SPECIAL NOTES!!!!CHOIR POTLUCKS
The last potluck gathering from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. will be on Monday, April 4
These potlucks, held every season, are a tradition in the choir that allows us to get to know each other a little better.
Please bring a tasty dish to share and your own plate, cup and cutlery. An ingredients sign would be helpful for those with dietary considerations and perhaps a name label in case someone wants to get your recipe from you.
A great way to connect with members you might normally only see across a crowded room!
All choir members are welcome at all potlucks. Come and enjoy!

HOW 100 WOMEN RESPONDED TO THE ATTACKS IN COLOGNE WITH LOVE
Most people just want peace and respect. Let's not judge all from the harmful actions of a few. This is a touching video put out by Avaaz. Enjoy, smile and cry.

GHC WEB SITE EXPLORATION?!
If you haven’t already done so I invite you to explore our web site’s Choir Life section a little.
While most of you will probably have been at least once to the “Choir Life: Home” page I would be willing to bet that quite a few of you haven’t checked out what is on offer on the other pages of the section.
In particular the “Choir Photos,” “Choir Videos” and “Singing?!” pages. You may be surprised at what you find there.

The HERO WORK SOCIETY Is… GEARING UP FOR IT`S NEXT RADICAL RENOVATION
For the last three months Paul Latour, HeroWork Society founder, has been trudging through a ton of preparatory work. It's now time to shift into another gear! We've got some inspiring things to share soon. For starters The Victoria Real Estate Board has partnered with HeroWork once again! Go Realtors of Victoria! Proud to have you as one of our Build Sponsors. More announcements coming!
But first, for those who didn't see it on CHEK or at the gala (or if you want to watch it again) the Citizens' Counselling Centre Radical Renovation video has just been uploaded. No commercials. Give it a gander and look back at what we created together. http://www.herowork.com/citizens-counselling- centre

Please sponsor me in BOWL FOR KIDS SAKE Apr 22n 2016
Big Brothers Big Sisters in Victoria matches about 500 children to improve their lives. We have over 100 children on the waiting list. Most are boys and stay on that list for up to 2 years. We have volunteers but not enough resources to set up the matches which is an important step and great care must be taken. We are raising money to reduce that waiting list. I'm bowling in the Bowl for Kids Sake for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria on April 22nd and I'd like you to sponsor me. You can do it online and will automatically get a tax receipt by clicking here.

BOTTLE DRIVE - CYCLE OF HOPE FOR ALS
The Cycle of Hope team have raised over $150,000 over the last four years for ALS. We are going into our 5th year and need to raise at least $25,000 to sponsor a research student to find a cause and a cure for ALS. We are also committed to raise money for the Lemonaid Fund which raises money for children whose parents are living with, or have died from ALS.
I will be collecting donations of recyclable bottles/cans/drink cartons on Monday nights until June. The choir and our community helped us raise over $8,500 in bottles last year. Any donation no matter how small would be much appreciated.
Thank you

EYE TREATMENT FUND CAMPAIGN A request by Junie Swadron
Dear Friends, I have recently been diagnosed with a serious vision problem. The treatment is very costly and there is no coverage.
After a lot of convincing by some friends of mine, I agreed to begin a gofundme campaign. It is very difficult to reach out and ask for help in this way. However, if after reading my story, you feel called to contribute any amount at all, I couldn't thank you enough.
You can read the details here: https://www.gofundme.com/junieswadron

SUNDAY AFTERNOONSACRED WRITING CIRCLES with Junie Swadron The afternoon is about sharing from our hearts, it’s laughter, it’s friendship. It’s learning to stop judging our work, it’s sipping tea. It’s finding our voice and feeling safe to speak our words out loud. It’s about being authentic and kind. It’s about music and moving our bodies during the break. It’s about creativity and it’s about catharsis – allowing the writing to become our wise teacher. It’s poetry and it’s prose. It is short stories and drawings that we write from.
In short – It’s a love fest both on and off the page!

Editor’s NoteThis movie is the second in a three film series. The first was “Shining Night: A Portrait of Composer Morten Lauridsen” which played Victoria a few years ago with Denis’ Soundings Vocal Ensemble singing one of Lauridsen’s compositions on opening night. It was heart-full film that was seen by many members of choir community. Given the beauty of Michae Stillwaterl’s music (that we have sung in choir) and the beauty of that first film I am definitely looking forward to seeing this second one. I am also looking even farther forward to the third film in the series a year or three from now which Michael says will: “focus on the global epidemic of people afraid to share their singing voice, and the simultaneous renaissance occurring among those coming forth with their voice - including in community choirs (like Gettin Higher).”
Since he filmed a GHC practice a number of years ago when he was in the process of creating the series we may hear some familiar songs and see some familiar faces in that one.

DEEP SINGING VICTORIA MINI-RETREAT
Meditative singing led by Helen Bee (from Indralaya on Orcas Island).
Singing is one of the most essential elements of spirituality. Deep Singing involves singing chants, rounds, and other simple songs repetitively, until the songs sink deeply into your heart. Songs are alternated with undirected intervals of meditative silence, "deep listening".
We sing and breathe together songs from different spiritual traditions. After each song comes to a natural close, there is a deep silence and listening. Singing and listening together engenders a profound experience of wholeness and often brings with it a feeling of pure joy. There will be a singing session from 3-5, a potluck from 5-6, and another singing session 6-8pm.
When: 24 April 2016 3pm-8pmLocation: Church of Truth 111 Superior St, Victoria Cost: $25 (includes songbook)To register: www . bit . do / deepsing
Limited to 85 participants.
