Thursday 10th November 2016 Word of the Month - Tolerance
Dear Parents and Carers,
HeadteacherMrs. L. CullodenDeputy HeadteacherMr. A. DigbyAssistant HeadteacherMrs .D. Fulk
The Carfield Spotacular! To raise money for Children In Need on Friday 18th November, we are dressing up in anything spotty, wearing spots on our faces…and anywhere else really! We will have a fun day and we ask children to donate what they can, we are suggesting a pound.
HomeworkNo one likes homework, least of all parents! We understand from our own experience that it can feel like a battle, but please can we urge you to support the following?Learning the times tables is crucial. Without quick recall, children can be hindered in their learning both in primary and in the secondary phase. It cannot be left to Y6 and Y7. It starts in Y2!Spellings can be a slog, but it is a worthwhile skill if the spelling lists sent home can be learned and finally please try to read regularly with your child and complete the Reading Diary. In discussions with teachers, we have a worrying number of children who are not supported at home with these weekly tasks. We factor time to teach these skills in lessons but they are also needed to be practiced at home to be truly learned and recalled easily.
Lottery Bid Successful
We are very happy to have secured funding to develop a play area in the middle playground for our Y1 and Y2 children. We have long wanted to brighten and soften this area and to provide something fun for the children. Our bid for Lottery Funding paid for all of this so we can continue to use the funds from our Carfield Friends fund raising for additional developments such as the wall murel with the Sheffield artist Faunagraphic.
Thanks also to the volunteers who have cleared the flower beds in the Upper Play area. It looks so much neater.
Y5 PlanetariumLast week the Y5 children were treated to a virtual tour of the universe in the space dome. It is a great introduction to the topic. The children made lots of notes and enjoyed asking some very good questions to the Astronomers in the Q and A session.Y3 Wildlife SafariThe Y3 children walked miles around the Yorkshire Wildlife Park as part of their study of predators this term. They will also experience “Meet a Creature” in a couple of weeks time.
The Y5 children have begun practising their songs for their performance this year.Dates are Wednesday 30th November at 2pm and Thursday 1st December at 2pm and 7pm.Information on tickets will be available soon.

OFSTED Report
The Lead Inspector has sent me the draft report to check. This I have done and the report should be live within the week for all to view. We will put a link to it on our website and send you a text.
Y1 ChangesMany thanks to our Y1 team who are putting in extra hours to revamp their environments and provision for our pupils. We are a pilot group with the Sheffield Early Years Team to introduce new ideas to complement our own best practice. The team are very committed to ensuring that our children receive the best and we are grateful that they are going the extra mile for our children.
Miss Kelly UpdateWe are hopeful that Miss. Kelly will be returning to us on a Phased Return during December. We will let you know more as we work out the details. Until she is completely fit to work, Miss Clayton has agreed to provide continuity for the class. We are very fortunate to have her and she has been invaluable to us.A letter re arranging next week’s Parent Evening with the Doves class will be sent next week.
