Hand Sewing

Equipment and Notions

Spool of Thread

A long, thin strand of cotton, nylon, or other fibers used in sewing or weaving.

Hand Sewing Needle

Eye of the needle

Used for hand sewing material.

Thimble

Used to push a needle through fabric.

Straight Pins

Used to anchor patterns to fabric or hold layers of fabric together.

Pin Cushion

Used to hold pins.

Buttons

4 Hole

2 Hole

A small disk sewn on to a garment, either to fasten it by being pushed through a slit or for decoration.

Cutting Equipment

Scissors and ShearsScissors and shears are two distinct

cutting tools used for different applications. Scissors: Multi purpose. To cut paper, threads,

and scraps.

Shears: To cut fabric. Other materials will dull the blade.

MeasuringEquipment

Tape Measure

A flexible ruler used to take body measurements and measure fabric.
