XSPEC Aviation is comprised of an effective, family team of two that have been leading the way in flight simulation re-manufacturing since Day 1.

William Hill Jr. (Founder / Hardware Engineer) William Hill has an extensive FAA 8130 Avionics repair history at the leading Avionics repair shops in America (IFR, Collins, Cessna) He designs, engineers and installs all the hardware components of our XSPEC simulators and has limited A&P experience. His lifetime of technical expertise and rich people skills have been the embodiment of our ethos at XSPEC Aviation.

Aaron Hill (President / Software Engineer) Aaron Hill is the son of William Hill, and has grown up in the Aviation community. An award-winning programmer (2006 Programming Challenge University of Memphis) who prefers to write in-house software when advantageous; always gets the job done. His ingenuity, resourcefulness and determination have been key to securing the success of XSPEC Aviation on a technical level.

Panel Comparison:The Redbird SD has a glass panel over LCD instruments with correct knob placement. Changing aircraft configurations may require panel and or hardware swapping. This continuous aircraft configuration changing may result in connector hardware failure for the panel and or hardware.

The XSPEC 142 has a metal panel over LCD instruments with correct knob placement. Our knobs are built with the latest technology and use advanced, expensive encoders that do not click when turning and feel very real and have the correct tactile resistance.

The PFC DCX MAX has no LCD cover. It has incorrect instrument knob placement on the side of the LCD screen “instrument panel”. For some this may cause negative training issues when transitioning to a real aircraft.

Simulation Software Comparison:The Redbird SD uses unlicensed Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This is not approved for real world flight training, and using it as such violates the Microsoft End User License Agreement.

The XSPEC 142 uses Lockheed Martin’s PREPAR3D, fully designed for real world flight training and is licensed to do so.

The PFC DCX MAX uses X-Plane 9 Professional, and is designed for real world flight training. The difference between X-Plane and PREPAR3D is the way the software calculates the flight models.

Airplane Configurations Standard:The Redbird SD has 1 airplane configuration standard that you can choose. Extra configurations are about $5,000 per configuration and may require the purchase of more hardware.

The XSPEC 142 has 4 aircraft configurations standard, with more on the way. We use the most popular aircraft in the world; specifically tailored for flight training. We have more Piper configurations on the way due to customer demand!

The PFC DCX MAX has 34 aircraft configurations standard. It’s important to note that some aircraft could be considered redundant and/or unusual aircraft configurations for a training device.

Controls Comparison:The Redbird SD’s controls require hardware swapping to switch from Single Engine to Multi Engine configurations.

The XSPEC 142 does not require electronic hardware swapping; but rather a quick and easy mechanical hardware installation.

The PFC DCX MAX requires hardware swapping to switch from SEL to MEL. Remember; electronic hardware swapping can become a source of headaches and sometimes failure in the unit.

GPS Comparison:The Redbird SD uses Reality XP “G530 Simulation” software. This software is built on the actual Garmin G530 training software for PC. Supports G430 cross fill simulation.

The XSPEC 142 uses Flight1 Tech G530 Simulation Software. Built on the actual Garmin 530 training software for PC. Unlike the Redbird the GPS is a separate piece of equipment- it doesn’t “blend” into the panel. It closely resembles the look and feel of an actual Garmin 530 and supports updatable database per FAA requirement.

The PFC DCX MAX uses Reality XP G530 Simulation software (built for X-Plane). Supports G430 cross fill simulation.

Radios Comparison:The Redbird SD has a Silver Crown stack represented as LCD graphics with extruding buttons and knobs that are built into the glass frame. This is the same glass frame that supports all the knobs and buttons on the panel.

The XSPEC 142 has a Silver Crown stack represented as actual hardware that closely resembles the actual aircraft units. They are not represented in a confusing, hidden or negative training manor.

The PFC DCX MAX has a Silver Crown stack represented with their proprietary radio representation hardware.

Visuals Comparison:The Redbird SD has 6 channel medium size LCD screens that wrap around completely 160 degrees with an emphasis on horizontal view.

The XSPEC 142 has 3 channel large size LCD screens that represent a 180-degree view that is approved for VFR approach training.

The PFC DCX MAX has 3 channel large size LCD screens that wrap around a full 180 degrees.

FAA Approval:All 3 units (Redbird SD, XSPEC 142 and PFC DCX MAX) are all approved by the FAA as “Advanced Aviation Training Devices” (AATD).
