1.4 DESIGN / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Cooperate with regulatory agency or authority and provide data as requested by authority having jurisdiction.

B. Design Criteria: Prebuild tanks shall meet the following design criteria:1. Tank shall be vented to atmospheric pressure and is not designed as a pressure

vessel.2. Static Load: Tank shall withstand Specific Gravity Loading of 1.03. Joint Design per A.I.S.C. with 2:1 safety factor.4. Roof Deck Snow Load: ___ PSF unless otherwise specified.

5. Seismic Design: Design to withstand seismic forces in accordance with AWWA and the Seismic Zone applicable.

6. Wind Load: Maximum horizontal gusted wind speed of 94 mph (151 km/h).7. Design foundations for the loads being imparted to them, and for local soil conditions.8. Design to support accessory equipment-such as piping and ladders indicated or

specified and when installed according to tank manufacturer's recommendations.

1.5 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:1. Construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and

profiles, and finishes.2. Preparation instructions and recommendations.3. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.4. Installation and erection procedures.

C. Shop Drawings: Show plan, elevation and details including secondary framing, anchors, cross sections and details.

D. Manufacturer's Certificates: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.

E. Closeout Submittals:1. Provide manufacturer's certified Quality Control Test Report.2. Provide manufacturer's maintenance instructions that include recommendations for

periodic checking and adjustment and periodic cleaning and maintenance of all components.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing prefabricated structures and shelters with a minimum documented experience of five years.

C. Installer Qualifications: Erection: Tank shall be erected by factory authorized and trained personnel only.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store products under cover in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

B. Keep all bundles dry before assembly of the tank. Store all hardware boxes inside.

1.8 SEQUENCING

A. Ensure that locating templates and other information required for installation of products of this section are furnished to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

B. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.9 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

B. Maintain accessible for two-wheel drive 20 foot flatbed truck and trailer unless otherwise indicated. Notify tank supplier in advance if pad requires other equipment for access.

1.10 WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer shall provide 10 year conditional warranty on materials and workmanship

2.4 MATERIALS

A. Steel Sheet: ASTM A 653, Grade 40, Zinc-Coated to G-115.

B. Bolts: ASTM A307 galvanized per ASTM A384 or A385.

C. Expansion Foam Seals: Willseal 600 acrylic Impregnated polyurethane foam.

2.5 ACCESSORIES

A. Anchor Brackets:1. Brackets shall be fabricated of 10 gauge galvanized steel as supplied by tank

manufacturer and bolted to tank shell.2. Anchor bolts shall be provided as specified in Section 03300 and installed upon

completion of tank installation.

B. Manways:1. Tanks shall be equipped with a minimum 24 inch diameter deck manway.2. Shell manways are to be flanged and 24 inch i.d. complete with gaskets, bolts and

covers. Location(s) shall be shown on tank drawings.3. Additional manway shall be indicated on tank drawings if required.

C. Venting:1. Venting shall be 4 inch minimum and no less than 150 percent of largest outlet size.2. Vent shall be provided with screen and cover to prevent insects or run-off from

entering tank.3. Location(s) shall be shown on tank drawings.

D. Level Gauges:1. Provide Westeel Water Tank Water Level Indicator. Water level indicators shall be

installed adjacent to deck manway opening.

E. Ladders:1. Ladders shall be the manufacturer's standard ladders.2. External Ladder material shall be galvanized steel or as shown on tank drawings.3. Ladders over 96 inches in height shall be equipped with OSHA cage or anti-fall device

as shown on tank drawing.4. Interior Ladders shall be galvanized steel or as shown on tank drawings.

F. Platforms:1. Platforms shall be the manufacturer's standard.2. External platform material shall be galvanized steel or as shown on tank drawings.

G. Stairs:1. Stairs shall be the manufacturer's standard.2. External stair material shall be galvanized steel or as shown on tank drawings.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. Examine supporting grade and or foundations for compliance with manufacturer's requirements, including installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of installation.

C. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Install tanks in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. Foundation: Tank foundation shall be installed on firm and compacted soil. Tank pad shall be level.

C. Foundation: Place on prepared concrete foundations and slabs provided as specified under Section 03300.

D. Anchors:

1. Anchor securely in place, allowing for required movement, including expansion and contraction.

2. Locate anchor bolts towards the outside of the anchor bolt holes (away from tank) to permit the incremental expansion that can occur with the initial filling.

E. Verify the orientation of the inspection hatch sheet, roof ladder inspection hatch, water level gauges, pipe penetrations and other accessories prior to start of erection.

F. Wall Penetration Fittings:1. All fittings shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer's procedures.2. All fittings shall be oriented per tank drawings prior to shipment or installed on site if

field assembled.

G. Any penetrations through the wall sheets must not be made on a vertical bolt seam. Penetrations should be located towards the center of a wall sheet such that the hole and collars do not interfere with any structural bolt hole locations.

H. Position the geotextile bag and liner in the center of the tank before it is completely closed-in.

I. Install roof and eve ladders, platforms, cages, stairs, etc when the 1st wall sheet tier and roof are completed and before the liner is attached.

J. Install water gauges and other roof-mounted accessories.

K. As the tank is being raised, continue assembling ladders etc. as you go.

L. Complete installation in accordance with the manufacturers written instructions. Torque all bolts in strict compliance with the manufacturer's requirements. Submit certification of the torque wrench's accuracy prior to torqueing.1. Filling and Hydraulic Testing: Following completion of erection provide Quality Control

testing in strict compliance with the manufacturer's printed requirements. Submit a copy of the completed test repost certified by the manufacturer upon successful completion.

2. Tank shall be hydro-tested for leakage by filling tank to overflow level.3. Tank shall not be filled with water for a minimum of seven days of completion.

M. Cleaning: Tank shall be disinfected in accordance with tank manufacturer's recommendations per AWWA C 652 procedures.

N. If white rust has started to develop prior to acceptance, separate parts and wipe off any moisture. Next, using a clean cloth, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or food-grade oil to the entire part.

3.4 TOLARANCES

A. Before anchoring the tank ensure that the tank is round. Maximum variation from perfect roundness is 3/4 inch on the radius.

3.5 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed products until completion of project.

B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
