PORTRAITS BY JAMIE FISHER ON EXHIBIT AT ARTE ˇ L’S NEW GALLERY SPACE PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC As anyone familiar with ARTE ˇ L knows, the materials created by graphic designer Jamie Fisher consistently reflect the world-class standards the firm applies in producing its luxury crystal glassware. What is less generally well known (at least for now) is that Fisher’s creative talent extends far beyond commercial graphic design and firmly into the realm of fine art. Ample evidence of this talent can be seen at an upcoming solo exhibition of Fisher’s artwork, entitled Acting Without Acting, on view from May 21 - July 2 in the downstairs gallery space of ARTE ˇ L’s newest retail showroom at Platnér ˇská 7. An opening reception for the artist will be held on May 21 from 18:00 - 21:00. The show features a series of finely detailed portraits – primarily depicting elderly men – executed in oil on board. Ranging from animated to nearly expressionless, each remarkably lifelike image offers intriguing visual clues about the personality of its subject. Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Fisher attended a fine arts school from grade 1-12; she holds degrees in Illustration and Design from Dawson College and Fine Arts from Teesside University at Prague College. She joined ARTE ˇ L as a graphic designer in 2010, has shown her portraits in two previous solo exhibitions in Prague, and has also illustrated two children’s travel books. “I’ve always been interested in portraiture,” says Fisher, “but it wasn’t until my final year of art school that I began to focus on the genre seriously. I especially enjoy trying to capture the subtle hints of expression in a face, without trying to impose any particular emotion onto the subject.” For more information about Acting Without Acting – and all upcoming exhibitions in the new gallery space – contact [email protected]. Established in 1998 by American designer and entrepreneur Karen Feldman, ARTE ˇ L specializes in handcrafted, functional crystal glassware of high design. The company takes its name from an early-20th-century collective of Czech artisans whose dedication to preserving the traditional methods of handcraftsmanship led them to reject industrial production techniques. ARTE ˇ L carries on the spirit of these artisans and their commitment to producing – entirely by hand – lasting objects of impeccable quality, design, and functionality. ARTE ˇ L’s innovative product line can be found on the shelves of Asprey, Paul Smith and Christian Dior, among other exclusive retailers. P R A G U E , C Z E C H R E P U B L I C — As anyone familiar with ARTEL knows, the materials created by graphic designer Jamie Fisher consistently reflect the world-class standards the firm applies in producing its luxury crystal glassware. What is less generally well known (at least for now) is that Fisher’s creative talent extends far beyond commercial graphic design and firmly into the realm of fine art.

Ample evidence of this talent can be seen at an upcoming solo exhibition of Fisher’s artwork, entitled Acting Without Acting, on view from May 21 - July 2 in the downstairs gallery space of ARTEL’s newest retail showroom at Platnérská 7.

She joined ARTEL as a graphic designer in 2010, has shown her portraits in two previous solo exhibitions in Prague, and has also illustrated two children’s travel books.

“I’ve always been interested in portraiture,” says Fisher, “but it wasn’t until my final year of art school that I began to focus on the genre seriously. I especially enjoy trying to capture the subtle hints of expression in a face, without trying to impose any particular emotion onto the subject.”
