LogisticsYu Jayne Young (Utah State Office of EducationGe yang xu zhi1PEOPLE TO KNOW FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES COMMUNICATION THINGS TO THINK ABOUT E wai2People to knowIf you have any questions about day to day running of the school, first ask your partner teacher. If you need assistance with materials, with trainings, talking to parents, etc, talk to your principalIf you need clarification on curriculum, any other issues, contact your District specialist/USOE4Partner TeacherYour partner teacher has the answers!

One mistake that teachers make is that they dont communicate as much as they should with their partner teacher80 percent of the time, any questions or concerns that you may have, can be solved by communicating with your partner teacher. Student trouble? She has the answers. Gradebook issues? She has the answers. Crabby parent? She might not have the answers, but she can listen to you complain. Lesson plan ideas? She has a bunch of them. Because most likely, she has had YEAR AND YEARS of experienceDo not be a burden! And if she does not know the answers, SHE WILL KNOW HOW TO FIND IT. 5GRADE LEVEL TEAM Work together!

Another mistake that teachers make is to not work with their grade level team. Most likely, your grade level will have at least two non chinese immersion teachers. That does not mean you dont need to work with them! These teachers are also very experienced and can offer you so many ideas and help you be a better teacher. Dont turn it into our students and their students. Your students will always have the same challenges. Work together! Make sure you know what they are teaching in math, science, social studies! Work together every week and discuss what is challenging your students and ideas to help them. 6principalYour boss. Keep them informed. Communicate!Principals are there to help YOU.They are in charge in your school. They are the ones who will come in to do observations and give you feedback! If any particular issues arise with students, parents, or faculty. Make sure to keep the principal informed. If you feel like you are struggling and would like to visit some classrooms, talk to your principal and they might be able to arrange something. If you are lacking equipment such as tables, paper, etc. Ask! You never know what they can help you with unless you ask. Communicate with your partner teachers. 7DISTRICT SPECIALISTSIt is not a bad thing when they/we coming into your classroom! We want to help!Do not feel like you need to put on a show, just teach like you would as if we were not there. Please try to be flexible and try different methods of teaching! When specialists from your district or from the USOE team is observing in your classroom, it is not because you are in trouble or because you are not doing well. We merely want to check up on all the teachers and make sure they are getting the support they need! Please do not feel like you need to have your students sing a song, or recite a poem, or come up and say hello. We have all been teachers before. We know how cute they are. That is not what we are in the classroom for. We want to see you teach so we can let you know what you are doing well, and what you could work on. Just because we give you some suggestions for change does not mean you are a bad teacher! ALL TEACHERS COULD IMPROVE. It means we think there are some areas that could work better for both you AND your students. Please try it! We have many teachers that just give excuses instead of just trying things a little differently. We are not scary! Please do not take a sick day when you hear we are coming!8USOE TEAMEach of us are over certain districts and we will act as your district specialist/instructional coaches. We provide training during AUDII, and twice more during the school year. If you have any issues that cannot be solved, contact us!Build a community! The school faculty and staff is your work family!Dont just talk to your partner teacher and your grade level team. Talk to the custodians! The lunch ladies! BE ON GOOD TERMS WITH THE SCHOOL SECRETARY. During lunch, its easy to just go to the other chinese teachers to have lunch, but use this time to speak with other faculty members! Create a feeling of community! Get to know everyone! 10communicationPlease check your email DAILYPLEASE RESPOND TO YOUR EMAIL DAILYIf you do not understand the email, or have any questions, STILL RESPOND TO THE EMAIL.

There is nothing more frustrating than teachers not checking their email. We cant tell you how many times we have had teachers asking questions later on that were already answered in the emailBefore sending out any emails to parents or mass emails, go over it with your partner teacher or principal first. 11Faculty responsibilitiesschedulesYearlyMonthlyWeeklyDailyMaster schedulePEComputer labLibraryArtDanceMusicFlex timePLCEvery school has a different schedule. Make sure you have a planner where you can write down anything that is happening. Find out if you have a PE specialist, where to take them to computer lab, what is expected during dance time, is it planning time? Or do you need to conduct it? Some schools will have flex time. Talk to you team about the best way to coordinate that with your classes. My favorite! Check on holidays, student recess days, end of term, etcMake sure you know when grades are due, and ENTER THEM IN WEEKLY!14Daily scheduleDAILY BALANCE

If school starts at 8:35, that does not mean you arrive at school at 8:35. Most schools require you to arrive at least 15-20 minutes before school start time and leave 15-20 minutes after school ends. If you spend your own money, make sure you know how much money you get and how to get reimbursed. Some districts give you cards, some districts just does reimbursement. Dont spend too much money! There are always cheap ways to purchase things!School nurse will have information on each student. What to do in case of anaphylactic shock? See if there is a free area at your school for teachers to donate/pick up items. Can you use food as an incentive16extrasBus dutyRecess dutyLunch dutyFaculty meetingsPLC, MTSSBuilding committeeSocial committeeKnow emergency procedures. We all wish lesson planning and teaching were the only things we are responsible for. But its NOT. Make sure you know when your duties are, otherwise, if something happens, it is your responsibility. Write it in your planner!Plan for the weather! There will be indoor days, but during the winter, more often than not, you will be out in the cold. Plan accordingly. There are always meeting and committees, make sure to do your part! (Committee dues) PLC and MTSS is time for the school to work together!17drillsEarthquake drillFire drillLockdown/locked outEmergency bagsKYFHOOTYKnow your school procedures.Keep some spare bandaids in the classroom so they wont need to run to the office each time.
