3 Pre-Race Information

3.1 Emergency contact

3.2 Ironman Lanzarote Information Centre

The Ironman Information Centre is located in International Sports Resort Club La Santa, organizer and

license holder of the Ironman Lanzarote. The resort is approx. 20 minutes’ drive from the airport.

There is a shuttle service available between race venue Puerto del Carmen and Club La Santa (more

information in section 13).

During opening hours, you are welcome to relax in the Athletes Lounge, located in the Information

Centre. Free refreshments, tea and coffee will be available and DVD’s of previous Ironman Lanzarote

events will be on show.

3.3 Registration procedure onsite/ collecting race pack

You must personally collect your race pack. Please prepare the following before approaching the

registration desk:

- Bib/ Race number Please find your race number on the final participants list which will be available after the 10th of May 2013 on our Website www.ironmanlanzarote.com and in the hall of the Information Centre at Club La Santa the week prior the event.

- Valid photo ID card

- Valid 2013 Triathlon license If you haven’t received the actual 2013 card from your federation yet, we kindly ask you to show us another type of documentation in which your federation recognizes your membership for 2013. If you do not have a license, you must buy a Spanish one-day license at the registration centre (10 € in cash). Please do this at the designated desk before approaching the registration desk. At the registration desk, you will need to: - Last check of your personal details All athletes must check all personal registration details, such as; birthday, age group (note: as per the rules of the World Triathlon Corporation, all age group athletes will be assigned to the relevant age group category according to their year of birth), first/ last name, emergency contact details, etc.

- Sign the athlete Waiver The Waiver you have approved upon online registration has to be signed by each athlete personally at registration in order to accept the conditions of participation (in case of late arrival and impossibility to sign the waiver at registration please contact

[email protected]). Enclosed you will find a copy of the waiver; please familiarize yourself with it to ensure a speedy registration.

In your registration pack you will receive:

- 2 start numbers and 8 safety pins

- 1 timing chip (the organization will provide you with one disposable chip from MyLaps to be put on the velcro band around your ankle. No payment of a deposit for the timing chip will be requested, however we kindly ask you to return it after the finish to the organization, together with the velcro band. The use of private timing chip is not permitted)

- 1 ankle band

- 1 athlete security wristband (to access the Transition Zone, Pasta Party, Award Ceremony); this will be handed at the entrance of the Information Centre.

- 3 transition bags (warming up/ swim, bike and run bag)

- 1 swim cap

- 1 bike sticker to wrap around the seat post

- 2 supporter stickers (optional)

- 2 stickers to put on your personal bottles during the run course (optional)

- 3 small adhesive labels (stickers) for helmet

- 3 big adhesive labels (stickers) for the transition bags

- Extra pasta party/ award ceremony tickets (only in case this has been ordered and pre-paid at online registration!)

- Race Programme

- Instruction sheet for the use of the registration pack content

- 1 exclusive Ironman Lanzarote bag pack with promotional goodies from the organizer and associated sponsors

If they wish to have their personal food on the bike course, they can ask for a “Special feed bag” at the Information desk

All athletes must have accepted the race rules (WTC and Spanish triathlon Federation rules, as published upon online and onsite registration).

3.4 Pre-Race Briefing

The participation in the pre-race briefing is mandatory. The Briefing will take place at the square of Club

La Santa on Thursday, the 16th of May 2013:

Meeting in English: 15.00 hrs.

Meeting in German: 15:45hrs.

Meeting in French: 16:30 hrs.

Meeting in Spanish: 17:15 hrs.

The compulsory Race Briefing will provide an overview of the most important race and rule information

and will inform you about any possible last minute change. This race briefing will be also displayed on a

large TV screen during opening hours in the Information Centre.

3.5 Parade of Nations

The Parade of nations will start at the Stadium, Club La Santa on Thursday 16th of May at 18.30 hrs.

All athletes participating in the Parade will receive a raffle ticket to win a Cannondale Bike, by showing

their security wristband. The raffle will be drawn at the end of the parade, in the Square.

3.6 Pasta Party

The Pasta party is on the Thursday prior to race at the Atlantico terrace, Club La Santa and is free for

all athletes. Friends and family are welcome to join in (tickets are available at Atlantico Restaurant

door, Club La Santa - 20 € per adult and 10 € per child).

3.7 Bike/ Bag check-in

The Bike/ Bag check-in will take place on Friday the 17th of May 2013 between 15:00-18:00 hrs. in

the Transition Zone in Puerto del Carmen. Only athletes and official staff with a security wristband are

allowed to enter the Transition Zone. It is not allowed for coaches, family, relatives or friends to join the

athletes in the Transition Zone, except for Wheelchair athletes and/ or athletes with special needs.

Athletes staying at the Race Hotel Club La Santa, will have the possibility to use the shuttle bus to

Puerto del Carmen. The bikes will carefully be installed on a truck by official Club La Santa bike tech

support. Please remember to register for this service in the Information Centre (more information in

section 12. of this Athlete guide).

Bike check-in

The Bike check-in will take place at the main entrance of the Transition Zone area and will be

conducted by the official referees. They will check your brakes, handlebars, gear shifters, and helmet

etc. in accordance with the rules of WTC and the Spanish Triathlon Federation. Please make sure that

your bike label is clearly put under the saddle, visible from the left side and that the 3 adhesive labels

are correctly placed on your helmet (front and both sides). In case of any mechanical problems, you

can get assistance from the official bike tech support that are also available in the entrance of the

Transition Zone.

Remember to ensure the following on your bike:

- Enough air in the tubes?

- Front and rear brakes are operable?

- End plugs are on handle bars?

- Wheels enough tightened?

- Changing gears?

- No loose headsets?

- No stripped cables?

We advise the athletes to bring extra inner tubes/ tires, chain link and a pump. A mobile bike tech

support team will be on the course (see chapter 5 of this athlete guide) but they might not be available

immediately. Three or ten minute loss on such a long distance is nothing compared to the

disappointment of giving up after long months of physical preparation.

After the official check-in you will need to place your bike in the designated bike racks, numbered

according to race/ bib number. Please rack your bike by hanging it from the front of the saddle.

When you return from the bike course, you will need to park your bike according to marshals’

indication at the designated rack section (more information in section 4.5 of this Athlete Guide).

It is not allowed to leave anything (clothes, shoes, helmet, towel, etc.) on the ground next to your bike.

Athletes are permitted to leave bike shoes clipped to the bike. After the bike check-in the referees will

remove any item left on the ground and hand in to the Information Point inside the Transition Zone.

Bike check-in closes at 18:00 hrs. After this time, no more bikes will be accepted into the Transition

Zone.

Athletes will have access to their bike on race morning, but they are not allowed to remove their bike

from the transition zone until the official Bike Check out time (see chapter 4.8 of this Athlete Guide).

Please be careful and do not leave your bike unattended when you leave it outside the transition zone!

Always lock it or keep an eye on it. The organization cannot be held responsible for theft outside the

secure bike zone in the transition area.

Bag check-in

At the onsite registration you will receive 3 Transition Bags with your race pack at the registration

desks and you can optionally request a special feedbag at the Information desk.

The race bib stickers must be attached on each of the transition bags before handing them in the

different areas as below mentioned.

Volunteers will be available at all times in the bag areas. It is possible to access the bags on race day,

but only if needed!

Security guards and cameras will be onsite at all times to protect your bike and bags. However, we

recommend athletes not to leave any valuable items (sun glasses, computers devices, etc.) on the

bikes overnight. It is possible to access your bike in the race morning for the last preparations.

3.8 Parking

Please follow the directions of the Security Guards and Police officers for the parking area at Club La

Santa and race venue Puerto del Carmen before and on race day. Please be aware that from Thursday

morning prior the race until race day, the transition zone at Avenida de Las Playas, Puerto del Carmen

will be closed to traffic and an alternative route will be used.

4 Race Information

4.1 Transition Zone

The Transition Zone is located in the Avenida de Las Playas, in Puerto del Carmen. The Transition Zone

is completely closed off and the only access is at the side of Hotel Fariones.

Every athlete must be identifiable at all times during, before and after the race and in the official race

areas (transition areas, Award ceremony, Pasta Party, etc.). It is therefore compulsory to wear your

security wristband, which you get at the onsite registration, and to respect the orders of the security

guards, police officers, official staff and referees. Infringement of this regulation can be cause for

exclusion from the race or subsequent disqualification, regardless of the exact moment of

determination of the infringement.

Only athletes in the race, volunteers and organization with the according authorization are permitted to

enter the transition zone. Coaches, private support staff and spectators may not enter the transition

areas.

The different facilities are available in the Transition Zone:

- Changing tent (TZ1 on the beach and TZ2 on the road)

- VIP area and seats

- First aid

- Portable toilets

- Showers (only public showers on the beach)

- Massage (in TZ1 on the beach after the race)

- Restaurant

- Water station

- Anti doping room

- Information Point (open to both athletes and public)

4.2 Swim course

The swim course is 3.8km and takes place at the sand beach “Playa Grande bay” in Puerto del

Carmen. It is a two-lap-course of 1.9km with a short running passage (about 20m) between the two

laps.

Please remember to wear your numbered swim cap (race number at the left side) and timing chip (at

your left ankle). There will be no body marking on race morning.

Swim cap colors

Pro Men: Yellow

Age group Women: Pink

Age group Men: Orange

Some athletes might wear different color swim cap in order to be recognized by the press/

organization.

Drop off warm-up/ swim bag

Once you are on the beach, you will have to drop off your warm-up/ swim bag in the changing tent.

(TZ1). Volunteers will be available to take your bag and to offer Vaseline and sun cream if needed.

Compulsory use of official beach entrance and timing chip control

After the warm-up bag drop each participant must enter the beach through the official entrance that

opens at 06:15hrs. and must pass the chip control at the beach, before entering the start chute.

Volunteers will be available at the beach in case you have any last minute doubts/ problems.

Start

There will be one mass start, all athletes will have the same start time. The beach will be divided into 3

sections; the Pro athletes (male & female) will start at the front of the beach. Swimmers who expect

their swimming time to be under 65 minutes should start behind the first arch. All other swimmers

who would like to have a safer and quieter swim start should line up behind the last arch. It is

important that you select the correct swim group to suit your pace.

Advice

- Try to relax and visualize the swim segment.

- Ensure to wear the numbered swim cap provided to you at registration and check your goggle strap.

- If you are not a pro-athlete, try to consider your starting position; i.e. stronger swimmers to the front,

weaker swimmers towards the back.

- The first turn is rather close to the beach; do not swim too closely to the buoy where you could get

crushed by other swimmers.

- It is the responsibility of the individual athlete to be familiar with the swim course. The own swim

training transfers organized the week prior to race are a good opportunity to be introduced to the

swim course (more information at the Information Centre).

- There is often a current in Playa Grande bay, which you will usually find helpful!

- As you exit the water at the end of your first lap, use the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere and the

applause of the spectators.

- Upon exiting the water (after the first and final lap), ensure that you still have your timing chip in place

ahead of passing the timing mats. Should you need a replacement chip, please approach the

volunteers at the beach start.

- If you have any problems during the swim, simply signal to the rescue boats and they will come and

assist you.

- Cut off time for the swim section: 09:20 am

4.3 Swim/ Bike transition

After the swim, you will run towards the transition area. Wetsuits may be opened and be stripped off

to the hips, but can only be removed entirely inside the transition tent. You must collect your own Bike

bag (blue) outside the changing tent on the beach (TZ1) and change in the tent (there is a separated

area available for women). Nudity outside the tent is not permitted. Volunteers are available to help

with sunscreen protection. When you exit the tent, leave your bag at the drop off area at the exit of the

tent. You will then run up to the bike parking where you will find a water station (only water) and

buckets of water to rinse your feet. You then approach your bike, first fasten your helmet and then

remove your bike from the rack and push it to the exit (at the official finish tower). Check your race

number: it must not be altered and should be clearly visible on the back affixed with safety pins or

elastic band. Also check your chip band. If you have lost your chip and/ or race number, you must

collect another one in the Information Point near the Finish area. You may begin riding once past the

exit point at the official finish tower.

In the case of abandoning the race during/ after the swim, please be aware that you cannot remove

your bike and bag until the last swimmer has left on the bike course. You can only leave the transition

zone with your bike and bag, once you have contacted the Organization in the Information Point in the

Transition zone area.

Advice - In case of last minute mechanical problem, the race bike mechanics are available in the Transition zone - In case you have forgotten/ lost any race gear, please contact the Information Point in the Transition zone area. We might be able to lend you spare equipment.

4.4 Bike course

The 180.2 K bike course, challenges athletes with the strong northern winds and consists of one loop

all around the island, with a total climb of 2550 above sea level. Most of the bike circuit is open to

traffic (except for some sections in the northern part of the island) and circulation is controlled by the

police. Please be careful at all times. Obey all police officers under all circumstances

Yellow arrows with the Text Ironman Lanzarote will be put on the course one week before the actual

race. Police/marshals will be at all crossings during race day. In case of dangerous sections (downhill,

wind, narrow roads, etc.), “slowing down” signs will be installed.

Please be aware that you may encounter strong side winds, especially in the northern part of the

island. For this reason, although according to WTC rules disk wheels are allowed, we do not

recommend using them for the Ironman Lanzarote race.

Be especially careful on the following villages/ sections of the Bike course:

- Tinajo: downhill through village

- La Santa village: speed bumps in the end of the downhill

- Famara: possible sand on the road

- Mirador de Haria: downhill with hairpins

- Mirador del Rio: downhill with hairpins and strong side winds

- Nazaret: poor road condition

- Last 8k: downhill - Keep to the right.

Although athletes must make any necessary repairs to their bike during the race using their own tools

and without assistance, they may accept assistance from the supporting bike mechanics. There will be

a mobile bike support team on the bike course, as well as bike support at fixed point on the bike course

(see chapter 5).

On the bike course we have 10 aid stations (please also see section 4.9 of this Athlete guide) including

the special feed & one water station. A sign will indicate each aid station 400m in advance. A bottle

drop will be available just before the aid station.

Advice:

- The following gearing is advised: back 13-24 & front 52-39

- A good preparation includes familiarize yourself with the bike course before the race, if possible

during training camps in Lanzarote. The yellow Ironman Lanzarote signs will be installed one week

before the actual race.

- Cut off time for the bike course is: 18:30hr./ 6:30 pm

4.5 Bike/ run transition

When you come back from the bike course, please dismount in the entrance of the bike chute (at the

official finish tower), pass the timing mats and proceed on foot (with your helmet fastened) and park

your bike according to marshals’ indication. Bikes will be parked according to athletes’ bike finish time

in TZ. Volunteers will be assisting participants in parking their bikes in the correspondent rack.

You will then continue to the bag area where you will have to take your own bag (volunteers will not

hand you the bag!) and run into the changing tent on the road (TZ2). After changing into your running

clothes, please leave your bag at the drop off area in the exit of the tent.

Volunteers are available to help with sunscreen protection in the transition tent.

It is not allowed to take your bike before the bike cut off time (18:30 h.). If volunteers are not too busy,

it is possible to get your transition bags. The official bike check out starts at 18:30hrs in the main

entrance of the Transition Zone. It is not allowed to take your bike out of the Transition zone another

way than through the main entrance.

4.6 Run course

The run course is 42.2k and consists of 3 laps: first one of 21.10 Km. up to Playa Honda and then two

laps of 10.55 Km. each. This course is run on the flat seafront along the Avenida de Las Playas in

Puerto del Carmen. The first kilometer on the run course is on the bike lane, after that on tarmac.

Athletes will be handed a colored elastic band at the completion of each lap. It is the athlete’s

responsibility to receive the wristbands in order to be classified as a finisher by entering the finish area.

Please remember to pass the timing mats on the different turning points of the run course! If you do

not pass the mats, you will not have your split time which means that you will be disqualified from the

race.

- Cut off time for the marathon is 24:00 hours (midnight).

4.7 Finish

We allow you to cross the finish line together with your family, but please be careful not to block the

way to the participants running behind you. Remember that everyone crossing the finish line would like

to have a great finisher picture! Families are not allowed to stay inside the Transition zone and

therefore they will be guided to leave the gate at the finish line as soon as the athlete has finished.

As you cross the Finish line, you will get your finisher medal. Massages provided by the students of two Massage Therapy schools will be available in the TZ1 Tent on a first-come, first-serve basis. The race restaurant will be available to all finishers for refueling and relaxing. In the Information Point you can collect your official Finisher polo & wristband, and the timing slip by returning chip & Velcro band. Containers will be available to collect timing chips and Velcro bands at the Information Centre.

Online diploma with split times will be available in the website www.ironman.com soon after the race.

Red Cross assistants will be at the finish line for those who need medical treatment. The medic facility

4.8 Bag and bike check out

You can collect your Transition bags (from the beach changing tent) and bike only after the bike cut off time at 18:30pm. This is to keep the transition area clear for the athletes still racing. Your bike will be placed according to your bike finish time; please check your timing slip to find where your bike is parked. Volunteers will be available to assist you finding your bike. Please note that there is only one exit for check out, at the end of the Transition Zone (opposite side of finish tower), where you need to show your race number to leave with your equipment. Bikes need to be collected from the Transition zone no later than 00:30 hrs. The Organization will not take any responsibility for any loss after that time. Bikes that will be transported back to Club La Santa after the race (only for Club La Santa guests) will be placed at the Badminton Hall (security will be available at all times). These bikes must be collected between 9-13 hrs. on Sunday morning after the race (please remember to bring your ID!).

Showers

There are no showers in the Transition Zone, but athletes can use the open public showers on the

beach.

4.9 Aid stations

Run Course Five aid stations are located at a distance of approx. 2km. apart. No personal feedbags are available on the run course; however, participants can hand in drinks or food labelled with the race number which will be available in a specific area at 50 mt. from aid station nr.1 (personal food for the run course must be deposited by athletes Saturday morning, before the race start, in the transition zone in Puerto del Carmen).

The drinks on the Bike Course will be given in bike bottles of 700ml. Be aware that those bike bottles contain either Red Bull or energy drink (there will be clear street signs to distinguish the tables with different bottles)!

The drinks on the aid station for the Run course will be given in big cups.

Bike aid stations – Reminders and Safety: - Signs will be posted approx. 400 m. before each Aid station and it is your own responsibility to secure items you require. - At the Aid-station clear signs will indicate the content of each table. - If you need to stop at the Aid-station for first aid, toilet or other emergency, move to the right of passing cyclists, slow down, enter the station area just before one of the tables and dismount - Discard empty bike bottles in the designated area located at the approach of each Aid-station (it is not possible to recuperate your personal bike bottle after the race).

After the finish line you will be able to enjoy a nice meal, sandwiches and refreshments in the Race restaurant.

Drinks and food on aid stations will only be given by volunteers of the organization. It is not allowed to have personal helpers on all aid stations except for the designated area close to aid station number 1 on the run course.

Personal fuel/ Special feed bag:

Bike course: At the onsite registration, you can request a special feedbag for the bike course. Crew will clearly write your race number on the bag. You can drop the bag off on Race morning between 05-06:30 hrs in the designated area in the Transition Zone.

The organization will place the bags in racks in numerical orders 50m after the aid-station n.7 at 104 Km. When you arrive at the special station, you need to make sure that your race number is visible. The athlete must stop and take his/ her own bag from the rack. Volunteers will assist, but they will not hand you the bag. Please note that the uncollected bags will not return to Puerto del Carmen/ Club La Santa after the race. Do not leave anything valuable in the special feed bag!

Run course: Personal food can be handed in on race morning between 05-6:30hrs in the designated area at the entrance of the Transition Zone. The athlete needs to label the personal food/ drinks with the race number stickers provided by the organization.

The organization will place all personal aliments on a table 50m after the first aid-station on the run course. When you arrive at the special station, you need to make sure that your race number is visible. You must stop and take your own food from the table. Please note that uncollected items will not be returned to Club La Santa after the race.

In a designated area 50 m. after aid station n.1, supporters are allowed to handle personal food to the athletes - only place in the race where coaching (handling personal food) is permitted. The handling of personal food is athletes’ own responsibility. Supporters are allowed to run a few steps with the athlete when handing over personal food.

4.11 Road closure and spectator points

Swim Course: spectators will be able to live the excitement of the race start at the beach Playa

Grande, Puerto del Carmen.

Bike course: traffic will be open on race day, except for the Northern part of the Island. Please be

careful and respect the rules, the Marshalls and the local police/ Guardia civil on the course.

The best spots for spectators to gather will be Mancha Blanca (Tinajo), La Santa, Caleta de Famara

and Teguise.

Run course: the leg will take place in Avenida de Las Playas (Puerto del Carmen) which will be closed to

traffic since several days prior to race – this area is the perfect venue for spectators to cheer up

participants in the afternoon. The Race will be shown live on the big screen at the Finish line.

4.12 Information Point in the Transition Zone

An Information Point will be available inside the Transition Zone (with access window to public) on the

following days/ times:

The organization will have a complete overview of athletes who didn’t complete the race.

Official finishers

Official finishers can collect their Finisher polo and timing slip from the Information Point upon

scanning the disposable timing chip and returning the Velcro band.

Results/ timing/ penalties

Provisional results will be available in the Information Point and will be regularly published in/

outside the Transition Zone on race day. The timing team will be at participants’ disposal in

case of timing problems.

Lost & Found

Any lost and found will be brought to the Information Point on Race day. After closure all items

will be brought to the Information Centre at Club La Santa (see chapter 9.4).

4.13 IRONMAN Shop

Ironman articles will be on sale at the Expo and Information Centre, Club La Santa and in the Transition area in Puerto del Carmen (shop and kiosk). The week after the Ironman, Ironman articles will be on sale at the Sports Shop in Club La Santa and the Shop in Puerto del Carmen (Los Cocoteros Apartment, Avenida de Las playas, until May 21st at 14:00).

6 Medic and emergency

The race doctors will be available at the AZ Clinic at Club La Santa (opposite reception) during the onsite registration days.

If you are suffering from health problems such as asthma, diabetes, arterial hypertension, cardiac diseases, metabolic diseases, etc. please inform the race doctor before race day.

If you are under treatment, please make sure that the medicine you are taking is not included in the 2013 prohibited list - World Anti-doping Code (more info at www.ironmanpromembership.com). If you have a medical certificate issued from your federation, please hand it in to the registration staff at registration.

We kindly ask you to write your full name, blood type, any allergies you might have and any other important medical information on the back of your race number. The medic team has a list of all competitors’ emergency contact details. If these contact details have changed, please inform the registration staff and/ or write it on the back of your race number.

Advice: ¨

We recommend all athletes to share the race day emergency contact below with those who may need to reach you in an emergency: Race Day Emergency Contact - 0034 686 31 82 66 or email: [email protected]

We advise athletes to protect themselves against the burning sun with high factor lotion. They should avoid long exposure to the sun two days before the race and use a cap, light clothing and sunglasses during the race. On race day volunteers are ready to help the athletes with high factor lotion in the transition zone in the dressing area.

Medical aid: If you require first aid, please inform the nearest volunteers. Please remain where you are when you call for medical assistance. If you drop out or are pulled from the race at any time, turn in your chip to the Info Point inside the transition zone or to a race official. It is important that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety.

After reaching the finish line, a medical team will be ready to assist athletes at the medical tent. The medical tent is inside the transition zone and access is for athletes only; family members are not allowed. For information on an athlete receiving medical treatment at the tent, please contact the Info Point in the transition zone.

If athletes have any problems during the race, all aid stations will be in contact with the medical Team in order to get medical assistance, if needed.

Security/ “Punto 0”:

On race day there will be a control centre “Punto 0” for security, police, Emerlan, Civil Protection and Red Cross. This control centre is near the Transition Zone. As soon as an emergency arises the central is located and help will be sent out. All DNF (do not finish) are also reported to “Punto 0”. The Information Point inside the Transition Zone (with a window to the public side) and “Punto 0” are in direct contact with each other throughout Race Day. Friends/ Family must contact the Information Point to get information about the race or about an athlete.

7 Environment

Lanzarote has being declared a World Biosphere site by UNESCO since 1993.

We therefore ask all athletes, family members/ relatives to respect the island of Lanzarote in any way possible:

- Please refrain from painting (Graffiti, paint, crayon, chalk) the roads along the course. This defaces public property and is a punishable offence.

- Do not litter. Keep your energy bar and gel wrappers with you until you find a garbage bin (e.g. at the aid stations).

- At the aid stations you will be offered another bike bottle with liquids. You can throw away your own bike bottle just before the aid station in a designated net.

Only use toilets provided in the transition area and on the bike- and run course. A violation will result in a shown yellow card.

8 Doping

Doping is prohibited. After finishing the race the Anti-Doping-Commission will conduct anti-doping-tests

without further notification. Doping will result in disqualification.

9 Post-race information 9.1 Hawaii Slot allocation/ Registration

The Ironman Lanzarote is an official qualifying competition in Europe for the 2013 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona Hawaii (www.ironmanworldchampionship.com) taking place on the 12th of October 2013.

The Ironman Lanzarote awards 40 slots for this Championship that are allocated to age groups according to the number of participants in each group, guaranteeing always at least one slot in each group.

Upon online registration each athlete must indicate if he/ she want to qualify for Hawaii. It is not possible to change this status after registration!

The final slot allocation for Hawaii 2013 will be published the day before the event at 3pm at the Ironman Information Centre, the Information desk in the Transition Zone and on our website www.ironmanlanzarote.com.

Athletes who qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii 2013 must be present at the slot allocation on Sunday May 19th 2013 at 11:00 hrs. In the Square of Club La Santa in order to accept the slot and register personally (remember to bring a valid ID card). Each winner will receive a

Contestant Information Package with application instructions and an official Ironman Qualification Certificate. The entry fee for the World Championship is 775 USD, and is payable in dollars or the equivalent amount in Euros (the corresponding amount in Euros will be announced the day before the event at 3pm at the race venue), cash only. The One day US license is 12 USD and has to be bought during the online registration.

The Ironman Lanzarote is a qualifying points race (professional category only). For further information regarding the Ironman Qualifying points please visit the Website: www.ironmanpromembership.com.

9.2 Prize money and Awards Dinner/ Ceremony

Prize Money: The top 6 male and 6 female finishers in the professional class are eligible for the prize money*. The total prize money is US$ 25.000. The distribution will be as follows:

1st: $5.000 2nd: $2.750 3rd: $1.750 4th: $1.250 5th: $1.000 6th: $750

* The prize money will be paid after deduction of personal tax, according to the international agreements for each country.

The prize money will be paid to the athletes by bank transfer (bank commissions will be deducted) after the results of the anti-doping control are known and confirmed as negative. The Organization will email all the instructions to receive the prize money to Winners, several days after the race.

Trophies for: - Top 10 men and women in the Pro category - First resident athlete in Lanzarote (male & female) - Top 3 men and women - military category (please inform staff if you are in the military and therefore eligible for this award when registering). - Top 3 in each age group (male & female). As per the rules of the World Triathlon Corporation, all age group athletes will be assigned to the relevant age group category according to their year of birth.

Ironman Age groups (female & male category): 18-24/ 25-29/ 30-34/ 35-39/ 40-44/ 45-49/ 50-54/ 55-59/ 60-64/ 65-69/ 70-74/ 75-79 / 80+

Awards Dinner and Ceremony: The Awards Dinner and Ceremony will take place at Club La Santa on Sunday the 19th of May. The Awards Dinner starts at 18.30hrs and the Ceremony at 20.00 hrs. All athletes are invited to join for free. Tickets for family and friends are available in the Ironman Information Centre (Club La Santa) at 32 euros per adult and 17 euros per child.

After the Ceremony, the video of the Ironman Lanzarote 2013 will be on at both the Ironman Tent and the Square, followed by live music and fireworks.

Bus transportation after the Award Ceremony back to Puerto del Carmen will be available. Find more information in chapter 12 of this Athlete Guide.

9.3 Photographers

FinisherPix is proud to be selected as the Official Photo service of the IRONMAN LANZAROTE. On race day, FinisherPix will have several photographers working at the swim exit, on the bike course, on the run course, and of course, at the Finish Line!

9.4 Lost & Found

On race day, all lost and found will be brought to the Information Point inside the Transition Zone. At closure on race day, we will bring it all to the Information Centre in Club La Santa. You can come and collect any lost items on Sunday morning between 09:30-14:00 hrs. After Sunday 14:00 hrs. we will leave all the lost/ found at Club La Santa Reception.

9.5 Information

9.6 Results

During the race, results will be put up regularly in and outside the Transition Zone in Puerto del Carmen.

After your finish, you will be able to get a print of your provisional times in the Information Point inside the Transition Zone. In case of official complaints about your results, please inform immediately the staff in the Information Point (before midnight). After closure of the Transition Information Point you must direct complaints about your times or possible penalties to the Information Centre at Club La Santa between 09:30-10:00hrs on Sunday morning after the race. Later than10:00 hr. it is no longer possible to make any changes in the results. On race day provisional results will be published in www.ironman.com.

9.7 Diplomas

All official finishers of the Ironman Lanzarote can download their certificate from www.ironman.com, soon after the race.
