TIMS: Teacher Information Management System,

an on-line process

Why?

* Department of Education (not LHU) awards PA certification to qualified applicants

* Students must apply for certification individually

*LHU will verify your information and recommend you to the state

When do I apply for Certification (TIMS)?

Before you are ready to apply for your Pennsylvania teaching certificate, please be sure you have:

1. Completed the required tests {e.g. PRAXIS (www.ets.org/praxis/pa) or Pennsylvania Educator Certification Tests

(PECT: www.pa.nesinc.com)} and have requested to have your scores sent to PDE.

2. Have a final Lock Haven University transcript that includes your cumulative GPA (available on myHaven). Do not begin your application before final grades have been posted.

3. Know what certification(s) you are applying for – review the complete list of certification codes available in the PDE application booklet or on the PDE website.

Tips for Successfully Using TIMS

Provide only requested and relevant information

If you cannot move to the next section of an application:

• Read the information provided on the screen and under the help icon

• Fill required fields denoted with red asterisk (*)

• Check for error messages which appear in red in the upper left corner

How to Register for TIMS1. Open the PDE Website by typing the following URL into your

browser: www.education.pa.gov 2. Hover the mouse over “Teachers & Administrators”3. Click “Certifications” from the drop down menu

4. Select “TIMS” (Certification Application System) Log In”

5. If you need to register for a username and password, click “Register” (this is a ONE-TIME process; after registration process is completed, go to step 6)

One-Time Registration Process

Complete the registration form• Information with red * asterisk

must be supplies• Use a permanent personal

email address (not one issued by LHU or an employer)

• Create your User ID• It should NOT have spaces• It is NOT case sensitive

• Create your Password• It IS case sensitive• It must have at least one:

• Capital Letter, Lower case letter, number or visible symbol

• It should NOT have spaces• Record your User ID and

Password

Post Registration Delay

After successfully completing and submitting the registration form you must

wait for a registration confirmation email

before you may log into TIMS for the first time

It may take up to 24 hours to receive the confirmation

Subsequently, logging in will take you directly to your dashboard

Select the Help & Support link for log in and provisioning assistance

Accessing TIMS After Login Registration

Navigate to www.education.pa.gov Select Certifications from the Teachers &

Administrators menu in the upper right corner

Select TIMS (Certification Application System

Log in Using the Username and Password Previously Established

Enter your Username and Password, then click on the Log In button

Establish Your TIMS Profile

This is a ONE-TIME process (You will proceed directly to the dashboard on future visits)

Read both notes before entering information Click on the Continue button

PPID Notification

Your PPID is displayed upon completion of the profile. Write down 7-digit number for future

reference

Click on the OK button to continue

Welcome to the TIMS “Dashboard” (Home Page)

Click on ‘View & Update My Profile” to update your personal information

Update Your Profile

Grayed out fields, such as your name, social security number and citizenship, may be changed using the link(s) provided

Gender, address, email address, phone number and an employment participation response is required

Once your username and password have been confirmed, the Home page will be launched again showing that you are logged in.

Things to keep in mind

1. Make sure you fill out everything to avoid

delays in the processing of your application

• The area that causes the most confusion is the

Education Information so be sure to include the :

Institution Name, State, Country, Degree Conferred,

Major subject area and if attended the Educator Prep

Program

• You will then have to look up the Ed. Prep Program

and add it

Once you select that you received a degree and completed an approved program you will see the next screen…

(Note you should NOT be applying for certification if you have not graduated!)

Once you have selected your major subject area you will need to elect your Educator Prep Program. ELML students will be given a dropdown menu based on what you selected as your major subject area(s). Once complete select “Add”

You will need to answer all of the questions before you can proceed.

If you do not currently hold any certifications please hit “NEXT”

You will be prompted for your payment information (CC or Money Order)

You will need to submit again (This will ensure your show up on my system)

Please be sure to check your TIMS inbox at least daily. If PDE needs anything

from you they will usually communicate it through your TIMS account.
