** One lesson has two dialogues/parts. Each dialogue has one vocabulary list. We have a vocabulary quiz for each dialogue and one test for each lesson. Each dialogue has character sheets and workbook assignments to be collected as homework.

Evaluation You will be assessed on the following:

Oral Performances 15%Assignments 20%Quizzes 10%Tests for each lesson 20%Final Exam 15% (70% Written; 30% Oral)Final Project 10%Class Participation & Attendance 10%

Oral Performances: We will have one oral performance for each dialogue; that means, two oral performances for one lesson. You will work together with a partner to come up with a script and perform WITHOUT READING the script in class. Each participant will need to turn in the self-evaluation form as well as the entire written script written by each participant. However, you are not allowed to bring the written script with you when you perform. When you perform, you are allowed to have one 3x5 card to jot down notes for your performance. Some oral performance may be presentational and done without a partner.

Assignments: All homework and assignments should be turned in on time at the beginning of class. Do not use class time to write homework assignments that are supposed to be due at the beginning of class; violation of this rule will require you to redo the entire homework. Turn in after class is considered late. Late homework and assignments will receive a reduced grade. 10% if one day late, 20% if two days late, and so on. The workbook assignments won’t be accepted after it has been graded and returned to students. Homework turned in more than 10 days will receive no credits.

In-class work will be collected and given credit by the instructor. If you miss classes, you will miss credits for the in-class work and cannot be made up unless you are officially excused. Proof of document from the office is needed.

Quizzes: These are quizzes on the vocabulary list from each dialogue, but a sentence from a dialogue will also be included in the quizzes. The lowest score will be dropped.

Tests: We will have a test after learning a lesson (which covers two dialogues).

Final Exam: It will be a comprehensive exam. This final exam has two sections: The Oral Section (30%) and Written Section (70%).

Final Project: Further details on the project will be announced in class.

Grading ScaleWe follow the Bard College (Annandale) grading scale:

A Equivalent to 4.0 or 100-94A- Equivalent to 3.7 or 93-90B+ Equivalent to 3.3 or 89-87B Equivalent to 3.0 or 86-84B- Equivalent to 2.7 or 83-80 C+ Equivalent to 2.3 or 79-77C Equivalent to 2.0 or 76-74C- Equivalent to 1.7 or 73-70D Equivalent 1.0 or 69-60F Equivalent 0 or 59 and below

Expectations and Policies1. Attendance : Attendance is mandatory. You are expected to attend classes on

time. Students who come in late will require to get a late pass from the office. Absences without valid reasons and tardiness will affect your participation grade. Unexcused absences will result in 0 grade for in-class work. Regardless of the reason for your absence, it is the individual student's responsibility to find out the assigned homework for that day. Too many absences may result in a failing grade for this class.

2. Participation : I expect all students to participate in classroom activities. Those who pay attention in class and actively participate in class will do better than those who don’t and will receive a good participation grade. If you miss too many classes, you won’t get a good participation grade.

3. Makeups . Make-up oral performance/quizzes/tests/exam will only be granted for emergencies or extenuating circumstances. If you know you will be absent on a certain date, you should come to see me and make arrangement ahead of time; otherwise, a make-up should be arranged as soon as possible, if you have an excused absence.

4. Academic integrity . All work at BHSEC Cleveland must be original, used for only one class, and be written by the student being given credit. All work must correctly attribute all citations and sources. Failure to adhere to these standards will results in a zero for the assignment. Subsequent instances of plagiarism will result in an automatic “F” in the class. Please refer to the BHSEC Cleveland Student Contract for the full academic honesty policy for additional details.

Please refer to the Expectations and Policies Addendum for more detailed information.
