Welcome to school registration. We have stations set up that each student will need to go through in order to complete the registration process. Step one is to complete all of the forms in your folder to the best of your ability prior to proceeding to Station 2. Each packet indicates which station will be collecting which form. If you wish to have your student opt in to the Remote Learning Option, pick up the form from Station 1, fill out, and turn in to Station 7 (Guidance).

Station 1- Folder Pick-Up/ Remote Learning FormStation 2- Student Demographics and Information

All forms will be checked for completion and demographics will be updated.Station 3- Cafeteria

Everyone will need to complete the National School Lunch Form except for the students with the blue sheet indicating direct certification. The direct certification students will sign a waiver at Station 3. Even if you think that you do not qualify, we will still need everyone to sign this form and turn it in. Prior year cafeteria bills can be paid here along with adding a balance to the cafeteria system for the upcoming school year. Station 4- Medical/ Dental Safari

Everyone must check in with the Nurse's Station.Station 5- Fees Collection

Fees will need to be paid at Station 5. Any Fee Waiver Form obtained from Station 3 will be collected here. Fees to be paid at this station are as follows; $25 Book/Locker fee, $4 Parking Sticker, and $85 Driver's Education fee. If you have a fee statement from prior years in your folder, it will need to be paid at this station. We now accept Online Payments through our website.Station 6- Athletics

A staff member will be available to answer questions.Station 7- Guidance/ Question &Answer

Any schedule change requests will be collected at this station along with any other forms from the Guidance Packet. Turn in Remote Learning form if you wish to opt in.Station 8- Dual Credit Enrollment

Any student with a dual credit class (DCT and/or DCNR as indicated on their schedule) will need to fill out enrollment paperwork at this station.

This school year will start on Thursday, August 13th, with a 11:30a.m. dismissal. Please have your student to school by 8:00a.m. Friday, August 14th will be 2:00p.m. dismissal. Also, as a reminder, the building does not open until 7:45a.m.

Picture Day will be on Monday, August 17th.

Children need healthy meals to learn. Vienna High School offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast costs $1.90; lunch costs $2.90. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals. Reduced price is $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch. Reduced-Price Meals (185% Federal Poverty Guidelines)

Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines (Effective from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021)

1. DO I NEED TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION FOR EACH CHILD? No. Complete the application to apply for free or reduced price meals. Use one Household EligibilityApplication for all students in your household per district. We cannot approve an application that is not complete, so be sure to fill out all required information. Return the completed application to the school.

2. WHO CAN GET FREE MEALS? All children in households receiving benefits from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and/or are foster children that are under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court are eligible for free meals regardless of your income. Also, your children can get free meals if your household’s gross income is within the free limits on the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines. Children who meet the definition of homeless, runaway, or migrant also qualify for free meals. If you haven’t been told your children will get free meals, please contact your school to see if your child(ren) qualifies.

3. WHO CAN GET REDUCED PRICE MEALS? Your children can get low cost meals if your household income is within the reduced price limits on the Federal Eligibility IncomeChart, shown above.

4. A MEMBER OF MY HOUSEHOLD RECEIVED SNAP OR TANF BENEFITS. THE SCHOOL SENT A LETTER STATING THAT MY CHILD IS AUTOMATICALLY APPROVED FOR FREE MEALS BASED ON DIRECT CERTIFICATION. DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING MORE TO ENSURE THAT MY CHILD RECIEVES FREE MEALS? No. You do not need to do anything more to receive free meals for your child. If you have students not listed on the letter, contact the school immediately. If you do not wish to receive the free meals, you should follow the steps outlined in the letter from the school to notify school personnel immediately.

5. HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILDREN QUALIFY AS HOMELESS, MIGRANT, OR RUNAWAY? Do the members of your household lack a permanent address? Are you staying together in a shelter, hotel, or other temporary housing arrangement? Does your family relocate on a seasonal basis? Are any children living with you who have chosen to leavetheir prior family or household? If you believe children in your household meet these descriptions and haven’t been told your children will get free meals, please contact your school.

6. MY CHILD’S APPLICATION WAS APPROVED LAST YEAR. DO I NEED TO FILL OUT ANOTHER ONE? Yes. Your child’s application is only good for that school year and for the first few days of this school year. You must send in a new application unless the school told you that your child is eligible for the new school year.

7. I GET WIC. CAN MY CHILD(REN) GET FREE MEALS? Children in households participating in WIC may be eligible for free or reduced price meals. Please fill out the enclosed application.

8. WILL THE INFORMATION I GIVE BE CHECKED? Yes. We may also ask you to send written proof.

9. IF I DON’T QUALIFY NOW, MAY I APPLY LATER? Yes, you may apply at any time during the school year. For example, children with a parent or guardian who becomes unemployed may become eligible for free and reduced price meals if the household income drops below the income limit.

10. WHAT IF I DISAGREE WITH THE SCHOOL’S DECISION ABOUT MY APPLICATION? You should talk to school officials. You also may ask for a hearing by calling orwriting to the person listed above.

11. MAY I APPLY IF SOMEONE IN MY HOUSEHOLD IS NOT A U.S. CITIZEN? Yes. You or your child(ren) do not have to be U.S. citizens to qualify for free or reduced price meals.

12. WHO SHOULD I INCLUDE AS MEMBERS OF MY HOUSEHOLD? You must include all people living in your household, related or not (such as grandparents, other relatives, or friends) who share income and expenses. You must include yourself and all children living with you. If you live with other people who are economically independent (for example, people who you do not support, who do not share income with you or your children, and who pay a pro-rated share of expenses), do not include them.

13. WHAT IF MY INCOME IS NOT ALWAYS THE SAME? List the amount that you normally receive. For example, if you normally make $1000 each month, but you missed some work last month and only made $900, put down that you made $1000 per month. If you normally get overtime, include it, but do not include it if you only work overtime sometimes. If you have lost a job or had your hours or wages reduced, use your current income.

14. WHAT IF SOME HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS HAVE NO INCOME TO REPORT? Household members may not receive some types of income we ask you to report on the application, or may not receive income at all. Whenever this happens, please write a 0 in the field. However, if any income fields are left empty or blank, those will also be counted as zeroes. Please be careful when leaving income fields blank, as we will assume you meant to do so.

15. WE ARE IN THE MILITARY. DO WE REPORT OUR INCOME DIFFERENTLY? Your basic pay and cash bonuses must be reported as income. If you get any cash valueallowances for off-base housing, food, or clothing, it must also be included as income. However, if your housing is part of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative, do notinclude your housing allowance as income. Any additional combat pay resulting from deployment is also excluded from income.

Privacy Act Statement: This explains how we will use the information you give us. The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act requires the information on this application. You do not have to give the information, but if you do not, we cannot approve your child for free or reduced price meals. You must include the last four digits of the social security number of the adult household member who signs the application. The last four digits of the social security number is not required when you apply on behalf of a foster child or you list a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) case number or other FDPIR identifier for your child or when you indicate that the adult household member signing the application does not have a social security number. We will use your information to determine if your child is eligible for free or reduced price meals, and for administration and enforcement of the lunch and breakfast programs. We MAY share your eligibility information with education, health, and nutrition programs to help them evaluate, fund, or determine benefits for their programs, auditors for program reviews, and law enforcement officials to help them look into violations of program rules.

It is one of Vienna High School’s primary goals to ensure that all students have the advantage of appropriate course placement to create an environment in which students can arrive at a

successful finish. The course/curriculum alignment and sequence map is one tool that

will be utilized to clearly communicate placement. As students move through each grade, assessment data will be captured to

ensure the best placement for that student’s individual skill level. This approach of proved

mastery based placement builds foundations as students move into pursuing future goals in

career and college readiness.

English Specific Information

As students begin their freshmen year they will be placed into either English I-PCP (Pre-College Preparatory) or English I-PCR (Pre-College Ready) course based on PSAT8 scores and teacher recommendation. Students will then

move onto English II-PCP or English II-PCR base on their PSAT9 scores and/or teacher recommendation. After successful completion of English II the reading comprehension and sentence portions of the College Board’s ACCUPLACER assessment will be administered. The purpose of this assessment will be to determine college English readiness. Based on the scores of this assessment, students will either be placed into remedial non-

transfer college preparatory dual credit English III-ENG047/048 or non-dual credit college ready English III-PCR (with a possible exception granted by teacher recommendation). English III-ENG047/048 is considered a non-transferable prerequisite to college level transferable English. Students placed in non-dual credit English III will

be prepared to transition into dual credit English IV-ENG111/112 during their senior year. English IV-ENG111/112 is considered to be a transfer level college English course. Those students who obtain an English III-ENG047/048 placement their sophomore year will be post-tested on the reading comprehension and sentence portions of the College Board’s ACCUPLACER assessment or given consideration for completion of English III-ENG047/048 with a C or better. allowing for the best foundation to be built. Once students have successfully completed Algebra II the Mathematics portion of the College Board’s ACCUPLACER assessment will be administered. The purpose of this assessment will be to determine college math readiness. Based on the scores of this assessment, students will either be placed into remedial

non-transfer college preparatory dual credit Algebra III-MAT041/043 or Pre-Calculus-MAT116/118. Algebra III-MAT041/043 is considered a non-transferable prerequisite to college-level transfer math. Pre-Calculus-MAT116/118 is

The General Science track serves to prepare

students for post high school career and vocational placement. The Life Science track serves students who have a career goal that would include, but not be limited to, the medical field and all related areas. The Physical Science track

serves students who are going into career fields with an emphasis in science, technology, math, or engineering. The Liberal Arts Science track serves those students who are college bound with career goals that will require minimal

science curriculum. Chemistry II being taught in the conjunction with The College Board’s Advance Placement program as AP Chemistry (started in SY2020 and was phased out in SY2021).

Chapter 6 – Discipline and Conduct

Here you will find general student conduct requirements, student dress codes and cafeteria rules. Also included are new State mandated notifications on bullying and bullying prevention.

6.10 General Building Conduct

Students shall not arrive at school before 7:45 a.m. and classes begin at 8:05 a.m. and students are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. each day. The following rules shall apply, and failure to abide by the rules may result in discipline:

• Hats shall not be allowed in the building.• Students shall not run, talk loudly or yell in the hallways nor shall they push, shove or hit others.• Students shall not write on walls, desks or deface or destroy school property.• Skateboards are not permitted at school.• Water guns, play guns, and/or real guns are not permitted at school.• No radios, CD players, or cameras are permitted without permission from the principal.

6.20 School Dress Code/Student Appearance

Students are expected to wear clothing in a neat, clean, and well-fitting manner while on school property and/or in attendance at school sponsored activities. Students are to use discretion in their dress and are not permitted to wear apparel that causes a substantial disruption in the school environment.

• Student dress (including accessories) may not advertise, promote, or picture alcoholic beverages, illegaldrugs, drug paraphernalia, violent behavior, or other inappropriate images.

• Student dress (including accessories) may not display lewd, vulgar, obscene, or offensive language orsymbols, including gang symbols.

• Hoods from hooded apparel shall not be worn during the school day.• Coats, sun glasses, and colored contact lenses may not be worn in the building during the school day.

Coats, and sun glasses are to be kept in lockers during the school day.• Headbands may be worn if they are a solid color, no wider than 2 inches, and used for the purpose of

keeping hair out of the face. Bandana type headgear may only be worn if they meet this criteria.• Hair styles, dress, and accessories that pose a safety hazard are not permitted in the shop, laboratories, or

during physical education.• Clothing with holes, rips, and/or tears that appear above the mid-thigh may not be worn at school.• Clothing that is otherwise poorly fitting, showing skin and/or undergarments may not be worn at school.• Shirts must have sleeves and completely cover the back, abdomen (stomach) and cleavage.• The length of shorts or skirts must be appropriate for the school environment. No part of the bottom

hem of shorts, skirts and dresses should be above the mid-thigh (even with leggings). Mid-thigh representshalf way between the knee and top of the hip bone while standing.

• Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times.• If there is any doubt about dress and appearance, the building principal will make the final decision.• Student whose dress causes a substantial disruption of the orderly process of school functions or endangers

the health or safety of the student, other students, staff or others may be subject to discipline.

Students with questionable apparel issues will be sent to the nurse with a referral slip for a final determination. The nurse will inform the referring staff member and the student of her ruling. If the student is determined to be in violation of the policy, the referral slip will be forwarded to the principal and the disciplinary policy will be enforced.
