The Story

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:105

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 1 John 1:1.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16

The number one best seller of all books in the United States is still the Bible. Americans have more Bibles in their possession than any other country in the world. And yet—the Bible is rarely read in its entirety. It seems to be used more as a reference book, a quote book, or even a misquoted book. Everyone seems to have an opinion about the Bible, but few are Bible scholars. Why? I think that for many it seems too intimidating, confusing in its arrangement, or archaic.

But if we look at what the scripture says about itself, we are handling the gen-uine revelation of who God is, what he thinks about us, and what kind of rela-tionship he desires to have with us. The 2nd Timothy verse above tells us that this entire book called the Bible is highly beneficial for us.

To help us grasp this story of God, we will begin this fall an entire series of messages and studies based on a book called, “The Story.” It is a compilation from the Bible of all the narrative-the story line—of scripture from Genesis to Revelation. Many congregations throughout the United States have praised this series as a tremendous help in really getting a handle on the central theme of scripture, the reason for God’s interaction with people like Noah, Abraham,

Moses, the prophets, and of course the one who is called “The Word,” Jesus. As we learn God’s story, we will better understand our part in His story as we make it our own story.

We plan to have a copy of the book, “The Story” for every family in our congre-gation. We will also provide a children’s version of this book to help our young-sters to be on the same page as we go through the next nine months. The books have been purchased at a very attractive price of only $5.00. We ask you to make a donation of this amount for your book, but we do not want anyone to forgo owning one because of finances. We trust that we will receive enough in donations to offset this expense.

We will begin our new series in September and the book will be available at the church services.

I am looking forward to taking this adventure with you as we learn from “The Story” the reality that encompasses you, me, and God.

We are pleased to announce that

Mark Vander Tuig, LCMC Coordinator,

is going to present a Congregational Workshop

at Lund Lutheran Church September 6th from

10AM to 3:30 PM. We are delighted that he is

willing to invest his time and talent in helping us to

grasp the significance of being Disciples of Jesus in

the 21st Century. The title of his seminar is “From

Membership to Discipleship.” All are welcome to

attend. There is no registration fee, but a free will

offering will be received to offset the day expenses.

Absent: Pastor Jim Osvold, Sharon Westerholm, and Lynda Hultin.

Guest: Pam Ross (Lund Lutheran Church Secretary)

Meeting called to order by President, Robin Turnwall.

Devotions were given by Robin Turnwall.

Agenda of the meeting was approved with several additions.

Motion/Second, Myra E/Tom A. to approve the Council meeting minutes from

July 10, 2014. Passed.

Motion/Second Donna H/Russell O. to approve and accept the Financial Sec.

and the Treasurer report as of July 31, 2014. Passed.

Committee reports: Education (Rally Sunday will be Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014

with a pot luck dinner to follow). Invitation Committee working on LCMC

gathering for Sept 6, 2014

Next Meeting will be Sept 4, 2014 @ 7:00 P.M.

Hello Everyone, Mini Mouse here.

My cousin Mousey is on vacation and asked

me to write something for your newsletter. I

have been visiting all summer and cannot

believe all the things that go on around

here, the special music and the FOOD is

wonderful!

There are so many things happening this fall. September 6th, Mark Vander Tuig is

going be at Lund for a congregational workshop . Sunday, September 7th we go

back to the 9:45 am service, and it is Rally Day with pot luck after the service. On

Sunday, September 14th Sunday School for children and adults starts at 8:30 am and worship at 9:45 am. This year we are studying the book “The Story.” Each

family in the congregation will have a copy of the book; the Sunday school children and Youth will also study a version of the “The Story”. On Wednesday, September

17th at 6:00 pm is Youth Information & Orientation Night. And Youth Night starts Wednesday, September 24th, 6:00 pm supper (yum : ) and discussion from

6:30—8 PM.

Mousey should be back next month, til we meet again,
