Litchfield Jazz Camp is a special place focused on musical and personal growth. There you’ll learn from the greats on our staff and each other. Dedicated to music at the
highest level in a noncompetitive atmosphere, the program embraces all learning styles. There is no pre-audition. We listen to you when you arrive and place you in a combo at
your level. Need-based scholarships may be available.
Our PhilOsOPhy
Litchfield Jazz Camp is hosted at Canterbury School, a boarding and day school in New Milford, CT. On a breathtaking site an hour-and-a-half from NYC, it is convenient to mass transit and three airports. Historic New Milford Center with its restaurants, galleries,and shops is a great place to visit on registration Sundays. Residential Life Assistants live in
each dorm and are available evenings and weekends or whenever a student needs them. The Camp is licensed by the CT Department of Health. It has a resident nurse, an on-call
physician, a relationship with a nearby hospital, and CPR certified staff.

Don Braden, Music Director, and his staff of A-list instructors guidestudents through performance, improv, theory, composition, jazz history and
master classes. There are talks on the business of music, money management, nutrition, fitness and more. Electives include big bands, ear training, sight
reading, Latin percussion, songwriting, basic piano, how to pick the right college, and a host of fitness options. Private lessons are available.

Performance opportunities abound! Our all-star faculty gives fabulous concerts every weeknight. Parents, guests and campers attend free. Student jams follow,
and student concerts wrap up each camp session. Camp concludes after 4 weeks with the renowned Litchfield Jazz Festival.
COnCerts & Jams
The physical demands of jazz and life—and the rigors of the road for pros—calls for a unique degree of fitness. The Camp has excellent facilities for
swimming, yoga, running with marathoners, soccer, basketball and more.

Students and families look forward to College Night during the 3rd week of Camp. Representatives from outstanding music colleges and universities present a panel on courses, costs, scholarships, and more. A College Fair
follows where Campers can speak directly with college reps.
COllege night
Students are ages 12 to adult, with most in their mid-teens. They come from 70+ Connecticut towns and cities, over half the states in the US and 20 foreign countries. Some
70-150 students attend each week. Instrumentalists and vocalists are both welcome. Former LJC students have gone on to earn college scholarships, awards and appearances- including the Monk and Sarah Vaughn Competitions, DownBeat Critics Polls, Betty Carter’s
Jazz Ahead, International Women in Jazz, clubs like New York’s Jazz Standard, Smoke, Smalls, Blue Note, Vanguard, Birdland, and Festivals around the world. You can do it too!

Our stellar and caring faculty are on the jazz map for their performances and critically acclaimed recordings. They have teaching posts at Columbia University, Williams College, The New School, Amherst College, Manhattan School of Music, Jazz at Lincoln Center and many more. They are Critics Poll winners, icons in their
own right and appear with others like Eddie Palmieri, Michael Bublé, and Cindy Blackman to name a few.

The 22nd Annual Litchfield Jazz Festival caps the Litchfield JazzCamp experience. Held August 5 &6 at Goshen Fairgrounds, the Festival
draws the best names in jazz. Past performers include Sonny Rollins, Dave Brubeck, Wayne Shorter, Robert Glasper, Wycliffe Gordon, Brad Mehldau, Diana Krall and Cécile McLorin Salvant. Sunday, August 6, kicks off with our second annual Jazz Brunch for the benefit of Litchfield Jazz Camp
Scholarships. Campers attend Festival performances and Artist Talks and, best of all, play on Stage II. They have the chance to meet Festival Stars,
collect autographs and enjoy all the fun the Fest has to offer.
OUR former campers have placed in the Monk Competition, played in Grammy Jazz Ensembles, formed their own bands, and gone on to play with greats like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Christian Scott, Pat Metheny, Cindy Blackman,
Eddie Palmieri, Cyrus Chestnut, Alicia Keys and Macklemore. JOIN THEM!

NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS
Partial or full scholarship support may be available for middle and highschool students based on documented financial need. CT residents are given priority. Required for application: Pages 1 & 2 of Tax Form 1040 (most recent year) and a $100 non-refundable deposit.
DEADLINE: April 1, 2017
NOTIFICATION: On or about June 4th 2017. You may log into your online account to check scholarship status.
TUITION & FEES
Camp fees include classes, room and board (Sun-Thurs) forresidential students (day students receive three meals aday), one camp t-shirt, plus admission to and performance atLitchfield Jazz Festival. Early registration, multi-week, group, and sibling discounts are available. A $350 non-refundable deposit is due with registration and is applied to the final balance.
For multi-week registrants, intersession weekend meals andovernights are included. For session 4, there is an upchargeof $100 to cover festival meals, transportation to and fromthe festival and festival weekend rooming.
