SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"He summoned the Twelve and
began to send them out two by two."
This Sunday we read the first
sending of the Apostles to preach,
teach, and heal. For many of us, it
can be easy to think we "just don't
have enough" to be disciples and
evangelists ourselves. We don't have enough education
and training. We don't have enough experience talking
to people about Jesus. We don't pray enough. We don't
have enough faith.
If you look at the Apostles in today's Gospel reading,
they didn't have much either. "No food, no sack, no
money in their belts." They didn't plan out their itiner-
ary or book their lodging in advance. From what we
know of the Apostles, they were not the religiously
trained and educated ones. They were fisherman, tax
collectors, and political activists. But what does being a
fisherman require? Someone like Peter needed a strong
work ethic to rise at strange hours. He needed patient
calm to wait for the catch. Once ashore, he needed a
savvy mind to fetch a good price for his labors.
As Peter became a fisher of men, he would need dili-
gence to persevere through the hard journeys, long
days, and persecution that awaited him. He would need
patient calm with those who disagreed with him. As the
leader of the Apostles, he would need a savvy mind to
navigate challenges facing the early Church. From one
perspective, Peter has nothing to offer the mission of
Jesus. Thinking more creatively, one can see that --
joined with faith and love -- perhaps Peter had every-
thing he needed.
Jesus sends you as well. As you take stock of your own
talents, consider how they might be offered as a gift to
others. Maybe you already have more than enough.

dignity through fair access for all to economic opportunity,
housing, education, and employment.
We pray to you, O Lord, that we may have eyes to see
what is possible when we reach out beyond fear, beyond
anger, to hold the hand of our sisters, our brothers.
We thank you, O Lord, for your call and challenge to us
that we may reveal your teachings and your love through
our actions to end racism and to proclaim that we are all
your children, heirs to your sacred creation.

If you’re not moving forward in your spiritual life, you’re falling back. I know this first hand. If I don’t take
strides every single day to get closer to Christ, I immediately feel myself falling back.If you’re not ac�vely par
�cipa�ng on Christ’s side of this ba�le, you’re naturally going to waver to the enemy’s side.
But, don’t go into this ba�le unprotected. Spend �me with the Word of God in Sacred Scripture. Seek divine
protec�on in the sacraments and in your own personal prayer. Let the Lord be the source of your strength as
well as your refuge. You’ll be well armed and well guarded if you allow what you know and what you believe to
change the way you live.
I encourage each and every one of you to fight! Christ has already won the war, but the ba�le for our souls rag
es on.
I believe that the ba�le cry for those on the side of Christ is St. John Paul the Great’s famous last word,
“Amen,” which means, “I do believe.”
Do you believe in Christ, His Church, and His fervent desire to have you in heaven with Him for all eternity?
Well then, my friend, act like it.

El llamado es esencial, la misión es
urgente. Incluso debemos ir ligeros de
carga, lo más livianos posible.
El mismo Jesús da una lista de las cosas
necesarias. "Les ordenó que no llevaran
nada para el camino, fuera de un bastón ni pan, ni morral, ni
dinero; que llevaran calzado corriente y un solo manto".
(Mc. 6:8-9). ¡Qué barbaridad, diríamos ahora, por tan pocas
cosas! La sociedad de hoy obliga, sobre todo a los
jóvenes, a obtener cosas innecesarias para cualquier viaje.
Cargan tanto, que hasta se lastiman el cuerpo, llegan al
mal humor y, al final, descubren que no necesitaban tanto.
Para ser feliz se necesita poco y se requiere abrir el corazón
a las necesidades de los demás.
Si cargamos poco podemos admirar lo que existe alrededor,
ayudar a los necesitados, descansar y realizar la misión que
Jesús nos ha encomendado. Las personas lo experimentan
cuando reciben una llamada por teléfono, si es urgente
responden de inmediato. Escuchan y actúan. De igual
manera, los discípulos que Jesús envió actuaron como si
hubieran recibido una llamada urgente. ¿Cómo respondes
al llamado urgente de Jesús de ayudar al necesitado? ¿Te
haces el que no escucha y sigues sin actuar? El Evangelio
es de gran ayuda para dos cosas. Primero, para escuchar que
Jesús nos envía a cumplir una misión. Segundo, para que
nos demos cuenta de que es urgente. Tan urgente es, que
no necesitamos mucho para ir. Basta con tener un buen
espíritu, y donde no reciban al enviado, hay que sacudirse
el polvo de los zapatos y seguir adelante. ¡Así de sencillo

Apostólico del Vaticano, el Papa
Francisco presidió el rezo del
Ángelus y afirmó que la muerte a la
que hay que temer es “la del
corazón endurecido por el mal”.
El Papa comentó el Evangelio que narra la curación de la hija de
Jairo que resucita después de que Jesús le ordena: "‘¡Levántate!’
y la curación de una mujer que sufría hemorragias y se cura al
tocar el manto de Jesús”.
Pero a su vez advirtió de “la muerte de la que hay que tener
miedo: la del corazón endurecido por el mal”. “Incluso si
hemos caído en lo bajo, su voz tierna y fuerte nos dice:
‘¡Álzate!’”, reconoció.
Francisco explicó que son dos relatos “con un único centro: la
fe, y muestran a Jesús como fuente de vida, como Aquél que
vuelve a dar la vida a quien confía plenamente en Él”.
“Los dos protagonistas, es decir, el padre de la niña y la mujer
enferma, no son discípulos de Jesús y sin embargo son escu-
chados por su fe”.
Francisco señaló que “de este comprendemos que en el camino
del Señor están admitidos todos: ninguno debe sentirse un
intruso, un abusivo o uno que no tiene derechos. Para tener
acceso a su corazón hay un solo requisito: sentirse necesitado
de curarse y confiarse a Él”.
“Jesús va a descubrir a estas personas entre la muchedumbre y
les quita el anonimato, los libera del miedo de vivir. Lo hace
con una mirada y con una palabra que los pone de nuevo en
camino después de tantos sufrimientos y humillaciones”.
El Obispo de Roma explicó que “estamos llamados a aprender
y a imitar estas palabras que liberan y estas miradas que
restituyen, a quien no tiene, las ganas de vivir”.
“Jesús es el Señor, delante a Él la muerte física es como un
sueño: no hay motivo para desesperarse”, añadió.
