Introduction of the Telephone
Telephone- an instrument which converts sound (human voice) to electrical impulses of various frequencies and then back to a tone that sound like the original voice
The first words uttered on the telephone were, “Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you!”
Before people relied on mail and the telephone kept families connected over long distances. It also made businesses more efficient and instant communication around the world
The telephone was made from the study of electricity & acoustics and as a direct attempt to improve the telegraph
The telephone has advanced and developed over many years till today!

March 10, 1876 The first telephone was created by
Alexander Graham Bell The first form of communication, the
telegraph, was limited t receiving and sending one message at a time with its dot-and dash Morse code
Bell offered his own harmonic approach as a practical solution to a multiple telegraph
The “harmonic telegraph was based on the idea that several notes could be sent simultaneously along the same wire if they differed in pitch
He wanted to further the telegraph by creating a device that could transmit speech electrically(telephone)
After building a working transmitter with a membrane capable of varying electronic currents and a receiver that would reproduce the variations in audible frequencies, the telephone was complete !

January 25, 1915
Theordore N. Vail, the president of American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T) participated in the first transcontinental telephone call.
The telephone line stretched between New York and San Francisco, crossing 13 states
Fur copper wires were used as the means to transmit the telephone signal, which was held up by 130,000 wood poles
This grand ceremonial 4-way call was between Jekyll Island, Washington D.C., New York, and San Francisco
This transcontinental ability of telephones allows people to communicate with people across the state

Dual-tone Multi-frequency(DTMF)
In 1963, phones were created with DTMF, which stands for dual-tone multi-frequency, and it is a communication device that makes use of telephone switching
These phones were referred to as touch –tone telephones and they replaced the earlier pulse style of switching that was common with rotary dial pones
DTMF phones introduced the simple keypad, which made it possible to switch calls more efficiently
This advancement allowed businesses to provide enhanced customer service and banks could set up direct access to current balances, latest activity, and pending deposits

April 3, 1973 The first phone call was
made from a portable cellular phone by Martin Cooper
This cell phone was created by Motorola and weighed 2 lbs and cost $3,995
It only offered a half-hour of talk time for every recharging
AT&T introduced the idea of a portable device in 1947 with the police car phone
It was not till 10 years later and $100 million in development till the cell phone officially hit the market
