To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper LeeUnit OutlineAs we read the book, you will be responsible for keeping both a reading log and a word log in addition to class activities.

For the reading log: For each day of assigned reading, you must provide a summary of the chapters in five (5) bullet points. Each must be a complete sentence. Resist the urge to go online for summaries or to copy off another person! It is easy for me to catch plagiarism and you will receive a zero on the assignment-- not worth it! For the response, you are to provide some personal response to what you read in paragraph form. In your response, you will record a personal reflection you had to the book, connect it with events happening in your real world, and/or pose questions and predicted answers that you hope will be confirmed as you read further. Your response must include at least two (2) properly cited quotes for credit. I will be checking this *at random* as we read, so it is important to stay up to date.

For the word log: Lee uses several words that you are no doubt unfamiliar with. It is your responsibility to locate sixteen such words from the book, define the word (etc.), and use the word in an original sentence. You will record these on the final pages of this packet.

Reading Schedule: Every Monday: we will be completing an AOW or POW dealing with similar themes in the book. For each, you will be required to complete a short quiz or writing assignment, as determined by Ms. W. In addition, you will have a short reading quiz on the novel as well.

Block Days: On each of the following days, we will either read these chapters OR they will be homework for you to have read to be prepared for the next time we meet. For example, on April 18/19, we will read chapter 1 in class, but I expect you to read chapters 2-5 for homework.
