General

Material

String hardware offered in this part of the catalogue are made up of fittings connecting insulators with the towers and conductors under mechanical load.

Clevis-eye connections and ball and socket connections are standardized internationally according to the following Standards:

For ball 24, the arcing devices will be fixed with 2 screws M14 at a distance of 32 mm because of the short circuit currents that may occur. Fastening using two screws is also possible according to Swiss

and Italian Standards.

In order to withstand the static as well as dynamic loads acc. to EN 50341, heat treated steels will be used for the string hardware as follows: - steels for quenching and tempering acc. to DIN EN 10083; - structural steels (nitriding steels) for hinges, links and yokes acc.

to DIN EN 10025; - malleable cast acc. to DIN EN 1562 and spheroidal graphite cast

(ductile iron) acc. to DIN EN 1563 for some socket fittings; - For special cases where high dynamic loads may occur at low

temperatures, fittings made of low-temperature (cryogenic)

steels are available.

- Stainless steels are occasionally used in regions with a corrosive atmosphere, e.g. near the sea.

- Screw bolts according to DIN 48073 - Split pins for screw bolts are made of stainless steel. - Security split pins acc. to IEC 60372- Locking devices for ball and

socket couplings of string insulator units, Dimensions and tests for socket fittings - are also made of stainless steel or optionally made of copper and tin-plated.

- All socket fittings are equipped with security split pins

- All fittings made of steel will be hot dip galvanized acc. to

IEC 61284 or EN ISO 1461 - Overhead lines, Requirements and

tests for fittings - unless they are stainless steel. Connecting

elements will be hot dip galvanized acc. to EN ISO 10684 or ASTM 153 - Fasteners, Hot dip galvanized coating).

For projects with an aggressive atmosphere, the minimum zinc thick-

ness of fittings can be increased from 85 μ to 110 μ or 130 μ Microns.

All fitting assemblies supplied have identification marking acc.

to IEC 61284; this includes manufacturers mark and date code, spe-

cified minimum failure load, and one second short circuit current

withstand rating.

Short circuit protection of the string hardware does not only de-

pend on the corresponding cross sections but also on the surface

quality of the connections, including mechanically loaded bolts.

In general, a current density of 70 A/mm2 can be expected. In this

respect, heating will remain below 400°C at an ambient tempera-

ture of 35°C, which is why there will not be any inadmissible loss of

cohesion of the string hardware. As for ball eyes where arcing devices

can be fixed, the stated value will only be applicable if arcing devices

are actually used. For double eyes twisted with

arcing devices installation situation is important.

If the short circuit currents are very high, it will be

possible to provide for by-passing using a shunt.

For this purpose, the fittings concerned will have

connecting eyes with suitable holes. As for hinged

connections established by using screw bolts, the

short circuit value will not only be determined by

the bolt diameter but also by the mechanical load.

Due to their punctiform coupling, U bolts, shackles and oval eyes

have lower short circuit values and are less suitable for high electric

loads.

The short circuit behaviour of insulator strings will be checked acc.

to IEC 61467- Insulators for overhead lines, Insulator strings and sets

for lines with a nominal voltage greater than 1000 V, AC power arc

tests. In this context, it should be noted that a remaining force needs

to be guaranteed after the power arcs. The values stated in the tables

refer to this standard also. If stainless steels are used, a reduced short circuit resistance needs

to be expected.

Anti rotation protection

In case of multi-link insulator strings with porcelain long rod insula-

tors, rotation of individual insulators can lead to faulty positions of

the arcing devices. In order to prevent this, different ball fittings and

double balls are equipped with anti rotation protection.

Yokes

The yokes, which serve for spacing multiple strings, will be given

their shape depending on the conductor configuration used. This

configuration can consist of a single conductor, twin bundle, triple

bundle, four bundle, six bundle or eight bundle. As for multiple

strings with two-point fastening on the tower,

maximum displacement due to wind will have

to be considered.

If a low vertical load, which is caused by con-

ductor routing, accompanies wind load, the

displacements can reach 60° and more. In

this respect, the fact that the strings will be

displaced less is the result of the calculation of

conductor displacements having already been

taken into account.

Conductor displacement can be slightly re-

stricted by placing counterweights. However, the arcing devices

and yokes will impede each other. Therefore, it will be necessary to

provide the yoke with a recess or to design the arcing device as to

make sure that it will pass the yoke in the displaced state.

Load transposition

According to EN 50341, Overhead electrical lines exceeding

AC 45 kV - Part 1: General requirements - Common specifications, it

is also required to consider a dynamic load as it will, e.g., occur on

multiple strings if one insulator string breaks.

The remaining strings must be capable of controlling the high dyna-

mic longitudinal and transverse forces.

This load transposition occurs as a pulse-like shock process that

implies violent oscillating movements and is, as a rule, excluded after

about 200 ms. As a result of this load transposition, the bending and

tensile stresses will be increased significantly.

This can lead to the failure of the whole insulator string.

This mainly occurs on multiple strings with porcelain long rod

insulators, which are very sensitive to bending loads. The fact that

the broken string knocks into the intact one can cause this string to

be damaged or to break.

Rigid V strings with a small angular position, which can also be used

for lightweight angular towers, need anti rotation protection. For this

purpose, there are double eyes with a straight end for porcelain

long rod insulators.

Hot line work

For work using insulated rods, ball eyes, socket eyes and double eyes

with collars can be used to apply the tools. For this purpose, yokes

are provided with additional holes or are given a shape correspon-

ding to the insulated tools.Ball eye for

As for composite insulators, higher longitudinal tensile forces will

be caused by the flexibility of the glass fibre rods. However, the ben-

ding stress can be neglected.

Cap and pin type insulators are less critical. As they are short and

their connections are so flexible, the bending stresses can remain

small. Uncontrolled impact by the broken string can lead to damage

of the insulator sheds. In general, however, this will not cause the

whole string to break.

Design criteria for insulator strings

Calculations and tests have helped to obtain some important rules

for designing multiple insulator strings especially for porcelain long

rod insulators:

- All the partial strings are to be fixed separately.

- The distance of the insulator strings on their live ends is to be

as small as possible. A slight inclination will help to prevent the

insulator strings from knocking one into the other.

- The yokes should be as high as possible. This is no problem

for tension strings. As for suspension strings, the electrical re-

quirements relating to the minimum distance will have to be

considered.

- If there are several shorter insulators, their bending moments will

be smaller. This will have positive effects. For the reasons above,

this measure can be implemented on tension strings more easily.

There are cases where these measures won’t be sufficient so that

additional precautions will have to be taken:

- Additional masses mounted on the insulator string can be used to

decelerate the load transposition process and thus reduce strains

and stresses acting on the insulator. In most cases, these masses

will be mounted on the yoke. In any case, the effect of these addi-

tional masses should be verified.

- Damping elements

These elements are based on the fact that special displacement

elements, which are displaced plastically at load transposition,

will lead to power dissipation. These elements will be mounted on

the hinged connections of the string, primarily in the yoke hinges.

The patented Mosdorfer Damping Systems (patent Müller) are

a special group enabling highly effective reduction of stresses and

strains that are inadmissibly high, the yoke as a whole being the

displacement element.

- This combination of yokes is stiff enough to act as a stable yoke at

normal operation.

- After one string has broken, the yoke as a whole will be displaced.

- Energy consumption is much higher than that of single displace-

ment elements.

- These systems can be used for all possible string configurations

and conductor combinations.

- The yokes being displaced at a rupture are stable enough to with-

stand wind displacements of up to 45° and more without being

damaged.

Computational simulation of load transposition

For a long time, Mosdorfer has used a computational programme

suitable for double tension and suspension strings, including

V-strings, Y-strings and inverse V-strings for all conductor configu-

rations.

It is also possible to quantitatively analyse the

hinged connections in a string (ball and socket

connections or eye-clevis connections).

Furthermore, so-called trapezoidal double

yokes can be integrated in the computational

programme.

The chronological sequence of string

vibration, including data about the respec-

tive tensile stresses or tensions on the intact

insulators, is calculated.

These values will be used to assess how likely

it is that the insulator string would break.

With 1:1 tests, these essentially cheaper calcu-

lations show a good congruence.

At normal operation, the generation of yokes described here will

establish a stable connection between the insulators. A short time

after the rupture, the rigid-body connection will have disintegrated.

Now the conductors are only connected via the yoke by a compo-

nent that is pliable and strongly expandable and absorbs the shock

in a gentle and resilient manner.

If one string breaks, the yoke will, in the case of suspension

strings, be released from a certain rotation thanks to the technology

of unhinging via side slots. Thus the conductors will only be con-

nected to the intact string by a pliable displacement element.

As for the tension strings, a bolt will move along a slot, one

displacement element being expanded and the other one being

compressed.

After the yoke has largely turned in the direction of the force, the

conductor force will run over the displacement element that is

almost completely expanded.

Provided that the displacement elements are connected in a hinged

manner and are exclusively subjected to tension or pressure, the

characteristic operating curves of the programme can then be the

basis of the analysis.

The ratio between prolongation of elements and displacement force

has a characteristic shape so that it is accessible to mathematical

modelling.

These values will be obtained from static and

dynamic tests. Tests have also been made at

low temperatures.

The following charts show the time dependent

curves for elongation and tensile force and

will then demonstrate the load transposition

process.

Inverse V-string

Rigid V-strings are intended for suspension towers and angle towers

with angles of up to 10°. Due to the damping system based on the

suspension hinges and yoke plates with anti rotation protection,

loads with a high horizontal predominance can also be controlled.

Inverse V-strings are fit for load transposition and can thus be equip-

ped with special rigid connecting elements. These strings can also be di-

mensioned by using the computational programmes of MOSDORFER.

As for further information on the topic variety of yokes that are sui-

table for load transposition, please refer to the respective chapters.

For upgrading lines from, e.g., 220 kV to 380 kV, insulating

crossarms will often be used.

The yokes connecting the tension insulators to the post insulators

will have to be specially adapted and will, in any case, have to be

dimensioned separately.

An example can be found in the relevant part of the catalogue.

Yoke plate with damping straps

for rigid V-strings

Rigid V-strings will be used for suspension towers and angle towers with angles

of up to 10°. Thanks to the damping system based on the yoke plate and the

suspension hinges, loads with a high horizontal predominance can also be

controlled.

Yoke platesfor V-strings, inverse V-strings and Y-strings

V-strings with small angles will, as a rule, be equipped with long rod insulators

and are rigid. Depending on the application, there are many models.

If one string breaks, the yoke will be swivelled to its final

position, the damping tongue being bent over the two bolts.

The damping tongue has been dimensioned so as to make sure

that it will remain in the elastic area at the maximum displace-

ment angle due to wind loads.

The effect of the long frame, which is due to the lower change in length at the

swivelling-in movement, is reinforced by bending the damping tongue. In this

case, no impact of wind displacement is opposed to optimal design.

Here force is introduced in a balanced manner.

As for the trapezoidal yoke, the mobility of the system will also

help to reduce loads in case of rupture of a string.

This arrangement is also suitable for calculation.

Displacement yoke with damping elements

for tension strings for all conductor configurations

The concept of separate conductor suspension, which had

been developed for suspension strings, was implemented in

that the yoke, which only consists of displacement elements,

will be very flexible in case of transposition. Nevertheless,

a safe live connection of the two insulator strings is guaranteed

at normal operation.

At normal operation, the yoke will act as one single rigid yoke that distributes load.

If a string breaks, this yoke will fold open and thus enable thrust displacement of

a displacement yoke with damping elements.

Rotary spacer with damping links

for suspension strings with horizontal twin bundle conductors and for four bundle conductors

The idea behind this is that each of the conductors arranged ho-

rizontally is separately fixed to an insulator. The live connection

of the insulator is provided by the rotary spacers arranged at a

distance of approx. 1m. If one string breaks, the loads will be

transmitted from the intact string extremely gently.

for connecting a triple bundle to a double string

For triple bundles, single fastening of the conductors to 2 insulators is not possible.

The yoke that will fold open in case of load transposition and can also be equipped

with damping elements will enable gentle transmission of the loads.

Unhingeable yoke with slots on the side

for suspension strings

In case of transposition, the whole yoke will be drawn out of the connection,

the conductors remaining connected to the remaining insulator string over the

displacement elements. The slots on the side have been conceived as to make sure

that there cannot be any uncoupling at maximum wind displacement.

Suspension clamps support and connect conductors onto insulator strings.

Information for ground wire suspension clamps, including fibre optic cables (OPGW - optical ground wires) and ADSS (all-dielec-

tric self-supporting) cables can be found in Parts 8 and 18 of the catalogue.

Suspension clamps provide the following:

- A safe mechanical connection in all conditions. This includes all

ruling span stresses at maximum working loads combined with

controlled grip of longitudinal tension that provides protection.

Suspension clamps also provide longitudinal grip control, relea-

sing the conductor at the suspension clamps at defined slip loads

to prevent damage.

- The clamps are designed to protect the conductor at line design

installation loads.

- Suspension clamps incorporate controlled movement for added

conductor protection against wind induced vibration and oscil-

lation.

- High electrical current short circuit loads are transmitted through

arcing devices attached to string hardware protecting the suspen-

sion system. For more details, please refer to Part 3 of the catalo-

gue.

- The outer profile clamp shapes are designeduce electrical dischar-

ge to below maximum specified corona extinction voltages. The-

se values are also influenced by conductor bundle configuration,

and must also be considered.

- All materials used are fully compatible with the conductor appli-

cation. For example, clamps attached to aluminium based con-

ductors are manufactured from high strength corrosion resistant

aluminium alloys.

- Unless otherwise specified, all ferrous components are hot dip-

ped galvanized acc. to EN 61284 or ISO EN 1461; Overhead

lines-requirements and tests for fittings. Where stainless steel fas-

teners are used, ISO EN 3506; Mechanical properties of corro-

sion resistant stainless steel fasteners - Part 1: Bolts, screws and

studs are specified.

- For special cases where big dynamic loads may occur at low



- For lines constructed in higher corrosive atmospheres and

environments, the minimum zinc thickness of fittings can be

increased from 85 μ to 110 μ or 130 μ Microns. - All fitting assemblies supplied have identification marking

according to EN 61284; this includes manufactures mark and

date code, specified minimum mechanical failure load, and

1 second short circuit current withstand rating.

Counter Weights can be specified to restrict displacement angles to

maintain ground earth clearancesand avoid conductor uplift.

There are several attachment options:

- Counterweight devices can be mounted using elongated bolts.

- For vertical twin and quadruple bundles, weights can be moun-

ted onto the connecting straps.

- Counterweights can also be mounted onto conductor bundle

spacers in Jumper Loops. (See also Part 9)

- Counterweight clamp attachments may reduce earth grounding

clearances. If space restrictions apply, counterweights can be

mounted directly onto the conductor.

- Eye-clevis connections are designed acc. to IEC 61471 and

DIN 48074 - Eyes and clevises; connecting dimensions, Bolts acc.

The following catalogue pages provide an overview of the types of suspension clamp most commonly used. For more specialised re-quirements, suspension clamp designs accommodate specific line protection features.

Controlled slip suspension clampsThis type allows controlled axial cable slip forces to be precisely adjusted to allow controlled cable release at specified loads. Axial grip and slip dis-placement is maintained following high imbalanced span loadings e.g; impact or ice shedding loads on adjacent spans.

Suspension clamps for wide-span fieldsFor longer spans, double clamp types can be specified for higher strength and reduced cable bending stresses by reducing cable angle deviation at suspension points. Saddle type suspension clamps, manufactured from high strength corrosion resistant aluminium alloys, are contoured at the cable connec-tion interface to reduce support stresses, and are also recommended for long span high line angle deviation routes. This type can also be offered

as a controlled slip load clamp.Both clamp types have proven reliability and long service life with multiple power network operators.

Suspension clamps for high-tempera-

ture conductorsAs power requirements increase, high-temperature carrying conductors with a capacity of up to 235°C will be more common.

However, the clamps used for these con-ductors must not be affected by high tem-peratures and maintain strength and me-chanical performance.

It is therefore necessary to increase the mass and surface area of clamp designs to reduce thermal stresses. This is preferably accomplished by the use of Armour Rods.

Long-term testing demonstrates the effectiveness of these develop-ments. These tests also prove suitability of different types of high temperature conductor’s e.g. where the steel core has a gap arran-ged loosely inside the conductor (e.g. GAP GZTACSR conductor).

Suspension clamps for bundle conductors, for vertical twin and

quadruple bundles

All types of clamps can be used in multiple string configuartions

with specific bundle spacings. Different types of conterweight can

be adapted for direct or indirect connection to conductors.

Special models of suspension clamps

For changing between different bundle

shapes or for substation feeds, special

designs may be necessary.

Helical Suspension UnitIn the clamping area, the conductor will be surrounded by a neoprene insert of concave shape preventing the conductor from slipping under longitudinal ten-sion. The helically formed rods wound around the neoprene insert are gripped by the main clamping body.There are two basic types available.A forged aluminium main body type, with steel axle pivots screwed and pressed into the body at the conductor centre line, easing installation. The main bodies are hinged and clamped by a conventio-nal bolt, attached by steel straps to the pivots and insulator string.A conventional cast aluminium body type is secured and connected together by a high strength aluminium strap, with a clevis bolt string attachment above the conductor.

Helical wire fittingsHelical wire fittings are made of formed round wire rods, with the ends shaped depending on the material and diameter. The formed diameters of the wires are smaller than the diameter of cable to be applied. This creates uniform radial pre compression of the spiral without permanent distortion of the wires or sub-sets. This applies the initial low stress grip of the cable, which increases as a resultant of higher tension forces that convert to high frictional grip. Uniform radial loads and grip increase over a longer application and contact length that provide low relative and uniform radial stress.

Suspension points have reinforcing rods with larger suspension clamps applied. Special short-suspension clamps or helical suppor-ting units (HSU’s) with integrated armour rods will also be used.

Identification and labelling of products are in accordance with;

IEC 61284 (Rules of behaviour with respect to possible hazards when dealing with electric equipment and equipment employing similar techniques) will either be printed on individual rod sets or stated on a label connected to the set.

The lay direction of the helical rods is normally same as that of the outermost layer of the conductor, typically right hand lay.

The material used is the same as that in the outer layer of the conductor.

The screw type bolts of these clamps have been mounted in line with the conductor axes. This will

help to improve mobility and reduce alternating bending strains caused by vibrations. In order to

minimize abrasion between the eyes and the screw type bolts, these parts are made of steel. HSU’s

(heliformed suspension units) can be used for a conductor angle of up to 30°. Conductor angles

of up to 60° will be possible if two bodies are connected by a suitable yoke plate via a combined

heliformed rod.

Tension clamps connect conductors to tension strings and withstand

the required mechanical holding forces.

A distinction is made between two types of tension clamps, which have

fundamental differences:

- Disconnectable clamps, such as wedge tension clamps, bolted type

tension clamps, helical dead ends and strain thimbles, can all be

adjusted;

- Compression dead end clamps, are permanent connections, and

cannot be adjusted for span, sag, or tension adjustments.

Tension clamps must fulfil the following tasks:

- A mechanical connection that safely withstands tension loads in all

operating cases. This requires a minimum mechanical failing load

force withstand to up 95% of the breaking load of the conductors

according to the relevant specification. For substation applications,

these requirements can be reduced. To reach high tension require-

ments, conductor entry clamp profiles are designed for minimum

conductor stress. Mechanical tension forces in compression dead

end clamp jumper loops are lower.

- The design of the conductor entry profile reduces risk of damage

due to wind induced movement and vibrations.

- High currents caused by short circuit events are transmitted to the

arcing devices through the string hardware. For a more detailed

explanation, please refer to Part 3 of the catalogue.

- Clamps have design profiles that reduce electrical stress and partial

discharges to control corona extinction to above defined values.

Conductor bundle configurations combined with high nominal vol-

tages at tension towers, may require fitment of corona rings.

General

Material - All materials used are fully compatible with the conductor ap-

plication. For example, wedge clamps attached to aluminium

based conductors are manufactured from high strength corrosion

resistant aluminium alloys.

- Eye-clevis connections are designed acc. to IEC 61471 and


to DIN 48073 - Connecting bolts for overhead power lines. Bolt

security split pins are manufactured in stainless steel.Copper tin-

plated types can also be supplied.

Wedge tension clamps

These clamps can be used for overhead lines

and substations.

The clamping effect of the wedge tension clamp

is created by the wedge action converting ten-

sion load into compressive clamping loads.

As tension loads increase, longitudinal wedge

movement inside the housing increases clam-

ping forces and strength.

Special grease lubrication of the wedges reduces

friction increasing mechanical grip.

Clamp selection also depends on the conductor configuration. For

ACSR applications, the designs of the conductor grooves are optimised

to clamp the aluminium outer strands into the steel core providing

good mechanical grip and strength. As for conductors that are heavily

greased, there are special types with reinforced screws. For increasing

radial pressure, these wedge clamps will be provided with a special dry

coating on the sliding surfaces. Furthermore the conductor groove is

appropriately modified. If wedge tension clamps are used, the jumper

loops are usually connected by 2 or 3 parallel groove clamps.

In principle, two types are available:

Wedge tension clamps, are made of two forged bodies connected

by a hinge with corresponding wedges. These can be with or

without jumper connection. The jumper connection is forged with

one of the two wedges. If, however, conductor diameters are bigger,

it can also be connected by means of screws separately.

Stainless Steel connecting screws are supplied as standard A2 quality.

Hot dip galvanized screws can also be specified on request.

Double wedge tension clamps have two bodies made from a high-strength aluminium profile, with wedge designed as previously described. Hot dipped galvanized screws are standard, Stainless steel A2 quality screws can also be supplied. This type of clamp is suitable for smaller conductors only.

Cone type tension clamps

These clamps work in the same way as wedge

tension clamps, but the wedges are cone

shaped. Cones are available with or without

jumper conections. Depending upon the

construction of the conductors or OPGW

it can be necessary to use reinforcing rods.

Cone diameters will be calculated acc. to the

conductor dimensions.

These wedge clamps are used to fix the con-

ductor temporary while the original clamp

will be fixed.

The installation clamps are equipped with

flexible steel straps and a demounting device

and make it possible to unload the endings of

the conductor while fixing the original Com-

pression dead end clamps.

Compression dead end clamps and com-

pression joints

These clamps can be used for overhead lines

and substations, and can achieve the highest

breaking loads using compression connection

techniques.

For ACSR conductors, the internal core is

compressed separately before the electrical

connection sleeve. The clamps and joints are

made using hydraulic compression utilising

regular hexagonal dies, specified, identified

and sized for each conductor joint.

Compression positions are marked on each

joint.

Compression devices are available upon request.

Each compression joint is supplied with a tube

of contact compound grease to ensure a good

mechanical and electrical connection between

cable and connecting interfaces and prevent water ingress in expo-

sed positions. Full jointing and assembly instructions are provided,

that includes greasing application instructions.

Compression dead end clamps and joint tubes have internal coni-

cally tapers at the conductor entry as standard avoiding stress points

by providing gradual compression load application. External tube

end tapers can also be supplied.

The compression lug for the jumper shown is angled at 30° which

determines jumper cable direction. For other applications, vertical

jumper directions are required e.g. substa-

tions. This is accommodated by two 15° an-

gles, one on the dead end connecting flag,

the other on the jumper lug.By connecting the lug at opposite faces, verti-

cal or 30° jumper exit angles are made. Other

jumper exit angles are available upon request.

Hot dipped galvanised connecting screw sets

Jumper loop tensions are accommodated by

continuous weld fabrications, with additional

load withstand and stabilisation possible with

supporting straps.

Compression fittings for high-temperature

carrying conductors

As power requirements increase, high-tempera-

ture carrying conductors with a capacity of up

to 235°C will be more common.

However, the clamps used for these conduc-

tors must not be affected by high tempera-

tures and maintain strength and mechanical

performance.

It is therefore necessary to increase the mass and surface area of clamp

and joint designs to reduce thermal stresses.

Long-term testing at MOSDORFER testing laboratories demonstrates

the effectiveness of these developments. These tests also prove sui-

tability of different types of high temperature conductors e.g. where

the steel core has a gap arranged loosely inside the conductor (e.g.

GAP GZTACSR conductor).

For special projects, where electrical noise reduction is required due

to cable corona discharge risks, larger diameter hollow conductors

can be used that have the same electrical current carrying capacity

and cross section as conventional conductors.

Helical wire fittings

Helical wire fittings are made of formed round wire rods, with the

ends shaped depending on the material and diameter. The formed

diameters of the wires are smaller than the diameter of cable to be

applied. This creates uniform radial pre compression of the spiral

without permanent distortion of the wires or sub-sets. This applies

the initial low stress grip of the cable, which increases as a resultant

of higher tension forces that convert to high frictional grip. Uniform

radial loads and grip increase over a longer application and contact

length that provide low relative and uniform radial stress.

Helical dead ends have multiple formed wires bonded together with

a formed loop for strain thimble attachment. The inside of the helix

of all helical tension fittings have a high friction textured finish to

improve grip. The materials used are fully compatible with the cable

being applied.

Identification and labelling of products are in accordance with

IEC 61284 (Rules of behaviour with respect to possible hazards

when dealing with electric equipment and equipment employing

similar techniques) will either be printed on individual rod sets or

stated on a label connected to the set.

The lay direction of the helical rods is normally same as that of the

outermost layer of the conductor, typically right hand lay.

The material used is the same as that of the conductor.

Compression fittings can be supplied in many variants:

- with a welded cable lug

- with an elongated cable lug as abrasion protection for vertical two bundles - for Aluminium-Steel conductors with only one center wire clamps and joints without steel sleeve can be supplied

Compression dead end clamps and compression joints will be adapted to suit the conductor being used very ac-

curately. For this reason, we have only included the DIN conductors as well as conductors using code names which

are most commonly used.

Compression material for conductors with other material qualities or material types of aluminium can be supplied

upon request.

Clamps with other conection devices and oval eyes can also be supplied upon request.

Compression fittings for ACSR with a big steel core will be delivered with a filler sleeve.

Parallel groove clamps provide electrical connection between

two conductors, and mainly used in jumper loops with wedge

type suspension clamps.

Other applications include branch

connection in substations, and

ground wire eart continuity con-

nections.

Parrallel groove clamps are also

used in security loops of sus-

pension strings, where sufficient

conductor stabilisation force is

required.

For safety reasons, it is recommen-

ded to mount at least two clamps

for one loop.

Special types are required for vibration dam-

ping loops of Brettelle dampers. Clamps for

Bretelle dampers see catalogue part 10.

The grooves of parallel groove clamps made

of aluminium and designed for low electrical

joint resistance and power transmission bet-

ween conductors.

The connection faces have specialised texture

surfaces to establish better electrical and me-

chanical connection.

Forged clamps have smooth outer profiles that

are particularly suited to higher voltage fields

where good corona discharge performance

is required.

Projecting ends of conductors can be pro-

tected using end caps to maintain high per-

formance.

Parallel groove clamps can be also be manufactured from extruded

aluminium alloy, and particularly suited to earth wire applications.

For power connections, this type is suitable for voltages ≤ 132kV.Clamps can also be provided with grooves of different sizes, with

a range of reducing tubes in aluminium and bimetallic material on

request (connecting Copper to Aluminium cable).

Parallel groove clamps with spacers are obtainable for all bundle

configurations.

This is advantageous at using wedge clamps for conductor tensioning.

Arcing devices must fulfil two functions:

- Even distribution of the electrical field along the insulator string,

suppressing partial discharges and corona effects. To achieve

this control, the design, shape, size and positioning are optimi-

sed to shield tension and suspension clamps. For higher levels of

electrical stress control, special corona rings guarantee suppressi-

on within required limits.

- Protecting the insulator from the effects of a power arc

requires that the device must absorb the full effect of the power arc,

acting as a sacrificial component to avoid insulator damage.

The device design takes and controls an instantaneous high energy

power arc flashover, that has sacrificial parts specifically positioned that

may partially burn away to protect the insulator. These events may be

triggered by insulator pollution during overvoltage surges.

Once the arcing device has collected the root of the arc, the fitting

passes energy between the sacrifiacial burning points instantaniuosly.

The position relative to the insulator is important, and must be

large enough to protect the insulator from the extreme high tem-

perature and radiated heat.

To ensure the burn flash over point stabilises the arc to burn one

point, the power must be fed unidirectionally, and allow electro-

magnetic forces to act upon the power arc. Where replacement

of arcing devices become necessary, open rings will allow easy

installation, and create migration to the intended burn point.

Design of the open ring ends must also avoid corona discharge.

The installation arrangement of arcing devices

The installation of arcing devices will always need adaption to

meet performance requirements. The tower support structure

and shape, including the insulator string design affects the

design of the installation. Where the design is correct, power arc

direction will avoid the insulator. Where the power arc direction

close to the conductor is unavoidable, special attention needs to

be made regarding the design of the end fittings. This ensures

that power arc enrgy is directed away from the conductors,

avoiding possible conductor damage.

Short circuit capability

Short circuit capability of arcing devices depends on

the cross section through which the current flows.

As arcing devices are not mechanically loaded, a

power density of 80 A/mm2 is required. This value

guarantees a temperature rise is limited to 490°C, as

accepted by German DIN requirements. Intermedi-

ate arcing rings for long rod insulators can be made

smaller, as the initial power surge will be combined

for short durations.

The materials used for fork type arcing rings can also

be smaller, as the stress is shared by two half pieces.

Standards

Test qualification of corona resistance acc. to

EN 61284 (Overhead lines - Requirements and tests

for fittings) including power arc test requirements acc. to IEC 61467

(Insulators for overhead lines - Insulator strings and sets for lines with

a nominal voltage greater than 1000 V - AC power arc tests) are both

made on complete insulator strings.

The values required for corona

extinction voltage are partly stan-

dardized in national Standards.

be verified. Testing arrangements,

including system calibration, test

current, number and duration of

short circuit currents, are all de-

scribed in IEC 61467.

For 24 mm ball fittings, arcing devices are fixed with 2 screws M14 at

32 mm centres, to withstand short circuit currents that may occur.

Double screw fixing are also possible acc. to Swiss and Italian

Standards (see Part 3 of the catalogue).

Arcing devices of the “racket” type will be fixed to the yokes by using

two screws M 14 at 60 mm centres.

Corona rings are fixed individually depending on possibilities within

the string design.

Closed arcing rings

For compact lines, distances are smaller which can

lead to corona discharge problems.

During short circuit events, nowadays transmission

lines will be switched out rapidly. Therefore the ef-

fects of power arc faults will be limited. This creates

the possibility to use closed rings, and provide incre-

ased corona voltage extinction performance.

Composite insulators normally require a corona ring

on both ends in order to avoid electrical field stress

at the material transition points of the end fittings.

This also helps to prevent occurrence of partial discharges and co-

rona phenomena, which can lead to insulating material degradation

of the composite insulators.

In many cases, it is useful to install an arcing ring in addition to

the corona ring, as corona rings generally do not support arcing

protection requirements.

The corona ring will be connected to the insulator on

the end fitting by a suitable clamping device.

Closed rings are also used as corona rings for

shielding suspension clamps and tension clamps on

case of ultra-high-voltage lines.

The designs of the rings are dependent on the system

voltage and performance requirements, and are ad-

apted to meet specific requirements.

- Unless otherwise specified, all ferrous components

are hot dipped galvanized acc. to EN 61284 or ISO EN 1461; Overhead lines-requirements and tests

for fittings. Where stainless steel fasteners are used,

- For lines constructed in higher corrosive atmo-

spheres and environments, the minimum zinc

Arcing rings for insulated crossarms

Insulated cross arms are used for compact lines, and made up of

many different types of insulating materials, or combinations of

glass, ceramic and composite insulators. The tensile insulators often

consist of two parallel strings combined with one compression load

bearing insulator, where the cross arm is made of porcelain or com-

posite materials. For these applications, specific designs of combined

arcing devises and corona rings are required.

Combinations of arcing rings

For double and triple strings sets, live string distances

should be as small as possible for safety reasons.

Arcing devices should have burn points as far as pos-

sible away from the insulators, where it is sometimes

not practical to utilise two identical arcing devices.

For long rod porcelain insulators, it is also important

to ensure arcing rings cannot cause damage to re-

maining support strings, where load transposition

failure has occurred.

Arcing rings for UHV (ultra-high voltage) and DC (direct current)

lines

For very high voltages and DC lines >500kV, arcing devices listed in

the tables may not be suitable in terms of corona resistance. These

arcing devices utilise tube diameter ≤60mm. For all other parts, larger fittings for very high voltages and mechanical loadings will

be required.

The material used to manufacture the bundle ring guarantees rapid

transmission of short circuit current, with excellent corona behavi-

our. These rings can also be used on composite insulated cross arms,

where they reduce electrical field stress, and act as arcing device

Arcing rings for rigid V-strings

The end of rigid V-strings will be connected to yoke

plates at the live side, with a single arcing device at-

tached. This will act to protect both insulator strings,

and should be designed according to the one-way

principle, of leading the power arc away from the

insulator.

Adjustable arcing devices

In order to protect the equipment of substations, nominal gaps can

be adjusted on the towers close to the substation. This is achieved

by use of adjusting arcing devices that can provide arc gap adjust-

ment. Double insulator strings only require arcing protection devices

attaching to one string.

For longer insulators, for example in polluted environments, arcing

devices are available to offer the correct level of protection for all

insulation creepage length requirements.

Ground wires provide earth protection for overhead power lines

and protecting from lightning strikes.

They grounded system releases

high energy safety, providing mi-

nimum disruption to the power

delivery system.

Earth wires should be mounted at

the highest positions of support

structures to provide highest le-

vels of protection.

Eathwires are mainly steel coated

wires, eg ACS. ACSR conductors

are also commonly used.

At suspension points, oscillating suspension clamps are mostly

used allowing controlled movement, and typically mounted onto

C- brackets providing protection from vibration. This system offers

significant vibration protection advantages over rigid fastening, by

allowing controlled freedom of movement preventing damage.

C–brackets

C-bracket supports offered in the

table provide special type options,

e.g. higher degrees of movement

at the hinge connection, providing

movement >200° for the suspension

clamp.

Full vertical orientation of the clamp

is also possible.

C-bracket mounting base plates can

also be adapted to suit specific tower

mounting plates.

Earthwire suspension and tension brackets

There are many options available, both with

and without earth clamps. If only one con-

ductor is to be clamped, the opposite groove

can be fitted with a filler piece. Bracket at-

tachments are not supplied with screws as

standard. These can be provided separately

once attachment details are confirmed. Dif-

ferent clamp bore sizes and spacing are also

available, complete with corresponding screw

lengths and sizes. Tension brackets can also be

adapted to suit specific applications.

Groundwires tension clamps fittings are

commonly wedge, compression or helical

types, all describled in part 5 and part 18.

To faciliate measurement of the earthing resi-

stance insulating acessories are available for

suspension and tension sets, which must then

be earthed to the support structure by means

of flexible conections.

To ensure low electrical resistance of the earth

grounding system, earth bonding accesso-

ries are used to bond tension and suspension

brackets to the tower structure. A range of

flexible earth bonds are used and available.

Warning Markers

Warning Markers are installed on groundwires to warn low flying

aircraft of the elevated obstacles. These are generally positioned on

routes near airports and elevated spans on the uppermost earthwire

cable. The warning device consists of two hemispheres attached to

the groundwire by two bolted clamps. The Markers are 600 mm

diameter; all other details available on request.

The Warning Markers can be delivered in three different Types of UV

and ozone resistant colours - red, orange and white or alternating -

Reflecting Aircraft Warning Markers ‚AURORA‘

The Aircraft Warning Marker is provided with a reflecting speial foil

that helps to guarantee that its visibility is increased significantly,

especially at dawn and at night. Clamping systems that enable easy

installation guarantee rapid and safe assembly from a cable trolley

as well as from a helicopter.

The Aircraft Warning Marker is designed to withstand the most

severe environmental conditions and is equipped with clamps that

are suitable for all conductor types with elastomere inserts that will

help to protect the conductor. A key feature is the UV resistance of

the plastic body that ensures the colour is maintained for many years.

Overhead line spacers add reliability and protection to the conduc-

tor bundle, by separating conductors preventing clashing under

operating conditions.

To provide this protection, it is necessary to install the correct

number of spacers precisely positioned within each span. The spa-

cing system protects the conductors from high wind and ice loadings

by preventing sub-conductor clashing within the span. Spacers have

controlled flexibility to also with-

stand high short circuit currents

loads in compression and tension,

to protect both conductors and

spacers from damage.

For both single and bundled con-

ductor systems, wind induced

vibration can occur. On bundled

systems, flexible spacers are recom-

mended. Where high level system

protection is required, spacers with

energy absorption capabilities (dam-

ping elements) are recommended =

On tensioned overhead conductors, wind

flow leads to high-frequency vibrations, with

amplitudes in the magnitude of one con-

ductor diameter. This is caused by vortex

shedding, which excites the conductor into

Aeolian vibrations at right angles to the wind

direction. Aeolian vibration occurs at wind

velocities of approximately 1-7m/s causing

vibration frequencies of 5-100 Hz dependent

on conductor diameter and tension.

These vibrations will lead to internal conduc-

tor fatigue stress at suspension and tension

fittings, applying compression and bending

loads at conductor support points.

As vibration increases, higher tensile loads are

applied.

Line routes along flat terrain or spanning valleys require higher le-

vels of protection, particularly where prevailing wind directions are

perpendicular to the line route.

Fatigue stresses will damage the conductor, causing strand breakage

and cable failure. Insulator string ball fittings and turnbuckles are

particularly at risk due to their specific shapes.

For conductor bundle tension and support fitting protection, spacer

dampers offer a level of protection that reduce stresses within the

system to safe operating levels, protecting long term fatigue failures

during the operational life of the network.

As well as higher frequency vibrations, lower frequency sub-conduc-

tor vibrations are also present.

These occur at wind velocities of approx. 4-18

m/s and move conductors towards one ano-

ther at frequencies ≤ 5Hz.

The spacing system also provides protection

against sub-conductor clashing at these lower

frequency-higher amplitude vibrations.

Spacer dampers consist of conductor clamps, a connecting frame

with damping elements.

These elements are manufactured from highly elastic macro- mole-

cular elastomers with high energy absorption properties that damp

harmful vibrations.

These elements also provide the necessary flexibility and stiffness in

all directions of installed conductor movement and motion.

Computational programs

MOSDORFER and DAMP have developed com-

putational programs for all bundle configu-

rations for high-frequency aeolian vibrations

(Karman vibrations) including subconductor

vibrations.

For high-frequency vibrations, maximum ben-

ding stresses at the clamp outlet and fastening

points of spacers will be calculated depending

on the frequency.

The use of Stockbridge dampers can also be

considered and integrated into calculations.

These computations are based on the princi-

ple of energy balance.

According to this principle, energy fed by

wind will be withdrawn from the system by

the self-damping power of the conductors and

damping of the spacer dampers.

The principle of energy balance also forms the

basis for calculating the bundle conductor vi-

brations caused by coupling of the conductor

that is in the wake.

Coupling will lead to instabilities of the so-

called “flutter type”. The dynamic bending

stresses, forces and rotation of the spacer

clamps will be calculated.

The system also calculates bundle separation

of spacers, which avoids higher stress caused

by possible resonance within the span.

Field measurements on existing overhead lines

Existing vibration measurements from existing

lines contain valuable data for making vibra-

tion studies.

MOSDORFER - DAMP are active making field

measurements, which assist with system life

expectancy calculations.

By using these measurements, (each taking

approximately 3 months), combined with

conductor self damping tests in Mosdorfer

own laboratory, our recommendations can

be optimised to offer economic solutions for

system protection.

Spacers are made of very different materials, high-grade cast alumi-nium are preferred for frames and clamps.

Some spacer bodies are also partly forged. For clamps, high-strength screws with or without shear head huts are mostly be used.

Damping element elastomers have high fatigue life, resistant to UV and ozone attack with high energy absorption properties.

High temperature resistant elastomer clamp liners can be specified for conductor temperatures ≤ 235°C.

All products are manufactured in accordance to IEC 61854 - Over-head lines - Requirements and tests for spacers - and special custo-mer requirements. This includes high corona resistant clamps for ultra- high system voltages.

We offer many product variants adapted for specific customer requi-rements. Our standard range only is included within the catalogue. Examples of other types are described in detail below:

Rigid spacers for jumpers for vertical and horizontal twin bundles

Where conductor connections are short, it is not always necessary to use more expensive flexible spacers.

This type is also available for triple and quadruple bundles shown in the Tables. Other designs are also available.

Rigid spacers for jumper loops are often equipped with counter-weights to create tower clearance.

These variants can be used for all bundle configurations.

Flexible spacers for horizontal and vertical twin bundles with bodies made of aluminium (System LORÜNSER)

These spacers are made of moving clamp bo-dies connected by means of a spacing piece.

The clamp bodies are guided over steel bolts and are free to move in one direction.

To provide the optimum bolt connection, the bore in the link is equipped with a stainless sleeve for high durability.

These spacers are made of moving clamp bo-

dies connected by means of a spacing piece.

The clamp bodies are guided over steel bolts

and are free to move in all directions.

Neoprene washers fixed between the body and clamps have some

damping effect preventing noise.

To protect the conductors, neoprene washers are shaped to reduce

connecting stresses during bundle movement.

For big conductors and assemblies using heliformed rods, a double

bolt clamp type is available.

Spacers with neoprene inserts

These spacers are made up of two frames with

electrically semi-conducting neoprene inserts,

linked by a hinge and fixed to the frames.

They have no moving parts avoiding damage

by vibration.

Movements between conductors are absor-

bed by the neoprene inserts.

Alternatively, spacers can be equipped with equipotential bonding.

The types with forged aluminium bodies are available for twin, triple

and quadruple bundles.

The cast version is available for twin bundles.

Due to its shape, this spacer has a corona extinction voltage that is

particularly high.

Tensioning bolts fixed by means of a special tool assist with easy and

quick assembly.

For high-temperature conductor application, a heat resistant silicone

Spacer dampers

The spacer dampers described in the tables

are a selection of types most commonly used,

where the system of fastening to the conduc-

tor can be varied e.g. clamps fixed by using

heliformed rods with neoprene clamp liners

to offer added conductor protection.

As previously described, non-damping

spacers, and spacer dampers include models

with hinge type clamps and tensioning bolts.

Both types have excellent corona behaviour.

For Wildlife protection, Bird Flight Diverters can also be fitted.

The idea behind this is that each of the con-

ductors arranged horizontally is separately

fixed to an insulator. The live connection of

the insulator is provided by the rotary spacers

arranged at a distance of approx. 1 m. If one

string breaks, the loads will be transmitted

from the intact string extremely gently.

Stockbridge dampers

Since construction of the first overhead lines,

there have been problems with vibrations.

Very soon, the Stockbridge Vibration Damper

(named after its inventor) proved to be a most

effective type of damper. These dampers are a

combined energy absorbing resonance type,

that damp all frequencies that occur as part of an

energy balanced system. MOSDORFER dampers

work particularly well, where the wind energy

will be partly absorbed by the conductor, and the remaining majority

absorbed by the damper.

This method of system damping is only effective if the conductor and

damper are harmonized.

This requires that damper weights and messenger cable lengths are

compatible with the conductor.

This design harmonization makes it possible to offer dampers with 2 or

4 resonance frequencies, which do not overload the conductor at the

clamp interface, or over stress the messenger cable.

Vibration studies

For an energy balanced system, it is there-

fore necessary to ensure that the dampers are

“tuned” and compatible with the conductor

system.

A vibration study considers line route terrain,

climatic conditions, conductor data (Conductor

Data Sheet) line tension, configuration, span

lengths, system voltage, and self-damping

characteristics of the conductor if known. Data

from existing lines, suspension and tension arrangements are also

required when available.

This data enables MOSDORFER to make vibration studies, choose

the most suitable damper type, and recommend both quantities and

positioning within the span to protect the system.

Field measurements on existing overhead lines

Existing vibration measurements from existing lines valuable data for

making vibration studies.

MOSDORFER-DAMP are active making field measurements, which

assist with system life expectancy calculations.

By using these measurements, (each taking approximately 3 months)

combined with conductor self damping tests in MOSDORFER‘s own

mic solutions for system protection.

Types of dampers

Standard Stockbridge damper types have open weights cast onto

the messenger cable. Conductor clamps are manufactured in alu-

minium, either forged or cast. Messenger wires are manufactured

from high tensile hot dip galvanized steel or stainless steel wires,

constructed to incorporate good energy dissipation and damping

properties. Screws and nuts for cast clamps are hot dip galvanized.

Forged clamps use stainless steel screws.

For copper conductor compatibility and

applications, forged copper alloy clamps or

bimetallic (copper-aluminium) conductor

clamp grove sleeves are available.

For larger non-standard conductors, special

clamps are also available.

Messenger damper wire

For highly corrosive atmospheres and regions,

stainless steel material may be necessary.

For additional corrosive protection of all

messenger cable types, sealed elastomer

sleeves are also available.

Dampers for fibre optic cables

These dampers are generally lighter weight types with bigger clamps

as they are mounted on heliformed rods. These are described in

detail in Part 18 of the catalogue, including Spiral dampers.

Break away huts

For correct tightening of the screws break away huts can also be

supplied.

Testing and inspection of the dampers

Vibration dampers, both dynamic performance and physical

properties are developed, tested and checked in accordance with

EN 61897 - Overhead lines - Requirements and tests for Stockbridge

type Aeolian vibration dampers. High Voltage Corona and partial

discharge testing is made in accordance with EN 61284 - Over-

head lines - Requirements and tests for fittings. Ferrous component

galvanization and tests are made in accordance with ISO EN 1461

Hot dip galvanized coating on fabricated iron and steel articles -

Specifications and test methods. Stainless steel components conform

to - ISO EN 3506 - Mechanical properties of corrosion-resistant

stainless steel fasteners.

all types. These have superior high voltage

corona properties; particularly suitable for

vertical twin bundles.

These clamps are specially intended for the installation of conduc-

tor loops. These loops primarily have a damping function but they

will also help to prevent con-

ductor rupture. The clamping

grooves are designed to achieve

a high slipping load. The con-

ductor channel of the Bretelle

conductor is grooved whereas

the channel for the conductor

is serrated in order to make it

possible to protect the conduc-

tor without affecting the clamp

function.

Two types are available:

Open tpye: with a continuous channel for the conductor (multiple

loops).

Closed type: the closed end guarantees optimal corona protection.

An internal recess serves to take up the binding clamp.

Earthwires provide earth protection for overhead power lines,

protecting from lightning strikes. The grounded system releases high

energy safely, providing minimum

disruption to the power delivery

system.

Earth wires should be mounted at

the highest positions of support

structures, providing the highest

levels of protection.

OPGW (optical groundwires)

provide, in addition to system

protection, high capacity data

transfer through internal optical

fibres.

The glass f ibres, which are

protected inside concentric or

eccentric plastic, aluminium or stainless steel tubes, are sensitive

to bending and compression loads. The most reliable method of

mechanical connection to the OPGW uses hand applied helical rod

type fittings.

Two other types of optical fibre data transfer cables use these types

of connecting fittings. OPPC’s (optical phase conductors) and ADSS

(all-dielectric self- supporting) fibre optic cables. OPPC conductors

are constructed similar to OPGW, however, optical fibre tubes

require disconnection from power voltages at splicing joint boxes.

ADSS cables are mostly installed and operated at a similar physical

elevation to the phase wire, and generally installed on systems

voltages ≤ 110kV.The following examples show some typical applications. However,

fittings also are available to all the other options.

High load withstand long span suspensions and tensioning systems for ground wires e.g.

fjord or river crossings:

Vibration protection

Optical fibre cables are sensitive to pressure and vibrations, requiring special design consideration

in all applications.

To protect the cables from radial clamping forces, any compressive loads applied directly to the

cable must be controlled.

Application of a protective layer of hand applied helically formed rods protects the cable and

internal fibres, reducing the effect of compressive loads applied by clamps and tension fittings.

Vibration damper clamps must be applied over helical rod sets at the correct installation torque.

For vibration control, Stockbridge dampers are normally used.

When considering the damping protection, MOSDORFER’s computational programs also consider

the influence of the helical fittings. At tension points, provision for two vibration dampers to be

applied safely are normally required.

Stockbridge dampers will also be used where

warning spheres are mounted on longer pro-

tective rod sets. If a second damper is neces-

sary it will also be applied to the rods with ap-

plied lengths and damper positions determine

by vibration studies.

Warning sphere

Warning spheres

Warning Spheres are installed on groundwires to warn low flying

aircraft of the elevated obstacles.

These are generally positioned on routes near airports and elevated

spans on the uppermost earthwire cable.

The warning device consists of two hemispheres attached to the

groundwire by two bolted clamps.

The Spheres are 600 mm diameter; all other details available on

request.

The Warning spheres can be delivered in three different Types of UV

and Ozone resistant colours – red, orange and white or alternating

- white/orange or white/red.

Spiral dampers

For smaller diameter and ADSS cables, spiral dampers are available.

These dampers are one piece weather and abrasion resistant plastic.

The helical design enables easy and reliable mounting, with the

smaller spiral attached to the cable.

Damping is achieved by differential movement of the helical rod

versus the cable.

Cone type tension clamps

Alternatively it is possible to use cone type

clamps to tension the OPGW cables.

These clamps work in the same way as wedge

tension clamps, but the wedges are cone

shaped. Cones are available with or without

jumper conections. Depending upon the

construction of the conductors or OPGW it

can be necessary to use reinforcing rods.

Cone diameters will be calculated acc. to the

conductor dimensions.

C–brackets

C-bracket supports offered in the table provide special type op-

tions, e.g. higher degrees of movement at the hinge connection,

providing movement >200° for the suspension clamp.

Full vertical orientation of the clamp is also possible. C-bracket

mounting base plates can also be adapted to suit specific tower

mounting plates.

A type with a central plate is also available.

For making it easier to measure earth resi-

stance, there is an insulating set.

This set can also be used for suspension and

tension brackets.

Then these brackets will be earthed on the

tower by means of flexible connections.

Earthwire suspension and tension brackets

There are many options available, both with

and without earth clamps. If only one conduc-

tor is to be clamped, the opposite groove can

be fitted with a filler piece.

Bracket attachments are not supplied with

screws as standard. These can be provided

separately once attachment details are confir-

med. Different clamp bore sizes and spacing

are also available, complete with corresponding screw lengths and

sizes.

Tension brackets can also be adapted to suit specific applications.

Suspension brackets for clamps with forged trunnion’s are available

as a split clamp bolted type fitting.

Helical dead ends have multiple formed wires bonded together with

Helical rods are also used to restore and repair cable damage. The

types of fittings required is dependent on the cable and type of da-

mage e.g. line guards, armour rods, repair sleeves, splices etc.


IEC 61284 (Rules of behaviour with respect to possible hazards

when dealing with electric equipment and equipment employing

similar techniques) will either be printed on individual rod sets or

stated on a label connected to the set.

Down lead clamps will be used to �x the �bre optic cable to be led off on the corner leg of the

tower. When doing so, it will be particularly important to adapt the groove to the diameter of

the OPGW-earthwire. There are many special models. Some examples:

The clamps will be mounted while offsetting them by different angles, which range up to 90°. For

this purpose, the clamps will be provided with a replaceable clamping bolt, which can optionally

also be installed with an offset of 90°.

Fastening with other screwing systems or stainless screws as well as ribbons also is possible.

Clamps serving for fastening on towers made of wood or concrete also are obtainable.

Clamps with insulating sleeves that will, in connection with an insulating set for the earthwire

tension brackets, make it easier to measure the earthing resistance can be purchased upon request.

Clamps with one-sided �lling pieces are obtainable upon request.
