PREFACE

This publication includes physical data (population, education and welfare, infrastructure, etc.) and financial data (budget implementation) on local authorities in Israel in 2016.

The information included in this publication is intended to assist local authorities, central and local administrators and planners, and researchers in their work on issues related to local government in Israel.

The data on all aspects of each local authority are presented in a consolidated form, in order to provide a concise profile of the local authority. In addition, comparative data on the various local authorities are presented.

The data are published on the website of the Central Bureau of Statistics, and enable comparative statistical analyses of authorities as well as comprehensive research on any authority as needed.

In this year's publication the peripherality index was updated to 2015 (the previous index was for 2004), and data were added on area and population density, as well as on other income in the extraordinary budget, additional municipal taxes, and expenditure per capita in the ordinary budget. The urban fabric maps in the profiles of the authorities were replaced this year with land use maps, in which location of the Authority was marked on a map of the State of Israel ("orientation map").

The publication was prepared at the Well-Being and Sustainability Indicators, and Cross-Sectional Products Sector of the Media Relations and Communications Department, Central Bureau of Statistics.
