The client was a P.E teacher from a secondary school for students in years 7, 8 and 9. The request was for a poster advertising TTC’s sports day on Wednesday 30th June 2016. The client also wanted the line ‘Which tutor group will win?’ used in the poster. I was given the freedom to create and design the aesthetics of the poster.

The intended audience are the Year 7, 8 and 9’s that attend this school. This means an age group of around 11-14 year olds and a mix of genders as this poster is aimed at all students from the school. The students this is aimed at are young people that enjoy sports and are looking forward to summer and the end of year celebrations. These are active team players. The kinds of values and opinions they will have are a great sense of competitiveness but also using these activities to have fun. The kinds of attitudes and interests they will have are optimism towards getting involved and enjoying sports itself. This is an opportunity for them to have a break from the work they have been doing in lessons. This event is for E grade in Social Occupational Classification as this for students. They will not have an income or will have a very low one themselves.

I produced the design by choosing a font for the writing. This was one of the first things I did. I wrote ‘Sports Day’ in a large font in the middle of the poster. I then wrote the line and date and made this fit in the same length as ‘Sports Day’. I chose a light blue colour, as this is reflective of the season the event is on, which is summer. The blue also relates to the sky and has a calming effect on people, which creates a calm relaxed feeling about this

event. I then chose to create a football, rounder’s bat and ball and a flag decoration, which has been placed in the corner. This creates something aesthetically pleasing to look at on the poster and also attracts that age group, as this is still quite a fun, casual poster. The shadows create some depth for a more interesting effective poster. Next the logo and slogan used for TTC was added in the right hand corner. This covers the blank space but also lets the viewer know where the advertisement is coming from and who is holding this event.

The reason I wanted the font in the middle as this makes it bold and creates an aesthetically pleasing look. The designs fill in the spaces and create a little scene as the flags are in the air and the equipment looks to be on the ground. These designs have an association to sports, which is why they have been used. The flag have an association with a celebration and event. The lines used for the designs are quite thick and cartoon-like. This is because of the age group and how this is most appropriate for them. Colours used are mostly pale and accurate and pastel colours. This is to keep the calm and relaxed feeling for the poster. This poster represents young active students who want to get involved in a team in a relaxed warm environment. These are what I have tried to reflect in my own work. I have done this by using colours and design work that will attract this age group and both genders.

The client had not asked for print based media productions in the past but looking at another sports day poster I was able to compare my own work to it and make a decision about the kind of links I wanted my own design to have.

The kinds of aesthetic qualities we have seem quite different. The 2012 sports poster has lots of bright, vivid and contrasting colours whereas the poster I have created has much paler neutral colours to create a relaxing demeanour. Both posters involve the use of sports to represent exactly what the poster is about. For example in my own poster I have made images of a football and rounder’s bat and ball and the 2012 poster has silhouettes of people using footballs and basketballs.

Both posters involve a date to let the viewer know exactly when this event is taking place. Extra information is given to the audience too. A logo has been use to inform the audience who is running this event. A difference would be the amount of information given to the audience. There is less information on my own poster as this was not given to us and this

Page 3: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

also keeps the audience engaged with a short and simple amount of writing. The 2012 poster has the different events running which might have been helpful to have though as this lets the audience know exactly what will be at this event.

The use of a flag in my own poster is creative as it lets the audience know this is a celebratory event. The use of people is creative in the 2012 poster though as this means the audience is able to think about themselves being in that situation. My work meets the clients’ requirements as it has the date, title and tagline, which are what the client asked for. I have then expanded upon this with other designs. The 2012 poster has a date and title, which is helpful the audience however there is no use of the tagline or any other tagline to draw the audience in which might have been useful.

I was given feedback from peers to add something into the blank space that was on the left hand side corner of the image. This is where I decided to add in a flag because this space needed to be filled in. I used the decoration of the flag to expand my design as well.

The client for this brief was a Modern Foreign Language teacher who wanted to renew their current logo for this topic in Tendring Technology College. They wanted the logo to include the abbreviation MFL to represent the modern foreign language subject.

The target audience was a female and male at the ages of 11 – 18 years old as these are the kinds of people that take this subject anyway. These will be students who study at TTC. They will be taking either French or German. This means they will have an interest in language and learning about varying cultures as a whole. They will be of a mixed age where they will want to see something mature but also something exciting to look at because a lot of the students will still be at a very young age. These students will gradually associate this logo with their time spent studying this subject and the knowledge they have learnt.

I have created this by using the anchor point tool to create the lines and shapes that these famous buildings would have. The path I created was then manipulated by using the ‘stroke path’ tool. This created the lines I needed for these buildings. I then used varying colours to change the shadows and tones of these shapes and create a design that reflects the landmarks well. These buildings have been tilted for an aesthetically pleasing design. This creates a fun quirk in the design. The font used keeps the design very mature for the

older students. I used a bright red colour to contrast with the more neutral tones of the landmarks. This means this writing stands out and is bold on the background. A shadow was used in the back of the font to create a bolder, more intense effect. The composition of the image has been created so these images are all tightly placed together. The font has been placed in the middle as this is a complimentary composition and keeps this the focus of the logo. These designs have been made, as they are an association with the landmarks of France and Germany. The shape and forms have been designed as a simplified version of these landmarks. Tone was used to create the illusion of shadows and lighting. The colour also reflects the colour of the landmarks themselves.

The study of languages is represented with my design. This means both France and Germany. I have tried to represent them with a part of each culture that is well known. This involved their most famous landmarks. My logo has social connotations, as it is a part of a culture. These are 2 modern foreign languages that are taught at TTC. This means these cultures should represent France and Germany. This style is an artistic impression of these landmarks, which has been used to create a simplistic and interesting design. These landmarks are used as they are popularly thought of in their culture. The brief design was a logo that symbolised Modern Foreign Language as a subject. It had to be exciting for students and represent this subject well. I have done this by using an animated design and choosing the designs to use. This MFL logo was created on Photoshop. I used the anchor point tool, the stroke path tool and the fill bucket tool. I also used a font called ‘MORVA’, and the shadow options to create the correct kind of depth.

I think my final design is fairly creative whilst still conforming to the client’s request. The use of cultural landmarks works well and the way it has been designed is fun and exciting still. I think the logo could be improved if brighter colours had been used as this could be more interesting for younger students.

Images of the Eiffel tower and Brandenburg gate were inspiration for my design. I used photographs of these to work out my design, shape and the tones and shadows that should be shown on the design. My design changed from my original idea as I planned on using a much thicker font to start with as I thought this would appeal much more to students however I did not use this as when designing this it felt as if this was not intricate enough for the design.

Page 6: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

My work meets the client’s requirements as they had a very open and achievable expectation of what they wanted and I was able to meet this. This meant I had the space to create something very different and unique to my own style. I got feedback on my logo design from peers. They said the colour of the font was too bright and clashed with the designs in the background and also took attention away from this area. This resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design.

The client for the Drama poster was a drama teacher who wanted students to understand the benefits of drama. These were given from the teacher to add onto the poster. They wanted a poster that reflected these values well. The audience for this poster is a combination of 11-18 year olds as this was written so that students taking drama in Tendring Technology College would think about how it was benefitting them or think about the reasons they might want to take this subject. I produced the design by creating the outline of a clapboard. This has been created in the whole of the poster using the rectangle shape of a clapboard to relate with the shape of the poster. The colour scheme mostly matches a clapboard too. This is because a black and white scheme has been used with just a splash of a pink colour. White lines have also been used slightly to mark the poster as if a clapboard. I used the fill tool to fill in the background with black pint. I then used the gradient effect to create some texture and so the design wasn’t too flat. To create this effect I made a path and then used stroke path so that all the lines were created. I then used the fill tool to colour in these areas I had

created. The writing was copied from the clients email link, which said the words they wanted to be included in the poster.

The composition of my design works well as this links to a clapboard. The headline links to where the title would be along with the lines and the writing areas. There is also good composition as all negative space has been used. The logo is in an area where there were spaces in my design as well as the title and description of what the 11 points were about. The tone used in my design is a gradient as one half of the poster is lighter than the bottom half and these tones fade into each other. Colour has been used well as simple colours have been used but the titles are in a much brighter and bolder colour to grab the viewer’s attention. The pattern used at the top of the image is a pattern used on a lot of clapboards.

Quite a large fraction of Tendring Technology College is represented through the use of this poster. This is because a large fraction of the students take or have the subject Drama. There are stereotypes used in my poster design as the use of a clapboard is often associated with drama. I have represented their admiration for drama using clapboards and titles with bright bold colours.

This drama poster links to social context as drama is about acting and acting is used in films, which have clapboards. The way it has been created means that a broad amount of people will like this idea because of the way that it is very mature yet still enticing in its design. The brief did not speak about any specific kinds of design to be used in my design except that it should link to what the poster is about. This was why my poster is filled with dark colours and bright coloured titles. The technical skills I have achieved are making my whole poster a design. For example I have managed to use the rectangular shape of the poster to create a design of a clapboard. I did this using an anchor point toll to create the lines and then a stoke effect to outline everything.

I think this design has been very creative as I have created the look of a clapboard cleverly and I also changed the look of the logo to match my design. I did this by changing the colour of the writing to match the colour of the titles. Clapboards were a big inspiration as these involve the use of writing, which meant there were several spaces I could include the writing that the client wanted. I changed where I first wanted the title to be as it made more sense to design it this way. This is because this is where the title would most likely be on a clapboard anyway. The work meets the clients expectations as all they wanted was a design that reflected what drama was and the 11 important benefits of drama to be included.

I received feedback from peers in which they mentioned my first original design should have a brighter coloured font to contrast to the background and white lines.

Page 8: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

The client I created these posters for was Mr Rodd who is head of the history department in Thorpe Tendring Technology College. He wanted the logo to be manipulated into a humanised symbol with a graduation hat and scroll. He also wanted slogans such as “If we can do it, so can you!” and Are you aiming for a Pass, Merit or Distinction?” as well as any I could come up with myself. The client also wanted the Use of a red border theme. The client requested the date of when the student’s graduation would be and the use of children beside the logo.

The intended audience are year 7, 8 and 9 students in Thorpe Tendring Technology College. They would be in an E in Social Occupational Classification as they are students. The poster is gender neutral as there is a mix of genders in Tendring Technology College.

I produced the design by using the logo from school, adding different features, using the anchor point tool, using the paint bucket tool, creating silhouettes, choosing fonts and using the rectangle tool

My design works as the colours used on the logo match the TTC logo colours, the limbs and hat are black, the hands are white and the shoes are red. The whole poster matches a colour theme of red, black and white. Any negative space has been covered. There is a big logo and headings for the viewer to see. This has been placed at the top and bottom. The image is always in the middle and all of it has been animated and child-like to fit with this audience.

Year 7, 8 and 9 represented with the use of this design as the poster is for this age group and shows children around this age group. The way these children on the poster are represented is important, as this is symbolic of how the students should be themselves. This is why the poster is showing children who are excited to graduate and get good grades. The TTC logo is shown as a fun, exciting and friendly humanised metaphor for Tendring Technology College.

The social implications this poster links to is education and supporting students being excited to learnThere is a political effect too as the words ‘respect, honesty and responsibility’ explains how TTC wants their students to act and behave.

Page 9: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

There is also an economical factor if it was printed out on recycled paper then this would be better for the environment.Bright colours pop out on the plain backgrounds, which is very popular in our culture.

I have achieved planning and creating a poster with a red border and colour theme to match with the children and humanised logo.

The technical skills I used were the anchor point tool, paint bucket tool, stroke effect and rectangle tool.

I have also used my creativity skills as I have made it as creative as I could whilst still obtaining the limiting specifics from the client. This meant keeping red borders, a black white and red theme, having children with graduation caps jumping in the air in celebration, having a humanised logo in one poster and not the other and finally having the logo and a title like the ones suggested by the client.

I used the original logo to continue with it and expand the design. I got inspiration from other posters used in TTC such as the ‘respect, honesty and responsibility’ posters. I planned my poster to be this way and I did not feel like I needed to alter it too much. I did include the behaviour morals of ‘respect, honesty and responsibility’ on my 2nd poster.

My work meets with the client’s requirements as I have included everything the client originally wanted. The clients requests were realistic however this meant I wasn’t able to come up with any creative designs of my own as they had such a set target of what they wanted already.

I was advised from peers that the use of something in the right hand corner of my 2nd poster might be beneficial, which is why I then used planned some ideas such as ‘respect, honesty and responsibility’ written on the poster.

Page 10: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

The client that asked for this brief was involved in creating a dance show and requested a poster that told the audience when doors open, when the show starts, prices of tickets and concessions, where it’ll be held, title and an aspect that links to dance. The target audience is anyone of any age. There are young students that are included in this dance show so this is aimed at their parents, siblings and also any younger people that are interested in dance.

The target audience will have a broad Social Occupational Classification of A – E as there will be all types of people that would be interested this. The poster is gender neutral and for different income variations and various ages

I produced the design on Photoshop using the paint bucket tool, anchor point tool, stroke effect and clipping mask. Composition of title is wide and spreads out like the dancing silhouettes at the bottom, which matches. Texture used on font to create interesting effect and depth. Colour theme of black, white and pink simple colours with bright vivid colour.

Page 11: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

People who like dance are being represented from all kinds of social groups. I wanted the poster to look dramatic like dance usually is. Several dancing people silhouettes are shown doing different types of dance to embrace all these different variations of dance there are. The social impact this poster has is a link to dance and how this can be enjoyed. This would have a good economical effect if this poster were printed on recycled paper.

There is a strong link to popular culture as bright colour has been used on plain backgrounds to stand out a large amount. The poster is also aimed at being gender neutral so everyone can be shown and feel as if they are free to enjoy dance as this is something everyone will enjoy.

I achieved a good poster that links but at the same time uses colour effectively, and imagery that is exciting and relatable for the viewer. The technical skills I used were on Photoshop. This meant the use of tools such as the anchor point tools stroke effect, paint bucket tool, a font to match theme and clipping mask. The poster design was creative but simple. I have kept it simple with the use of plain colours and a splash of colour but the use of dancers at the bottom make it more interesting and fill in any space that would be unwanted. I got inspiration from the classic dance mats and original games, which have inspired me with their use of silhouettes. I changed my original idea to using a plain background than using an image in the background and instead used to fill in font.

My work meets clients’ expectations, as they wanted a poster that showed all the information that was important for this dance but still kept creativity and a link to what this poster is advertising. This was achievable and took me a while to think of some ideas because of how much freedom this gave me to be creative. I had feedback from peers and they told me a black background would work better as it was originally purple. This is what I changed.

Self Reflection:

Although I did not manage client communications myself, they communicated their ideas through email, which was sent to a student who was given the responsibility to arrange any meetings or get the information necessary. I managed my side of this production well though as I was given the responsibility to read through these emails or the briefs gathered by other students and to base a design on this information. This was something that I did relatively well as each time I was able to make a poster that linked well with these ideas.

I have used both my initiative and independence to come up with an original idea for each design. This was used to create the kind of design I wanted and to make something authentic that also links to the client’s request. I did these using techniques I had learnt in the past or things I experimented with. This was something I did independently as I was coming up with these ideas myself.

I used time management well as my time was spent doing design drawings, planning what would be in the designs and then using Photoshop to make these designs. I had to make sure I could do this in the set time given by the client as this could be set up in

Page 12: cherrierace97.files.wordpress.com · Web viewThis resulted in me changing this font to a slightly darker colour, which matched more harmoniously with the rest of the design. The client

preparation for an event. This means that I had to determine first whether this piece of work could be completed in this set time and how I would do this work in order for me to make a good design but also fit the time requirements. I met the deadlines by making these choices and deciding how I would go about this and fit the time frame. I worked partly out of lessons to fit some of the bigger criteria. This insured I could do the work to the standard I wanted and fir the client’s criteria.

I have used creativity skills as I had to play with different things that would change how aesthetically pleasing the design would be. This means there would be a lot of differences in how the viewer will see this design so by making sure I use my creativity skills I can change the feeling of the poster to how I want it to affect the audience.

The skills I developed my practical skills, by learning multiple things and being practical about time limits and design briefs to make a logical and well-made design. I have lacked in putting some of my skills to practice in general. This is something that I improved on as I have been using these techniques and skills to create something that can be used in a client’s request and in actual life.

I have gained knowledge of multiple skills such as using my design ideas, and my Photoshop skills in general. I gained knowledge with working with clients and working around the client’s requests. This meant I also had to work with lots of factors such as time limits as the designs needed to be created, checked and ready by the event or for the deadline set by the clients. This meant I learnt a lot about problem solving and using my time wisely.
