ACT 2 SCENE 1 QUESTIONS1. What more do learn about Banquo in this

scene? Do you think that he is getting as obsessed with his prophecies as Macbeth is about his? Why or Why not?

2. In Macbeth’s conversations with Banquo, what does Macbeth hope to accomplish? How successful do you think he is?

3. In Macbeth’s soliloquy, do you believe that he is losing his mind, or not? If he is becoming insane, why would that occur now? If he is sane, then how can we explain the visions that are appearing before him?

ACT 2 SCENE 21. Lady Macbeth doesn’t deliver that fatal blow to

Duncan. She gives an explanation at the beginning of the scene: why does she claim she didn’t kill him? Do you believe her?

2. Focus on Lady Macbeth’s words throughout her conversation with Macbeth. List her priorities—what are the things she wants Macbeth to explain, and what are the actions she wants taken?

3. Why is Macbeth so concerned with the words and prayers he hears? What is happening to him?

4. Lady Macbeth thinks a little water will “clear them of this deed.” What does she mean by that? Macbeth, when she is gone, thinks of his hand making the entire ocean red…Why does he think this?
