ROTEX® Torsionally flexible couplings
Description of coupling - Spider material
ROTEX® Accouplements élastiques
Description des accouplements,Types d’anneaux dentés
ROTEX® couplings are small in size, low in weight and centrifugal mass yet transmit high torques. Running qua-lity and durability are positively improved by all-over machining.Their application is ideal for transmitting torque and damping the torsional vibrations produced by the unevenrunning of certain prime movers.

General descriptionROTEX® couplings are torsionally flexible and designed for positive torque transmission. They are fail-safe.Operational vibrations and shocks are efficiently attenuated and reduced. The two congruent coupling halves withconcave claws on the inside are peripherally offset in relation to one another by half a pitch. In addition, they are designed in such a way as to enable an involute spider to be located between them. The teeth of the spider are crowned to avoid edge pressure if the shafts are misaligned. ROTEX® couplings are capable therefore of compen-sating axial, radial and angular displacements of the shafts which they connect. Performance As distinct from other flexible couplings, the intermediate members of which are subject to bending and are thereforeprone to more rapid wear, the flexible teeth of ROTEX® couplings are exposed only to pressure. This gives the additio-nal advantage of the individual teeth being able to support considerably higher loads. The maximum torsion anglewith ROTEX® couplings of any size amounts to 5°. They can be fitted both horizontally or vertically.
SpidersAn operating temperature range of – 40° C to + 100° C ensures perfect operation, transient temperatures up to + 120°C cannot damage the coupling. Continuous improvement of materials has resulted in a standard spider of 92 Shore Awhich offers various advantages by comparison with conventional polyurethanes. For higher torques it is also possibleto make use of a 95 - 98 Shore A spider and one with 64 Shore D-F.The spider is extremely resistant to wear oil, ozone and ageing. Particularly noteworthy is its resistance to hydrolysis(ideal for tropical climates). Owing to the high internal attenuation the drive is protected against excessive dynamicloading.

Above listed values of displacement for elastic ROTEX®-couplings are standard values taking account of the torque rating of the coupling up to the nominal torque TKN and nominal speed of1500 l/min, as well as an ambient temperature of +30° C. With drives subjected to varying service conditions please ask for our ROTEX® Data-sheet on displacement, KTR-N 20240. The dis-placement data may only be used one by one - if they appear simultaneously, they must be limited in proportion.Care should be taken to maintain precise shaft separation in order to have axial clearance for the coupling in service. In case of an axial shifting the distance “L” has to be a miniumum inorder to keep the spider free of pressure on its faces. If the shaft separation is shorter than the coupling distance “E” it does not matter if one of the shaft ends enters the spider. The dimensi-on dW corresponds to the max. shaft diameter which together with the key may enter a spider with inner diameter dH. If it is possible to keep the key at some distance from the shaft end i.e. ifonly the shaft enters the spider, the diameter of the shaft may be larger. If should, however, be 2 mm smaller than the inner diameter of the spider to allow the latter free axial movement. The ROTEX®-coupling can cope either with a radial or an angular displacement. The life of the coupling can be maximised by careful and accurate alignment of the shaft. The shaft ends to belinked should be supported on both sides close to the coupling halves. The customer must provide appropriate guards in order to ensure that rotating parts cannot be touched, as required bysafety laws. (Safety of machines, DIN EN 292, part 2). Assembly instructions are available for the individual types of couplings.Sanitation: Any defect parts of the coupling must be cleaned and scrapped.

Coupling selection programmeKTR was the first coupling manufacturer to develop a program for the selection of couplings.
The program “Kupplungen” is a selection program allows you to represent ROTEX torsionally flexible, BoWex curved-tooth and RADEX-N steel lamina couplings dimensionally and graphically. Apart from the selection of the right coupling “Kupplungen” facilitates the ordering and production of accurate to size drawings. The drawings can be transferred into your CAD system by means of a DXF file.
Please order the selection programme free ofcharge at our hotline 05971-798300.
