebrate with our kids… it should be great fun. And some big, white fluffy animal with a cotton tail and long ears is planning to attend. A COUPLE WEEKS LATE FOR THE OSCARS, but an outstanding performance nonetheless, a big “Thank You” to our Jr/Sr high students for their portrayal of the Living Stations today between masses. We appreciate their participation. They were: Narrator: Kate Morelli; Jesus: Dominic Stinedurf; Pilate: Jeremy Groves; Mary: Myrissa Donaldson; Veronica: Charlotte Barton; John: Jacob Rumelfanger; Simon of Cyrene: Michael Morelli; Mary Magdalene: Emily Drda; Women of Jerusalem: Mei Williams, Kayle Paxton, Kambri Adams, Sydney Miller; Roman Soldiers: Bryce Endrizzi, Garret Guth, Jack Pringle, Nolan Songer. CHECK OUT THE INVITATION in the bulletin today to the various liturgies scheduled for the Triduum this week. Note that we will be praying the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. VIADUCT CLOSING Just a reminder that the West Middlesex Viaduct (Rt. 318 West), will be closed to ALL vehicle use beginning Monday, April 2nd. Those living on the west side of the structure will have to plan alternate routes when coming to Mass and/or the rectory. Since Last Weekend our new pledge total is $83,785 toward our overall CSA goal of $106,769. We’ve covered the diocesan assessment of $49,449 with $34,336 left over to address our parish project of $57,320, which is designated to cover the costs of the technology upgrade

WEST MIDDLESEX, PA for all the buildings on our campus. EVERY DOLLAR THAT IS PLEDGED FROM HERE ON IN REMAINS AT GOOD SHEPHERD. Please join in our success if you haven’t made your pledge yet so we can commence the improvements we plan over the summer vacation and have all the classrooms up to snuff when Religious Education classes resume. Letters with pledge envelopes will be sent out in April or you can call the office to make a pledge. Thank you to those who sent or called in their pledge over this past week. Social Hall Committee At a recent Parish Council meeting, we determined the need to update our current procedures for the rental of the newly refurbished Social Hall. Would you be interested in being part of such a group that would help determine rental fees, insurance coverage, oversight and other policies that would allow us to make it available to both parishioners and non-parishioners? Please call Fr. Glenn (528-3539, ext. 11) to signal your interest. Have a good week. Fr. Glenn HOLY THURSDAY MASS & ADORATION – Mass begins at 7:00 pm followed by a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to its repose in the Cry Room, where you are invited to spend time in adoration anytime until 11 pm. GOOD FRIDAY LITURGY begins at 7:00 pm. Our choir will perform a moving presentation of the Passion followed by Veneration of the Cross and Communion. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY is APRIL 8th – Divine Mercy materials including pamphlets for the Divine Mercy Novena, that begins on Good Friday, will be available in the Gathering Space this weekend. Look for the display. 40 CANS for LENT – this is the last week to bring in your non-perishable food items. Place them in the grocery cart in the Gathering Space before Good Friday. WELCOME to recently registered new parishioners. If you have the opportunity to meet any new parishioners or visitors, please welcome them and make them feel at home in our parish: Charles & Carol Baker; Frank & Mary Ann Rocco; Michael Gross all of Hermitage; Margaret Supel & Cindy Supel of Transfer; Sandra Miller and Felicia, Carlos Sofia & Catalina Mendez all of Sharpsville and Diane Revale of Sharon. THANK YOU We want to thank all for the prayers and get well wishes while Gene was in the hospital this winter. A special thanks to Fr. Glenn. Gene & Patricia Schilling BAKERS OF THE PARISH - Missing a favorite baking pan? Please pick up your cake or pie pans from the dishwashing room of the hall kitchen. There are quite a few left from past dinners. The social hall kitchen is open 8 am – 4 pm Monday thru Friday. PAINT & PIZZA WITH AN AUTHOR – Thursday, April 5, 6 – 7:30 pm at St. John Paul II School for Pre-K to 6th graders and parent. A fun-filled evening at no cost! No registration necessary.
