School Sleepover This will take place over the evening of Friday 10th June. There are a few places left if any child would like to take part, but once we are full we are full. If it’s anything like the previous ones it will be really enjoyable.

Enlargement News Children and families will have seen staff from both sites in unusual places in the last few weeks and there is a great deal of work going on behind the scenes to make the enlargement possible. Mr Fox will be working over both sites from 6th June. I am indebted to staff on both sites for all the hard work they have put in so far.

Alterations From half term, families will start seeing some changes to the Field Top Road site as we are calling it. Maybe you can let us know when you notice something different. These will not all happen at once and as usual we are in the hands of contractors, but we hope the things that are altered are seen positively.

Remember children…keep safe this holiday-do that risk assessment in your head before doing anything.

Following on from Daniel Brown’s meeting with Craig Whittaker MP, he will visit school after the holidays and take part in a question and answer session with Year 5. It seems like Daniel has got the bit between his teeth on this one, well done Daniel!

Half term We hope all our families have a good break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 6th June at 8.50am.

Fun and Learning at the Bagshaw Museum in Batley Year 3 will be on tour after the holiday as they visit the above museum and find out about all things Egyptian as part of their topic work. We look forward to hearing from all the ‘mummies and daddies’ about how much you enjoyed it.

Year 6 Safemark Workshop After the break Year 6 will be skilling themselves up with a Safemark workshop designed to help them make safe choices in all manner of areas as they move onto high school. This is an important part of their transition and we hope they will not only learn but enjoy these sessions too.

New Roof for Hooters The workmen have completed the new roof to Hooters/Music Room now. It looks brilliant and we need to say a really big thank you to our builders who have done a fabulous job. The material used to coat the roof is normally found on a boat so we hope it will more waterproof! Now our carpets have been cleaned and Mr Hunt and his team will be making sure the rooms are ready for their occupants in the summer term 2.

New Screens for LJS After the holidays the children will notice a big change in their classrooms … new Interactive screens for all the rooms. These are replacing the more outdated whiteboards. New interactive style TVs which can play all software and are back lit are the future. The blinds can be drawn back and with the sun streaming in the screens can still be seen. Thanks to our own Mr Hurst for supervising this work during the half term.

Reading with your child I wonder how many of our parents read with their children each evening? In school we see the power of reading aloud, the children enjoy this so much and adults are able to model good speaking and listening. Correct pronunciation of words by an adult helps children to learn. It is also a great social time for families. I wonder if this is becoming a lost art amongst our community? I know some of you do this, maybe you could share with us the books your children love you to read with them either by e-mail, letter or on twitter.
