/ Troy Von Balthazar,before working solo as TvB, became famous in the 90’s as the singer and songwriter of L.A./Hawaii cult band Chokebore . They toured all around the world, including 10 shows supporting Nirvana on their final tour, and released 5 LPs, landmarks in independant rock ‘s history.

By the way, TvB was born in Hawaii and used to be a skateboarder, but now lives between California and Berlin, where you could see him ride his bike, en danseuse.

Troy Von Balthazar ’s 4 th s tudio

album was recorded in Berlin and

the South of France.

He used a combination of an old Tascam

388, tape machine and Protools, a

bunch of amazing guitar pedals, and

vintage microphones.

It’s lo-fi songwriting and recording at

it’s best, stream of consciousness music

structures and powerful lyrics.

The songs create a very distinct atmos-

phere that is really “The TvB sound”.

2005, Troy von Balthazar, 1st album solo. Recorded in the Elliott Smith studio in Los Angeles whereas some of the songs were written while staying at Leonard Cohen’s home. At this time, TvB was one of the first, with Joseph Arthur and Owen Palett, to use loop pedals on stage.

2010, How To Live on Nothing. Album more full, less lo-fi, as he was moving from town to town, Honolulu, Paris, floating studios in Berlin, L. A., Montreal, as well as his own car back in L.A.

2012, ... is with the Demon. Deep electric dark lullabies, keyboards and plenty of whispered words. Intense lyrics in a bed of wonderful sound. Very sweet songs – and also very sour.

This year, Troy Von Balthazar teamed up with Jason Lytle (formerly Grandaddy), Kenneth Stringfellow (The Posies, R.E.M., Mercury Rev) and 11 chamber orchestra musicians to perform a tribute to Elliott Smith.

The Color Bar Experience plays Elliott Smiths full Figure 8 album with full orchestra and voices. Shows scheduled for December in France.
