MERGER OF THE PARISHES

OF SAINT GERTRUDE AND SAINT

DAMIEN OF MOLOKAI, IN WINDSOR

On October 19, 2020, the Parish of Saint Gertrude, in

Windsor, and the Parish of Saint Damien of Molokai, in

Windsor, will be merged in accordance with canons 121 &

515 §2, forming one new Parish that will be known as the

“Parish of Saint Damien of Molokai.” Saint Gertrude Parish

will cease to exist as a separate juridic entity. On September

30, 2020, Archbishop Leonard P. Blair issued a decree

creating the merger according to the provisions of Church

law. Saint Gertrude Church building will remain as a sacred

place of worship at present.

The substance of the decree is to be communicated to

parishioners at the aforementioned parish, including the

display in appropriate places so that parishioners can read it as

they enter or exit the churches. It will also be available on the

website, http://www.stewardsfortomorrow.org/. Canonical

recourse may be made within the peremptory time limit of ten

(10) days from the legitimate notification of the decree and in

accordance with the norm of law (c. 1734 §2).

Hospitality Ministry Volunteers Needed!

Hospitality Ministry is looking for

parishioners to participate in an important

ministry role in welcoming visitors and parishioners

to our Masses at St. Damien of Molokai.

If you’re asking yourself “how can I help or get involved in

our Parish,” the Hospitality ministry could be your calling.

The ministry assists in seating people at Masses, helping

with emergency situations and serving in the initial points

of contact for questions. If interested, please contact the

Rectory at 860-688-4905.

Human Trafficking and COVID 19:

A Dangerous Combination

October 15, 2020 7:00 pm 8:00 pm

The novel coronavirus pandemic has impacted nearly every

aspect of society. In particular, it has aided in the rise of sex

trafficking on national and global levels. Victims are being

exploited through the internet, gaming platforms, web cams,

and chat rooms. This webinar is designed to educate on what

is happening in CT and what can be done to protect our

children.

We are so pleased to have Tammy M. Sneed, the Director of

Connecticut’s Human Antitrafficking Response Team for DCF,

present insights on how the pandemic is affecting vulnerable

children and youth in CT and the nation. Annmarie Boulay,

director of The Underground, will share some of the

challenges faced by survivors and how the Underground is

assisting them during this time.Join us on October 15

The Pet Blessing last Saturday was well attended as you can see.

Theblessingof each animal, by name, means that health, healing

and life are being mediated from God for the benefit of the

animal in its relationship with its human partners. Thank you

Deacon Carl and all who attended once again.

The hard thing about a hardening heart is recognizing it so you can (with

the grace of God) reverse course. And sometimes I recognize this in

myself and I just don’t want to turn things around. I want to wallow in my

grumpiness and judgement.

That right there, that statement is why you can’t do it alone. We need

God’s grace to do the hard things. You may not know or recognize it as

grace, but it’s there.

And that little reminder, I hope is enough to send up a little prayer, “God

change my heart. Mary pray for me.” Ask for help, lean on God’s grace for

assistance and start taking a little action even if your heart isn’t in it yet.

**Seating at Weekend Masses

The seating arrangement for all Masses is carefully planned to allow

required social distancing practices and safety of all parishioners.

Again, for your safety and the safety of all attending Masses,

parishioners must sit in their assigned seats for that Mass. Moving

your seat without the approval from the Hospitality Team disrupts

social distancing practices and jeopardizes the safety of everyone

including yourself. Please call the Parish Office should you have

concerns.

Online Mass reservations are accepted each week from **

Sunday through Wednesday for the coming weekend.

Phone reservations are only accepted between 9am and

noon each Tuesday. Please call the Parish Office at 860-

688-4905.

*A new reservation must be submitted for each Mass

that you wish to attend each weekend.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY

MOMENTS

Respond with Love

Do you remember a time when you spent much time or money

on a surprise or gift for someone else and they failed to

appreciate it? We do open ourselves up to disappointment if

our expectations do not match the response. Perhaps we

reached down deep to share a part of ourselves only to

encounter apathy and insensitivity. That can hurt even if the

person ignoring our gesture meant no ill will toward us.

What must God feel like when we fail to respond to what He has

done for us. We probably do not purposefully slight God, but

perhaps we are so busy and mindless that it becomes

impossible to be responsive and mindful. We can miss the gift

of God which is right before our eyes.

It is very difficult to be a good steward if we do not intentionally

choose to be mindful. We miss the important stuff in life, and

we neglect those placed in our path as gifts to enrich our lives. If

we are to live as Jesus asks, we must work on focusing our eyes

of faith on the things that matter and the gifts we have been

given. If we are made in the image of God, I suppose we can

guess how God might feel when His gifts are not acknowledged,

or His love not returned. If I reflect on the One who loves me

more than anyone, how can I choose to not offer my love in

return?

The Kid Connection

Today we celebrate The 28

th

Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today’s Gospel reading is from the holy Gospel according to Matthew,

chapter 22, verses 1 - 14. Read this aloud with your parents, then talk

with them about the reading.

In today’s Gospel Jesus tells a parable about the kingdom of

heaven. He tells the parable to the religious leaders - people

who were pretty sure that they were chosen by God for

salvation.

In the parable, some people accept the invitation, and

some people refuse it.

Jesus tells the parable to teach us about being invited to

be his disciple.

Jesus invites everyone to be his disciple. Some people accept his

invitation, and some people refuse it.

In the parable, who finally got to enjoy the wedding feast?

Were you surprised by this?

Do you think the religious leaders who heard the parable were surprised?

Jesus invites us to be his disciple. When we say yes to his invitation, he

offers us life with God forever!

God invites us to say ‘yes’ to his invitation of salvation, but we need to respond

by changing our lives and to follow Jesus to God the Father. We can pray to

Jesus to ask for his help!
