Kindergarten News – 5/21/18 Themes of the Week: American Symbols Dear Kindergarten Families: It’s hard to believe we have less than 4 weeks left to the school year! Please review our school rules everyday with the kids so that we can have a safe and happy ending to the school year! Language Arts: Last week we wrote a Super Worm comic from an idea derived from “Diary of a Worm” This week we will discuss some of our American symbols as Memorial Day approaches, and Mrs. Pascoe has been teaching the children some flag songs to sing around our flag pole on Friday. Juicy words from “The Moon:” visible, entire, remarkable, future Math: Adding, subtracting and solid (3D) shapes, continue to be our focus. We want the adding and subtracting to become quick. We will play math games to reinforce these skills. The words cylinder and sphere seems to be mixed up at times. Maybe when you pick up a ball, say the word “sphere.” I’ve been saying let’s play “basket-sphere” or get the “soccer sphere!” Science: Last week we observed nightcrawlers and redworms and documented their body parts in a worm journal. We talked about what worms need to live and why they are important to our earth. They were excited to name a pet worm and bring it home - even though you probably were not! We have completed our kindergarten science units! Summer Birthdays: Anyone who has a birthday after school is out may celebrate in the classroom any day between now and June 14. Just let me know. Upcoming Dates to Remember: - Wed. May 30 - Field Day (June 1 rain date) Thank you volunteers! If you are still interested in walking with kindergartners OR to run a game, please complete the form today and send it back tomorrow. - Fri. June 8 - Kindergarten Picnic at Woods Lakefront Park 10:30 to 2:00 - Remember we are hoping that at least one family member can join us for lunch and a small awards ceremony from about 12:00 to 1:30. Other family members and siblings can meet us at the park. - Fri. June 8 - Annual PTO Ice Cream Social 5-8pm - Lots of fun! - Thu. June 14 - Half Day AM only - Dismissal 11:36 a.m. - Fri. June 15 - Last Day of School! - Half Day AM only - Dismissal 11:36 a.m. BUCKET FILLER OF THE WEEK: Eloise Purcell Family Project - Include reading, math and discovering in your summer fun together!!
