Data Sharing in GEO Post-2015:Initial thoughts by the DSWG

• Data Sharing remains a fundamental GEO activity

• Expand the usability of Open Data shared through GEOSS, provide value to users

• Link GEO Data Sharing activities with other organizations and initiatives dealing with open data

• Align issues related to Data Sharing & Data Management

• Future governance structure to advance Data Sharing: two options under discussion: Continuation of DSWG or merge DSWG and DMP-TF

• Whatever the governance will be, the current DSWG discussed need for following activities:– Promote open data sharing– Monitor data policy "readiness" and data availability– Analyse impact / benefits > dissemination, advocacy

• Mapping of Data Sets and Policy/Legal Regimes• Analysis of socio-economic benefits of OA data sharing• Analysis of data policy and data sharing in relation to the

upcoming SDGs / SBAs

– Report including through barometer style reports– Continued interest in expanding national coordination

mechanisms > feedback to GEO (requirements)– Refine data sharing implementation guidelines (e.g. on legal

interoperability)
