SUMMARY
A two-hole diamond drill program totalling 231.5m (BQ) was completed from the ice on Saddle Lake between March 25 - April 14, 1992. The program was designed to test a strong, crosscutting N-S trending, Mag high/HLEM target defined by earlier geophysical surveys (Gingerich, 1992), for the presence of significant base metal mineralization.
Both diamond drill holes intersected altered felsic fragmentals with extensive stringer pyrrhotite- pyrite and trace chalcopyrite mineralization. The results of the drilling have confirmed a favourable environment for VMS deposits.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Saddle Lake property is located 100 km west of Pickle Lake and consists of 6 claim blocks totalling 53 units held 100*ft by Noranda Exploration. Previous reconnaissance work conducted by Noranda (MacDougall, 1991) recognized favourable alteration, geology and mineralization indicative of a favourable environment for base metal volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization.
A list of Noranda personnel and contractors who worked on the Saddle Lake property is given in Appendix l. A Statement of Qualifications is given Appendix li.

4.0 PREVIOUS EXPLORATION WORK
The following is a brief summary of exploration work on the Saddle Lake Property:
1969-70: Kennco Explorations/Mextor Minerals carried out ground Mag and Em surveys and drilled five diamond drill holes totalling 1884; (575m) on conductive targets. Disseminated to semi-massive sulphides were reported from all the holes.
1970: Castle Bar completed 3 DDH, several kms to the south of Saddle Lake.
1973: Card Lake Copper Mines held the property and filed prospectus notes and correspondents.
1977: Cominco completed a Questor regional airborne geophysical survey for which only the magnetics has been filed.
1985: Utah Mines completed and filed a Dighem regional Mag-EM airborne geophysical survey.
Much of the previous regional work has concentrated south of Saddle Lake in the Lang Lake area focusing along strike of the low grade Lang Lake-Bochawna Copper Deposit and the local iron formations.
5.0 GEOLOGY
The property occurs in the Uchi-subprovince of the Canadian Shield and is underlain by a mixed sequence of Archean-aged metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Lang Lake Greenstone Belt. These rocks have been intruded by granodiorite intrusives and related feldspar porphyry dykes and sills.
The regionally extensive Bear Head Fault transects the area along a prominent NW-SE trend several kilometers to the south of the property.
The Saddle Lake Property is largely underlain by pillowed basalt flows with intermixed quartz- crystal tuffs, rhyolite flows and chert-exhalite horizons. A 300-400m wide felsic volcanic sequence consisting of strongly chloritized blue quartz-eye porphyritic rhyolite flows and related coarse volcanic fragmentals outcrops along the northwest edge of Saddle Lake and extends WNWfor - 1 km. This unit remains open along strike to the NW and to the east under the Saddle Lake.
Variable alteration mineral assemblages have been observed within the volcanic rocks, and include chlorite-garnet-actinolite, silicification and local sericitization.
6.0 MINERALIZATION AND ALTERATION
A property exam conducted by Noranda in 1991 (MacDougall, 1991) recognized favourable alteration, mineralization and geology indicative of a favourable environment for volcanogenic massive sulphide mineralization. Several historical mineral occurrences were examined and are briefly described below.
The Saddle Lake Occurrence is located 200m north of Saddle Lake and is exposed in 3 trenches and pits over a strike length of * 100m. The zone trends NW-SE, and is 7-1 Om wide. Mineralization consists of disseminated to stringer pyrite-pyrrhotite with local concentrations of stringer sphalerite- galena and minor chalcopyrite. Assays returned up to Q.08% Cu, S.55% Pb, t.29% Zn and 3.68 opt Ag from grab samples. Chip samples returned 0.01 "fc Cu, Q.219% Pb, T.55% Zn and 0.21 opt Ag over 4.0m. The zone is hosted in a strongly chloritized, locally silicified and sericitized volcanic fragmental interbedded with pillowed basalts and thin felsic tuff horizons. Preliminary whole rock analysis indicate Na-depletion in the mineralized zone consistent with a volcanogenic hydrothermal system.
Approximately 600m west of the Saddle Lake Occurrence, is a mineralized zone consisting of banded semi-massive to stringer pyrrhotite-pyrite with trace chalcopyrite. The zone is exposed for a 4.0m width in a small pit and would appear to flank the above mentioned felsic volcanic sequence. Alteration consists of intense chlorite-garnet mineral assemblages with local areas of silicification and sericite. Assays returned elevated values for Cu and Zn. Whole rock analysis indicated Na-depletion from the adjacent felsic volcanics and the mineralized zone.
The Castle Bar #3 Occurrence is located approximately 2.5 km SW of Saddle Lake and was discovered by diamond drilling. The occurrence consists of narrow bands of massive pyrrhotite-pyrite associated with altered rhyolites. Historical assays from the DDH logs returned anomalous Cu-Zn values over 50m with local intervals up to G.05% Cu, G.95% Zn76.6m. The occurrence has only been evaluated with one shallow hole.
7.0 DIAMOND DRILL PROGRAM (Figures 3-8)
A two-hole diamond drill program totalling 231.5m (BO) was completed between March 25 - April 14, 1992. The drilling was carried out by Midwest Drilling of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The program was designed to test a strong, crosscutting N-S trending, Mag high/HLEM conductive trend defined by earlier Norex geophysical surveys (Gingerich, 1992) for the presence of significant base metal mineralization (Figure 3-5).
Mineralized core was assayed for Cu, Zn, Ag, Co, Ni and Au at Accurassay Laboratories of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Assays for Au were completed using fire assay preconcentration with Atomic Absorption finish. All other analyses involved Atomic Absorption following acid digestion.
A summary of the drill program is provided in Table II. A diamond drill hole location plan and drill hole sections are given in Figures 6-8 (attached). Diamond drill hole logs and assay certificates are given in Appendix III.

SL-92-1
Hole SL-92-1 was drilled to a depth of 94.5m and tested the centre of the geophysical target at O -f 60S. The hole intersected > 20m of altered volcanics exhibiting chlorite-garnet-actinolite alteration and hosting TO-25% magnetite, pyrrhotite, pyrite and trace chalcopyrite mineralization. The centre of the alteration zone was cored by a 4.4m recrystallized quartz vein carrying similar mineralization. No significant assays were returned.
Hole SL-92-2 was drilled to a depth of 137.0m and tested the geophysical target 50m south of hole SL-92-1, where the anomaly appeared wider and exhibited stronger conductivity. The hole intersected ^Om of intermediate to felsic volcanic fragmentals carrying ID-15% to locally massive pyrrhotite-pyrite mineralization, with trace chalcopyrite-sphalerite. Although no significant assays were returned, the values were locally anomalous with respect to Cu, Zn, Ag and Au.
8.0 LITHOGEOCHEMISTRY
A total of 21 core samples were collected for whole rock lithogeochemical analysis. Samples were collected at approximately 10m intervals and sent to TSL Laboratories of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Analysis involved ICP-MS whole rock analysis using a lithium metaborate fusion technique and included the ten major oxides, LOI and the elements Ba, Sr, Zr, Y and Se. Certificates of analysis are given in Appendix IV.
Results from SL-92-1 show a pronounced Na-depletion, Ca-enrichment associated with the observed alteration zone suggesting a calc-silicate alteration mineral assemblage.
Results from SL-92-2 show a similar calc-silicate signature above the mineralized felsic volcanic fragmental. The mineralized volcanic fragmentals exhibit Na-depletion and moderate Mg-enrichment over a 40m width, consistent with a VMS hydrothermal alteration system.
9.0 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The results of the drill program have confirmed favourable geology, alteration and mineralization associated with a N-S trending, crosscutting geophysical anomaly, consistent with a VMS mineralizing environment.
Ground geophysics (Gingerich, 1992) have outlined a number of other conductive targets which merit ground follow-up.
A summer program involving geological mapping, prospecting and lithogeochemistry is recommended to screen the conductive targets so as to define potential drill targets.
