Transport and travel is a central feature of how we live and do business

Average distances travelled per person per year have increased by 43% between 1986 and 2003, primarily driven by car travel

Car ownership forecast to grow more than 30% between 2001 and 2021 Total Road Traffic is forecast to grow 22% between 2002 and 2011 Air travel is forecast to grow 30% between 2004 and 2011 and 150% by

2030 There were 465 million bus passenger journeys in 2004/5 and 73 million

rail passenger journeys In 2003/4 freight lifted in Scotland totalled 219 million tonnes 14% of UK retail sales will be online by 2014

Consultation Themes Transport is about providing real options for

people getting to work, children travelling to school and businesses transporting goods

We are looking at ways to cut journey times, tackle congestion, provide attractive alternatives to the car, improve links between cities as well as from outer estates, at the same time as looking at ways of minimising environmental impact
