Dear Members,
June: beginning of summer, longest day of the year, Flag Day, US Open and most importantly Father’s Day! Even though I have been out of school for over 30 years, I still get excited about the end of school and the beginning of summer. You can literally feel it in the air as kids across the country celebrate the end of school with an incredible sigh of relief and the anticipation of what the lazy warm summer days will bring. While kids are sleeping in, the staff here is working away at the club getting everything ready for an incredible summer!
The FORE cover photo this month shows just one of the ‘big boy toys’ that have been all over our course this past month renovating our new greens. If you haven’t been following along on Facebook, make sure to LIKE our page here https://www.facebook.com/rockledgecountryclub/.
Even with the limited play on the course, there is no shortage of golf events. The Memorial Day tournament was a big success with 22 teams.
Congratulations to all of our winners!
1st: Drew and Lloyd Parker 2nd: Van and Roxanne Strickland
3rd: Kathy Shotwell & Diane Riley 4th: Bill and Carol Deneute.
Closest to the pin winners: Ladies: Tina Kurczewski Men’s: Dewayne Barrington.
The 4-day Summer Kid’s Golf Clinics are filling up fast, so be sure to get your kids enrolled soon. You can register on-line at http://rockledgecc.com/jr-programs. Every Saturday at 3PM Jeff Turner is holding a kid’s golf clinic which includes a ½ hour lesson and 9 holes of golf for only $10. This is a perfect opportunity for visiting grandchildren to spend time with you at the club.
Last month we were able to celebrate Mom’s with a beautiful brunch and we aren’t stopping there... a Father’s Day Brunch is planned for all the special men in our lives on Sunday, June 19th. See page 12 for details. Menu and drink specials will be offered for the US Open in addition to our regular Friday night events of Prime Rib, A taste of Italy, Karaoke and Seafood. We have live music every Friday night this month! A fantastic Independence Day Celebration is planned for Friday July 1st. Along with live music and plated BBQ dinner, a cornhole tournament will be held outside. Reservations are open now, so be sure to call and make plans today. All the details are on page 13. Even though the 4th falls on a Monday, we will have

Your patience through our greens project has not gone unnoticed and for that I truly thank you. I wish you all the best in your summer plans. I hope you are able to spend time with family, and enjoy the Florida sunshine.
All my best,

FROM JERRY YEOMANS,
DIRECTOR OF GOLF OPERATIONS
T he greens renovation project is going well and is on schedule. Sod is expected to go down around the first of June. As long as the weather holds up we should be playing on the front nine before the middle of June. The greens on the back were sprayed out on Monday, the 23rd of May. We have also begun a new tee project for the red forward tees. This was a perfect opportunity as we were able to use the spoils from the greens and minimize transport distance. The new tees will be unobtrusive to play from other tees and will be mowed at fairway height. #2 tee will also be getting reworked and made larger. #10 tee will be moving across the ditch at some point so we are building new tees in preparation for that. A lot of exciting things are happening at the club so stay tuned! Yours in Turf,
Jerry Yeomans

Welcome to the hot days of summer!
Here are a few tips to help beat the heat while playing in the summer.
1) Stay hydrated, no matter how much you drink, you can drink more. Stick with water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Alcoholic beverages in the heat can actually worsen the dehydration. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty before drinking water, by then you are already on your way to dehydration and poor physical performance.
2) Wear loose, light colored clothes. Moisture wicking materials are best.
3) Wear a hat. Baseball style hats are good, but wide brim, light material hats are best. Baseball caps can actually raise your temperature by trapping heat if they are too heavy.
4) Eat light, but don’t forget to eat. Maintaining energy while playing is key. Snack bars or fruit are good to have with you on the course.
5) Practice before your round, but don’t overexert yourself with warm up, save your energy for competition.
6) WEAR SUNSCREEN!! SPF 50 is not too much!
Here’s a good rule of thumb for playing in the heat, sunscreen 30 minutes before play, and reapply on the turn. Drink water after every shot, and have a small bite to eat on every tee box.
Good luck and stay healthy out there!
