This two-part video is a corny representation of some very serious consequences of not following safety procedures in the laboratory.

Mess around and I’ll mess you up!

1. I will act responsibly at all times in the laboratory. › No horseplay or

rough housing› Keep voices

down and noise to a minimum

› No “OMG”

2. I will follow all lab safety rules when in the classroom. › Before every experiment,

I will go over lab-specific techniques and procedures to keep you safe.

› Be sure you are attentive during this portion and every portion of the lab.

I’m not touching you… 3. I will follow all oral and written

instructions provided by my teacher and never touch the equipment until instructed to do so.› Lab equipment will often be set up on the

lab counters. You are not to touch them when you enter the room or until instructed to do so.

You’re gonna poke out an eye

4. I will wear my safety goggles when instructed to do so and protective aprons when necessary. › Eye wash stations

5. I will immediately notify the teacher of an emergency. › No matter how small

Cosmetic time-out 6. I will tie back long hair and remove

jewelry while in the laboratory. › Jewelry traps chemicals - I will hold it for

you ;)

What happens in Chemistry…

7. I will not take chemicals or equipment out of the laboratory unless instructed to do so by the teacher.

Dunkin’ Donuts 8. I will never eat or drink in the

laboratory/classroom.

No trespassing 9. I will not enter the chemical storage

room at anytime.

10. I know the locations of the fire extinguisher, fire blanket, and the safety shower/eyewash stations.

Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share

11. I will keep my area in the laboratory clean especially after a laboratory activity. I will completely wipe down the lab station at the end of the activity and dispose of all chemicals as directed.

14. I will never work on a laboratory activity if the teacher is not present in the classroom. This includes after school sessions.
