WARHAMMER FANTASY WARBANDS RULES RECAP

OVERVIEW • The rules for doing battle with Warbands are exactly the same as those for playing standard games of Warhammer. Units

fight in formation; ranks, standards, flanks, and so on count toward combat resolution; and only units with the Skirmish rule may adopt a skirmish formation.

• The only differences, beyond specific scenario rules, are in the minimum sizes for each unit and the selection of your troops and characters. Once Warbands have been assembled per the Warband composition rules, play progresses exactly as it does in a standard game of Warhammer.

• Create a 500 Pt Warband. • Warbands must include at least two Core Units. • Core units that do not count toward the minimum number of Core units in the regular army list (e.g., Warhounds in a Chaos

army or Huntsmen in an Empire army) do not count toward the minimum two Core selections for a Warband. Of course, these units can still be included in a Warband; they simply don’t count toward the minimum Core units required.

• Warbands may not include more than 10 units.

UNIT SIZES AND OPTIONS The minimum unit sizes in a Warband are smaller than those in a standard Warhammer army to reflect both the small size of the force and the Warband’s tactical flexibility. See the Warband Unit Size Table below.

Base Size of Models in Unit Minimum Unit Size (Not Unit Strength) 20 x 20 mm 3 models 25 x 25 mm 3 models 25 x 50 mm 2 models 40 x 40 mm or larger 1 model

• No Warband regiment may take any unit options, other than weapon and armor upgrades, unless the regiment meets its normal unit minimum listed in the Army book. When the unit meets its regular unit minimum listed in the Army book can it take normally available options such as:

o Command models o Magic standards o Upgrades in status such as those that promote Orcs to Big’Uns, Glade Guard to Scouts, or Chaos units to a Mark of

Chaos other than Undivided, and the like.

Exceptions to these restrictions can be found in Army-Specific Rules.

Page 3: :: … · (Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings armies, which normally require a ... • The rulings of the current GW 7th Edition Fantasy FAQ will be used

• Warbands may include up to one Special and up to one Rare choice. However, if the player does not select a Rare choice, he may select an additional Special choice instead.

• Warbands may include 0-2 Hero-level characters, though their combined points cost (including all equipment, upgrades, abilities, mounts and the like) may not exceed 150 points. Warbands may never include Lord-level characters. Warbands may not include special/named characters.

• Warbands must include one Commander model. This model can be either a Hero-level (see above for restrictions) or a Unit Champion. If a Unit Champion is selected as the Commander, he must remain with his unit at all times. The Commander functions as the Warband’s General in all respects. (Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings armies, which normally require a spellcaster of some sort to animate the Undead, need not include such a model in a Warband. Assume that the Undead have been animated by some spellcaster near the battlefield. See Army-Specific Rules for more details.)

• Warbands may include 0-1 war machine or 0-1 Chariot. (Note that this rule applies even when the Army book allows more than one such item per selection. For instance, 1-2 Repeating Bolt Throwers normally count as only 1 Rare Unit choice. However, a Dark Elf Warband could include only one Repeating Bolt Thrower.)

• Warbands may include one flying unit or one flying creature (this includes a flying mount for a hero-level character). • Warbands must obey the army list restrictions placed on the maximum number of certain unit types (e.g., Vampire Counts

Warbands may include 0-1 Bat Swarm, and Empire Warbands may include 0-1 unit of Huntsmen). • No single model can cost more than 150 pts.

MODEL USE AND CONVERSION • All models must be painted to the three color minimum standard. Whenever possible, your models should reflect

WYSIWYG. Difficult or confusing model use may result in a penalty to Composition and Sportsmanship. • The rulings of the current GW 7th Edition Fantasy FAQ will be used. Other Tournament-Specific Rulings are available in the

AdeptiCon Fantasy FAQ. • You must provide a PRINTED copy of your Warband list to each opponent AFTER your game. You must also provide a copy

to the judges at registration.

THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE!

HAVE FUN!

WARHAMMER FANTASY WARBANDS (MIDDAY)

SCENARIO 1: ESPIONAGE *** READ THE ENTIRE SCENARIO BEFORE SETTING UP ***

OVERVIEW Your band has acquired some data about your opponent's forces. You must protect your intel, while securing the intel your opponent has acquired about you.

BATTLEFIELD Place the 4 pieces of terrain per the BRB. Forests, Buildings and Rolling Hills are considered large target sized; a large target behind an object may not be targeted except by a unit on high ground. Building Assault rules are in effect for this scenario.

DEPLOYMENT Both players roll a die, the player with the highest score may choose which side to deploy on. The other player’s Deployment Zone is the opposite side. The player with the most units deploys first. If equal number, player who did not select deployment zone may decide who will deploy first. The players then take turns deploying one unit at a time until both of their entire forces are on the table.

SPECIAL RULES The Intel: At the beginning of the game, each player must assign a single unit to protect its discovered intelligence. This must be a unit and not an independent character. Use the Adepticon marker to denote this unit. The marker will be dropped if the unit flees for any reason (or is destroyed). If the unit is broken in combat, the winning unit (if not a lone character) may pick it in the same manner as a banner. Any unit (not a lone character) may pick up a marker by passing over it in a normal (non-charge/-march/-fly) move.

WHO GOES FIRST Each player rolls a D6. The player who finished placing all his units first (not including scouts) may add +1 to this die roll. The player with the highest result may choose whether to go first or second.

GAME LENGTH Game will last 6 turns or until time is called. Do not start a new turn after the 45 min mark.

VICTORY CONDITIONS Warbands VPs are computed as follows ("destroyed" includes fleeing/fled):

Units destroyed/Character killed = Full VPs Units reduced to half strength or less but not destroyed/Character reduced to half wounds or less = ½ VPs For this scenario – Destroying the opposing commander is worth 50 additional VPs

Difference of 76 or more VPs needed for a Victory Battle Point Modifiers +1 if you still possess your "Intel" marker

+1 if you possess your opponent's "Intel" marker

+1 for destroying opponent's highest point unit (characters do not count as a unit for this)

-1 if none of your units crossed the center line

-1 if you have not destroyed (dead/fled/fleeing) at least one of your opponent's units

WARHAMMER FANTASY WARBANDS (MIDDAY)

SCENARIO \2: TOO MANY GOALS; TOO FEW TROOPS *** READ THE ENTIRE SCENARIO BEFORE SETTING UP ***

OVERVIEW Your warband has been sent out to secure an area to be used as a base camp for an upcoming campaign. As such, you have many goals you need to accomplish.

BATTLEFIELD Place the 4 pieces of terrain per the BRB. Forests, Buildings and Rolling Hills are considered large target sized; a large target behind an object may not be targeted except by a unit on high ground. Building Assault rules are in effect. Separate the board into quadrants.

DEPLOYMENT Roll to select the starting quadrant. The winner selects his (or her) quadrant by placing a unit, and the opponent takes the opposite corner. You may deploy anywhere in your quadrant (there is no minimum distance from your opponent as long as you are both in your quadrants). Units with special deployment (scouts/tunnellers/ambushers/etc.) may not use their special deployment. The players then take turns deploying one unit at a time until both of their entire forces are on the table.

SPECIAL RULES You have three goals.

• Kill the Opposing Commander • Destroy (dead/fled/fleeing) 50% of the Opposing

Warband Total Unit Strength • Hold the Most Quadrants

WHO GOES FIRST Each player rolls a D6. The player who finished placing all his units first (not including scouts) may add +1 to this die roll. The player with the highest result may choose whether to go first or second.

GAME LENGTH Game will last 6 turns or until time is called. Do not start a new turn after the 45 min mark.

VICTORY CONDITIONS Victory points are not used. Rather, you will compare the number of Goals each player achieves. The player that achieves the greater number of goals is the winner. If both players achieve the same number of goals, it is a draw. To hold or contest a quadrant, you must have a unit of at least minimum starting size in the quadrant at the end of the game. Battle Point Modifiers +1 for each Goal satisfied -1 if none of your units left your deployment zone. -1 if you have not destroyed (dead/fled/fleeing) at least one of your opponent's units.

SCENARIO 3: DRINKING AND FIGHTING DON’T… *** READ THE ENTIRE SCENARIO BEFORE SETTING UP ***

OVERVIEW The celebration after the last battle was as legendary as the battle itself (maybe more so), but you are paying for it now…

GAME LENGTH Game will last 6 turns or until time is called. Do not start a new turn after the 45 min mark.

SPECIAL RULES Your commander (and any other characters you might have) is nursing quite the hangover (whether from booze, drinking blood, or being wracked by the Chaos warp). His Leadership and Weapon Skill and Ballistic Skill are each reduced by 1 for the battle. If your commander's leadership is 6 or less, they do not suffer the Ld penalty (as they were not that bright to begin with) but still suffer the WS/BS penalty.

WHO GOES FIRST Each player rolls a D6. Player who finished deploying first (not including scouts) gets +2 (as the opposing commander is slow to react).

VICTORY CONDITIONS Warbands VPs are computed as follows ("destroyed" includes fleeing/fled):

Units destroyed/Character killed = Full VPs

Units reduced to half strength or less but not destroyed/Character reduced to half wounds or less = ½ VPs

For this scenario – Destroying the opposing Highest Point Unit is worth 50 additional VPs (characters do not count as a unit for this); if multiple units are the highest point then the player must declare which one of them is "highest" before the game for purposes of this bonus Difference of 76 or more VPs needed for a Victory. Battle Point Modifiers +1 for having at least one unit in opponent's deployment zone at the end of the battle +1 for killing the opponent's commander +1 for destroying opponent's highest point unit (characters do not count as a unit for this) -1 if none of your units crossed the center line -1 if you have not destroyed (dead/fled/fleeing) at least one of your opponent's units

WARHAMMER FANTASY WARBANDS (MIDDAY)

SCENARIO 4: HOLD THE CENTER *** READ THE ENTIRE SCENARIO BEFORE SETTING UP ***

OVERVIEW The center of the field will make an excellent base of operations for the army coming up behind you. You must take the center and hold it!

BATTLEFIELD Place the 4 pieces of terrain per the BRB. Forests, Buildings and Rolling Hills are considered large target sized; a large target behind an object may not be targeted except by a unit on high ground. Building Assault rules are in effect.

GAME LENGTH Game will last 6 turns or until time is called. Do not start a new turn after the 45 min mark.

SPECIAL RULES Hold the Center of the Field.

WHO GOES FIRST Each player rolls a D6. The player who finished placing all his units first (not including scouts) may add +1 to this die roll. The player with the highest result may choose whether to go first or second.

VICTORY CONDITIONS Victory Points are not used. The player who has the higher total unit strength of all troops within 9" of the center of the table at the end of the battle is the winner. This is determined on a model-by-model basis and any model with any part of its base within 9" may be counted. Neither player may measure out the 9" radius from the center until after Turn 6 is completed (or time is called). Battle Point Modifiers +2 for having twice the unit strength of your opponent in the Center zone at the end of the battle +1 for killing the opponent's commander -1 if none of your units crossed the center line -1 if you have not destroyed (dead/fled/fleeing) at least one of your opponent's units

SCENARIO 5: SABOTAGE! *** READ THE ENTIRE SCENARIO BEFORE SETTING UP ***

OVERVIEW You have been given a minor magical artifact that will disrupt the opponent in tomorrow's battle. Your job is to sneak it behind enemy lines.

BATTLEFIELD Place the 4 pieces of terrain per the BRB. Forests, Buildings and Rolling Hills are considered large target sized; a large target behind an object may not be targeted except by a unit on high ground. Building Assault rules are in effect.

GAME LENGTH Game will last 6 turns or until time is called. Do not start a new turn after the 45 min mark.

SPECIAL RULES The Artifact: At the beginning of the game, each player must assign a single unit to deliver their artifact. This must be a unit and not an independent character. Use the Adepticon marker to denote this unit. The unit will maintain its artifact unless it is destroyed or flees off the table (if the unit is destroyed or flees off the table, remove the marker from play). The goal is to end the game with the artifact in the opponent's deployment zone.

WHO GOES FIRST Each player rolls a D6. The player who finished placing all his units first (not including scouts) may add +1 to this die roll. The player with the highest result may choose whether to go first or second.

VICTORY CONDITIONS Warbands VPs are computed as follows ("destroyed" includes fleeing/fled): Units destroyed/Character killed = Full VPs Units reduced to half strength or less but not destroyed/Character reduced to half wounds or less = ½ VPs For this scenario – Destroying the unit with the artifact marker is worth 50 additional VPs Difference of 76 or more VPs needed for a Victory. Battle Point Modifiers +1 if your artifact marker is in your possession in the enemy's deployment zone +1 if your opponent's artifact marker is not in your deployment zone +1 for destroying (or causing to flee off table) opponent's artifact carrying unit -1 if none of your units crossed the center line -1 if you have not destroyed (dead/fled/fleeing) at least one of your opponent's units
