seating technology, Contessa represents a

refinement of function, comfort and style.

Contessa’s smart operation concept enables

adjustments to be easily made while the user

is seated, encouraging accurate positioning

and continuous movement.

Contessa’s mesh serves both function and

aesthetics, suspending the body in comfort and

giving the chair a visual lightness. Contessa

conceals nothing. The chair’s structure is

completely transparent, clearly expressing its

purpose and use. Contessa makes use of

minimal components, each designed to contrib-

ute to the chair’s visual and functional unity.

Contessa is designed to adjust naturally and

precisely, considering not only the chair’s

functions but addressing how the body is

affected while sitting. The smart operation –

an advanced mechanism that employs levers

conveniently located in the armrests – allows

the user to make adjustments from the seated

position, encouraging more precise adjustment

as the user immediately experiences change

and tests comfort.

The ability to make continuous adjustments

while feeling immediate changes encourages

users to alter their working positions. The

more we change the more we move. The

more we move, the more our bodies are able

to combat the effects of long-term sitting

postures.

Contessa refines the qualities of a mesh chair

Contessa adjustments

LUMBAR HEIGHT & DEPTH

Designed to promote a more

dynamic seated posture and

reduce lower back strain, the

lumbar adjustments facilitate

continuous movement, accurate

positioning and proper support.

After a short period of time our

backs become tight from being

static, a result of the continual

contraction of the lumbar

spine’s extension muscles.

Lack of movement inhibits the

intervertebral disc from feeding

itself. The lumbar adjustments

help combat this state by pro-

moting movement, thus creating

an osmosis effect that will feed

the discs keeping them pumped

up and in a healthier state.

TILT CONTROL

Contessa’s smart operation concept

enables users to effortlessly set the

tilt control at upright, free-float

or locked position at any increment

using a lever located in the left

armrest. Movement while sitting

should be encouraged to prevent

the user’s back from becoming

static. The backrest easily locks

or unlocks from the working pos-

ture, thereby encouraging users to

make adjustments and alter their

position throughout the day.

TILT TENSION

Correct tension keeps the user’s

back in contact with the chair,

giving the spine the critical support

it needs to maintain normal align-

ment. The tilt tension dial has four

settings that allow users to sit and

move naturally with correct support

in any position. Because tension

can be adjusted while seated, users

can accurately sense and select the

proper level of tension.

ARMREST HEIGHT

Ratchet armrests easily adjust

upward up to four inches. The

position of the armrest enables the

user’s elbows to fall naturally down

the body’s midline, eliminating

awkward shoulder angles and mini-

mizing discomfort in the arms,

shoulders or neck.

ARMREST PIVOT

Armrests adjust 20 degrees

inward and 10 degrees out-

ward. The unique design of the

Contessa armrest permits users

to sit close to the worksurface

and keyboard, keeping the arms

close to the body and thereby

limiting stress on the arms and

shoulders.

SEAT HEIGHT

Contessa’s smart operation concept

enables seat height adjustments to be

made from the intended working

posture, using a lever positioned

in the right armrest. Allowing the

user to make, change or correct

adjustments from a natural seated

position helps to ensure proper

seat height.

SEAT DEPTH

Movement is critical to healthy

sitting. Locking the hips in place

does not allow the user’s body to

move. Contessa’s seat pan will keep

the user’s lower body in motion,

allowing their bodies to continuously

regenerate and promote healthful

circulation. Designed to fit 95

percent of users, the seat adjusts

two inches forward and back in

six positions to support the seat

and thighs.

HEADREST

The headrest promotes comfort

when relaxing and concentration

at work by supporting a healthy

position of the head and neck.

Allowing for multiple adjustments

in height, depth and angle of

rotation, the headrest maintains

the spine’s natural “C” curve in

the cervical vertebrae.
